A look ahead to the AI that will feature in Gran Turismo 7. I have reason to believe that the AI at launch won't be too different from what we've seen in previous GT games, namely Gran Turismo Sport. However, the recent announcement on Gran Turismo Sophy makes the future incredibly impelling indeed.

Slight editing mistake at 12:59. Main thing that you couldn't see was the AI cars driving slightly slower than expected on the straights and the controlled car going past very easily. Either way, interesting developments with the Sophy system. I hope it can be developed quickly so we can see it introduced into GT7 quickly.

I guess that this is ultimately what they will try to achieve. The first step is just to see if it can actually be quick - which it can. Next job is to make it work at a bigger range of ability levels so more of us can have a good race against it.

Could draw some interesting conclusions between this and Chess AI. Nowadays in Chess, humans know that they stand no chance against the top computers, but instead we use them to refine strategies and explore moves that might not be readily apparent to the human mind. Maybe we will see something similar in GT7, using the capabilities of the AI to refine braking points or lines.

There’s an incredibly interesting documentary on this subject but with the chinese game Go. It has more permutations than there are atoms in the entire universe, so it was a massive challenge for AI to learn the game and compete with pros. Eventually one got developed that beat the 18 time world champ so badly and publicly. The champ won 1 game ever against the computer before he finally just decided to retire. The game he won the computer pushed him so hard he made an unprecedented move the game had never seen before, its known in the Go community as the “god move” because it was so profound. AI definitely can improve human competition, but i agree i feel any competitive setting should be between two humans or two computers

Bad thing about that is competitive players will then all adopt the same racing lines in all their quirkyness... I fear it might format competitive play in a bad way. I'd love to see a human come up with a quirky line, but if it's brute-forced from a computer through hours of training, it removes one major aspect from the competitive experience IMHO.

@@TheChannel1978 I think that's my point. I'm sure that we could design robot cars that can beat out human drivers every time. The challenge is designing an AI that plays well within the confines of a human competition. The computer might be able to control oversteer/understeer driving over grass while extending a corner; no human is ever going to be able to do that, and it doesn't make sense to have a game AI that is that cheap. Indeed. This just highlights a bigger problem which is the fact that dodgy track limits exist in the GT series. I've noticed it in GT sport a lot, turning your car into a lawn mower is fastest around plenty of corners, that's why I could never get into competitive GT racing. Even iRacing has huge problems so imo the perfect sim is GT with improved realism and engine sounds. By in large yes, Sophy AI is a learning AI but l think it does 99.5% of it's learning is cloud based learning (racing against itself) and therefore has a collection of preprogrammed options it can look up to anticipate human driver actions and predict what they will do. It also has the ability to "Fake" moves forcing the car in front to react then it switch back to get a pass done. The AI has shown it can handle the car better than humans with greater precision & repeat ability but can be forced into mistakes. tbh it's very very easy to make perfect driving AI, what is actually hard is to make it drive realistic. AI drivers in most games even sim racers are not even obeying game physics, not mentioning real life, because you must take into account such things like latency, gear used, physical strength, ability for focusing basically all boundaries of human mind and body are in play here... AI doesn't have it, AI can simulate thousands laps in hours.

'very very easy' what???? I think you have it the other way around. Making the AI drive realistically comes first, because it has to adhere to the world physics set by the game. That was the thing about AI, in any racing game really. Was that it is extremely predictable, and will aggressively stick to one line. So you can set up cutbacks or push around the outside, which more makes the race feel like the AI drivers are obstacles, rather than opponents that you're racing against.

12:03 i think what happens in these instances is the AI trying to remain in a lane. While the bend is flat out, the AI is preparing to hold the right lane because the spectator car is near it's back quarter. It might not have to break even to do that but it's trying to remain on the inside of the corner when it should really take it flat and extend in the outside.

AI in GT sports was awful and is hidden behind the start on the move ( don't know how to name it properly), you have to make your way through the peletone which is usually dumb and slow UNTIL P2-P3 which by that time have significant gap to the rest of the group. The whole race is about fight with those 2 cars which suddenly start racing at good pace... This is my vision, as I always play single player since GT1. Starts from the move for me is most irritating thing in GT sports which I hope will be removed in GT7.

One thing I would wish for is that the AI are not allowed to just have 100% control over the car input. In real life, to a human, it takes time to turn the wheel from all the way left to middle to right. The AI seem to just set the direction in a split second, which, if humans could do that, it would make saving slides a lot easier in a lot of the cases, even if we didn't have the exact skill and knowledge about what exact angle the wheel needs to be. In fact, a lot of the time its the feedback of the car that dictates our actions as drivers. The AI ignores the feedback, it just does the math on its own and precedes the car's reaction and its own reaction to that reaction with a calculated action. That's not really ok. Also, as much as I appreciate the aggression, I would rather it didn't do E rated lobby moves where it doesn't know what it wants to do so it ends up ramming into the back of you by accident.
@vsm1456
@vsm1456 2 жыл бұрын
Steering speed is not what makes it hard to catch slides, it's poor reaction time. You need to realise it early then quickly do the right thing, this all takes time. Perfectly fast AI wouldn't need impossible control speeds because cars don't react impossibly fast. Unless we're talking about collisions.

It seems like the main theme with the AI is hesitation, apparently from a design to avoid contact at all costs. In the videos, it looks like the AI that prematurely brake the most, or in the worst spots are the ones that are behind other vehicles, or in awkward spots around them before a turn, and are calculating how to proceed without causing contact. Sophie on the other hand gave not a single damn, that bot just yeets itself around other players in any way it knows won’t cause a penalty, even if it means making contact.
