the final battle in Okami showed that Amatarasu and Shiranui are, indeed, the same wolf. Shiranui's appearance is essentially what Amatarasu at peak power looks like. The reason she looks the way she does throughout most of the game is because she's diminished, not as strong as she once was. The Stone wolf form was her in a recovery state, healing sorta like how Link in Breath of the wild had to lay in that healing chamber for 100 years only to wake up weakened and lacking in memory. A similar thing could be said of Amatarasu and Shiranui.

I recommend checking out okami-den it was the sequel/spin off on the ds it sets up where the new sequel is likely to go with how it ends

Please do, Okamiden is a fun game and has a lot of characters old and new that I can’t help but wonder if they show up in the sequel.

Blockhead and the digging mini games early game are pretty ok but once you encounter them late game it gets insanely annoying 😭 so I feel you there

I want Oki back. He was my favorite character and i dug how vergil like he is with his icicle attack and ice dopplegangers. Side note: he and the Oina tribe as a whole were absent in okamiden and i was hopping to see Chibi maybe chasing around his potential teacher/father like figure he'd see as while Oki wouldn't be having any of it like a gag of sorts. sometimes the jokes write themselves.

Oki is one of my fav characters too and I feel like we didn't see him much after he had his revelation in the first game so I'm just super excited and hopeful we see more of him and his story explored!

actually I have an idea for the potential main villain…so apparently in Japanese Mythology Amaterasu and Susanoo both also had another Brother named “Tsukuyomi” who was the God of Moon and night, his despite him and Ammy orginally being *Really Close* won’t go to in-depth but let’s just say *Sweet home Alabama or Japan in this case* they ended up splitting up and become bitter rivals it’s interesting lore, also contrast with Amaterasu being a White Wolf maybe Tsukuyomi could be a Black Leopard/Panther since a Black Panther is basically a living shadow, And it also fits this classic trope of dog vs cat! Plus being a leopard that sticks to the shadows while we don’t initially see him at first, he is hinted at very early on and Ammy doesn’t recognize him at first story she slowly, but surely starts to remember him and he grows more bitter and evil. Also leopards are kind of on the same boat as Tigers in while they are not native to Japan, they are featured in lots of mythology, Literature and art.

Ooo yes! I think that is a really good idea! I do remember reading about all of Ammy's siblings while researching Okami in general and I think that's a really good pick and would work in a similar way to the Susano being the villian but with a new character and it could play into the dog vs. Cat which I love ! Hopefully they do something like that! I'm all for this idea!

thank you I also wish to base him off of Classic Disney Villains… as in Tsukuyomi just a character and a villain that we would absolutely love to “Loath, hate and Despise” and with the series having a “E10+ to T Rating you can do a lot more with that a lot more dark things in that aspect” which makes his defeat/Death all the more satisfying, a Cruel and vile Panther Villain who is constantly living in the shadows of is more popular and more successful and kinder “older sister” “also since he would be a godly black leopard would he have markings that would resemble spots and Rosettes”?! Also in terms of returning characters I think there’s one more important character you forgot to mention “Sakuya” even if we don’t see everyone returning I have a feeling one way or another We’re gonna see her again. Who knows maybe she has more guardian Saplings across this new world hey maybe if she returns she could play a bigger role this time but still not take away from Ammy and Issun.

Just started the game again in my switch. Bringing back so many memories. One thing i never forgot is how many times you think the game is about to end...

From the sequel's trailer, I'm hoping they combine both the realistic and brushwork styles, because it looked so good in there!

@@RF-Ataraxia I do think we are going to get a more detailed approach to the brush work style! The trailer made it seem very detailed but still painterly and I hope it looks like that!

One thing I really hope they take out is all the changes from normal to side-scrolling navigation and the digging mini-games and that spinny disk tower platforming that went with it.

@Photo_CB the digging mini games were fine the first like 1 or 2 times but then they get insanely complicated and pointless 😭 I feel like they could have made much better mini games if needed, and the platforming I hope is polished because some of it was also very jank

the only stuff I would want to see in the past touched upon is why and how Shiranui and Ishaku went forward in time to help Amaterasu and Oki against Lekchu and Nekchu. Aside from Kaguya, it's one of the only plot points that's left completely unexplained. We don't know what motivated them to do so, and while I assume Ishaku used his sword to open the Spirit Gate to go forward in time the same way Issun did to go backwards, the way him and Shiranui go back is just by slicing a rip through space and time in front of them and then walking through it.

That is a fair point it is something completely unanswered as they kind of just show up and then disappear into a rip in time, I do hope that the new game still plays with time travel because it could open a lot of doors for alternate time lines and stories, and like you said hopefully some answers to that bit!

One thing about Ammy: Shiranui IS AMMY/AMATERASU, only the people of Kamiki Village called her Shiranui but in reality Shiranui IS Ammy herself; the proof of this is when Ammy went to Issun's village and talked to the chief, who was in fact the first celestial envoy during Ammy visit before her death and that village chief called wolfy here Ammy and NOT Shiranui.
