Kings of War is very clearly written ruleset, and it usually takes only a couple of turns before you know enough to play. complexity comes from what you DO, not the rules.

Wonderfully helpful camera angles, I love the overhead cam showing the state of the battlefield, broken up by dynamic camera zooms and dice cams. Some of the sound effects were a bit loud, but I enjoyed their inclusion nonetheless. The quick highlights by Tycho did a good job of pulling me back into the action whenever I started to get lost keeping track of too many things.

It's definitely quite different, but Ambush delivers on some of the same high-level goals of Vanguard - smaller forces, smaller table, more focus on whacky stuff and dense terrain. Plus it plays so quick!

This was cool; but I’d have loved a “how to play” where you explain what they’re doing and why it’s good/bad, as I’ve never heard of KoW. You guys did such a good job explaining the ins and outs with Conquest, feel like a bit more explanation in this first game of KoW would’ve really helped newbies like me enjoy it to the max!

I hear ya, I have two armies to get people to play it, but it's so hard to get people out of that GW/warhammer bubble. I've had several games with friends and whilst they enjoy it they always stop short of starting an army even though the minis are super cheap and mantic are cool with you 3D printing and proxying as much as you want.

Seems like a fun game, I like the flanking mechanic to make attacks more devastating. While I don't know overall how popular it is and it's in an awkward phase with the new edition. I continue to hold out hope that one day I'll see Warmachine here XP

Where are you based? Its popular in the US, UK and Aus and some places in Europe. It's not exactly a new edition - more of a tidy up and consolidation of everything into 1 book.

Kings of War was the first tabletop game ive ever played, havent played since but i have two armies that im very slowly painting through. to anyone interested, I hope you like batch painting cause thats what kings of war painting requires and it's a SLOG. Really fun game though they're also very cheap alternatives to Age of Sigmar, which is really what id be using mine for

You might be interested in the new Ambush game mode. Delivers much of the KoW experience under 1000pts, so it's much less of a hobby commitment, and plays super quick to boot!
