Finally? This playstyle was not an option on any team he played for previously. Russ has always had the highest or second highest offensive load on the team which inherently limits you defensively. As a scorer he’s always been inefficient yet he’s also always been one of the best of all time at getting to the basket which creates opportunities for open teammates. On the lakers his open teammates were old and couldn’t shoot. Now he’s got guys that can push pace in transition and make an open jumpshot. This clippers team is far and away the best situation Russ has ever been a part of.

We go through this with a lot of stars. They aren’t the players they once were, then have a hard time adjusting. Then they struggle for a couple years until they learn how to be a role player. Then they either fall off or enter a sort of second prime and figure it out. One example recently is Melo. Klay is going through the transition right now for another example. It shocked me how many people gave up on Russ with his attitude and work ethic but it’s clear he’s figured out how to be a role player and a great one at that
@Cynsham11 ай бұрын
I think this current situation suits him better than any other team he's been on. He doesn't have to be the 1st scoring option every game, so he can focus his energy coming off the bench to bring some much needed pace to the offense and hustle for rebounds.

The fact that Rus comes off the bench only proves how idiotically stacked the Clippers are. But for real, using him as a 6 man is highly tactical. Regarding Russ, I appreciate players who make major contributions in both ends of the floor. I think it's fair to say that he has been elite on both ends. That is AMAZING at 35 years old, and to be fair, at any age; This is the NBA, and he's dominating it on both ends. His mental is sharp and you can see that he uses logic well on the spot both when defending and when attacking. Awesome video. This is one of his most efficient seasons ever, arguably his most disruptive season defensively and people still make up things to complain about. Have no clue what offensive ratings are when he’s on the floor, how the Clippers actually turn the ball over more when he’s off the floor, taking full advantage of what the defense gives him, etc. it becomes tiring trying to educate folks.

I am a diehard Clipper fan and like all the players on the team. I have always liked Westbrook, going back to his early days when he started playing with OKC. His downhill and push the pace type of basketball is something I love to watch. I'd like to see him finish off his career with the Clippers regardless if they win a championship or not. But of course I am hoping they can get to the Finals and win it all! Even if they just win one championship with this squad I would be happy. As someone who has never been a fan of Westbrook throughout his career I’m really impressed with his ability to accept a lesser role and thrive in it. He’s completely bought into helping his team. He never use to play off ball, didn’t play much defense and IMO most of his career he cared a ton about getting his stats. This new version of him is exactly how you extend your career. He’s giving the clippers exactly what they need, is fine coming off the bench and should win 6th man of the year. I never thought he would be willing to adjust to being a bench player but he’s definitely proven me wrong. Hope he continues to thrive in this role and am def a fan of this version of his play style
