Everyone one was hypeing the books so up. I started to listen to it as audiobooks and the first half of a frist book was " Ok" but then slowly it got much better and i was hooked at book 2 half way in. Such a great Univers.

@@fatjay9402 It will probably happen, but probably not soon. Game of Thrones was published in 1996, it got an HBO show in 2011.

The set up is crazy for the next book. DQ was thought-provoking and answered questions we have had all series. The books are better on reread, especially after the first book.

I finished book 1 last month. And loved it. The monologue didn’t bother me. Maybe I’m just used to that or like it due to reading the vampire chronicles by Anne rice. Lestat talks about himself to himself…. A lot lol.

Great review! DQ is my favorite of the series. The key to sticking the landing for book seven is going to be the relationships and how his final decision affects Hadrian. With the religious overtones I am expecting the story of Isaac with a very different ending.

DQ was a heavy one but had some of the best quotes in the whole series and will stay with me for the rest of my life. DQ is just another stone confirming that it’s the best sci fi series of all time.

I read fantasy, and my favorite series is First Law by Joe Abercrombie. I have almost never gotten into sci-fi outside of reading Dune, but after hearing the hype surrounding this series, I had to give it a shot. I just finished Howling Dark, and I have not been disappointed at all. I look forward to getting caught up!

My belief is that version of him on the throne is still going to happen. I believe his exile, is another easy path chosen. Like with Jad. Remember it was hinted at, with the death of Val, and even brethren said again. That there are nexus events that have to happen, regardless of what he does. He couldn’t change Val dying, seeing brethren again, being tortured, seeing himself young again which he didn’t understand at the time. And seeing himself on the thrown, with Selene at his feet. He sees that all the time. The adjudicator told him to choose the hard paths. To me the hardest path will be him being emperor when he’s doesn’t want to be, and loving again, even though he will feel guilty. I won’t be surprised if there is a coup against Alexzander, after he kills his siblings, to make him emperor. Just my opinion. Thoughts?

DG was so good. Hadrian is a bit of a mary sue but the way Roucchio writes him it makes it interesting Hadrian is constantly taking on all these sufferings and having his heart ripped out so its really a curse. The mary sue in this story is not without consequence.
@Drivenby
@Drivenby Ай бұрын
I don’t think he is a Mary sue . He is just the protagonist lol . Literally bred in a canister , raised by sword masters since he could hold a sword and then having abilities gifted to him by a higher being … everything he does is earned or explained . Not a Mary sue imho
@tykay8030

@@Drivenby True the story wouldn't continue without him. The point I make is this higher power has brought him back twice but the gift doesn't come without suffering. Its done right imo.

Glad you are enjoying the series. Just watched your first vid on it. I'm on the first book myself and found myself agreeing with a lot of your points, especially on how it's more Sci-Fantasy. I was very thrown off by the vibe because of this. Going in I really expected a more sci-fi vibe, and was a bit disappointment by that as it really did just feel like fantasy. Once I actually adapted to what it actually it is, I fell in love with it. Again, I'm only on the first book still but already love it. Have a great day, Rachel!

I was just going along with the series and enjoying it - and then in the 3rd book I got to the name-drop (no spoilers) of a character from one of my favorite books, written a century ago -- and I knew it was intentional and might take this story to a place I never saw it going, opening up possibilities that blew my mind...at that point I was all in, take my money!

I am a big sci-fi fan and was skeptical about this series. It has its issues but overall I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s not my usual hard sci-fi as it’s more a pseudo fantasy kind of series but it’s a good series.

Hi, what about some more classic pieces that inspired not only Christopher Ruocchio (as he admitted), but also other masters of the genre like Gene Wolfe? 😎 Talking about Tales of The Dying Earth by Jack Vance (published from 50s to 80s.), which was supposedly the main inspiration for The Book of the New Sun. I haven't read those yet as I didn't manage to find enough time and courage , but in case you have or if it's on your reading list then it would be great to share your thoughts. Thank you!

Currently about midway through Howling Dark. While I enjoyed book 1 I'm not over the moon about it. Everyone on booktube said about book 2 as the one that really picks up but I still find the pacing too slow for my taste personally. I enjoy fast paced and action packed stuff so I was hoping for more exciting things to happen. I still plan to catch up to Disquiet Gods and I won't give up. There are still enough things there to keep me invested to keep reading. But if anyone has any sci-fi that is super action packed (that isn't Red Rising or Expanse. I already read them). I'd reeeeeaaaalllllyyyy appreciate a recommendation 😃
