Agreed. I believe in what Arin's arguing for (though I see why it shouldn't count in the game) - I doubt at any point anyone told him about the functional "lie" that we all say where black and white don't count as colors. There's some good reasoning behind why we don't call them colors despite their existence, but I believe (sorry Arin if you're reading, I do have to make an assumption somewhere but it's no judgment!) that Arin didn't learn from other peoples' definitions: I think he just made conclusions from what he had to do in his solo work, and thus, his definition of the word "color" DOES include black and white. And I can at least guess at this from experience: I made the same mistake but a good teacher brought up the "lie," and was kind enough to explain from my perspective why it's a lie in the first place: The societal usage of the word "color" is related to the Color Spectrum. Black and white don't exist "physically" like the rest of the colors, they exist as totalities or absence of color. When pure white light exists, it's "pure light," yet to be split into anything different so it's not on the Color Spectrum. So in painting, "lightness" is thought to be a better word than "colorful" for white, as the saturation of "white" is really just how "bright" things seem to the human eye. And thus, artists will see either see a white canvas in front of them or no canvas at all when they begin their work. Another good way to investigate is observing how colored paints can influence black and white by 'adding' color (note that none this isn't a very scientific explanation, just trying to avoid reading the wiki entry on pigments again). Anyway, hilarious Dan saw this coming ten miles away. He is a wise god we barely understand.

It annoyed me to no end. I’m an artist (like Arin), but a traditional one. I literally only ever refer to “bright colours” when they’re vibrant and would look like they could fit in the rainbow. Pretty much what you see in your average kids commercial. For “how close to white” I’d use terms like “light/pale/bleak/low pigment colours.” Calling a monochrome plunger bright should at the VERY LEAST beg for a clarification. Because he clearly believed no other interpretation could be valid here. “Did you mean bright like rainbow colours or white/painful to the eyes bright?” Arin is technically right and should just drink his ketchup smoothies with his fruity tomatoes because it frustrates me to see someone so confidently obtuse.

9:12 Arin is 100% right and it’s obvious that he had been answering from the perspective of an artist. A lot of people mix up brightness and saturation. Brightness is determined by how much white is in a color like arin said, meaning that the brightest colors often are relatively pale since white tends to desaturate colors when added to them. Saturation on the other hand is how close the color is to the primary version of itself vs. how grayed it is. I kinda felt bad for Arin since he was right but nobody believed him 😂
@grahamreece519 Жыл бұрын
I think you're confusing brightness and lightness, which are different things.
@ryanlong9800 Жыл бұрын
@@grahamreece519 the terms brightness and lightness are used interchangeably in the art world. While it’s true that depending on context they can occasionally have different connotations, neither of them are used to mean saturation, so either way Arin was still right. Just because the items were desaturated doesn’t mean that they weren’t bright or light, whichever term you prefer.
@grahamreece519 Жыл бұрын
@@ryanlong9800 I have never heard anyone use the term "bright red" to describe a mostly white red. It would be "light red"
@ryanlong9800 Жыл бұрын
@@grahamreece519 that’s mostly because when you talk about the subject of “brightness”, you typically don’t refer to the colors by the name “bright red”. Not because that is incorrect, but because that’s just how we were told to say it since we were little kids, likely because the term “highly saturated red” doesn’t roll of the tongue so people defaulted to a word that’s more commonly used in the English language, even though that word was wrong. They probably didn’t realize that word was incorrect and thought it was fine. Like I was saying in my original comment, most people get brightness and saturation confused, which is why hearing the term “bright red” gets people confused as to what it means. I’m not saying Danny and Ally were wrong for being confused about the difference, since it’s not really their faults since they were probably taught that a color being bright meant that it was blinding or overly saturated their whole lives. This is also why you likely have never heard anyone say “bright red” because most people don’t say that because most people 1. Don’t know that it’s incorrect and 2. Even if they do know it’s wrong would rather say “bright” instead of “overly saturated” because it’s just easier. However, like I said, Arin, being an artist, was likely answering from an artists perspective. And in art, we have the 3 major aspects of any color which we call HSB or Hue (what color it is meaning like blue, red, red-orange), saturation (the relative gray value of the color) and finally brightness (how much white or black is in the color). I apologize if you’re an artist and already know this, I just felt I needed to explain it to prove my point. So while I don’t blame Danny and Ally, Arin was still right.

Hey just want to say, Arin, You are one of the bravest people I know. That Creator clash fight was so against you and you came in and stuck it out. That’s so much character bro!

I have to take this opportunity to congratulate Arin on that excellent fight this weekend. As a first outing against a larger opponent, that was one of the best opening rounds I've ever seen. Our boi's got talent!

Round 2: Dan doesn't want to argue about warm/cool colors cuz then they'll get into an argument of colors. Round 3: both argue about colors Wow, Dan really does have Hiro's predictability

What Arin calls "brightness" most people I know, including many artists, would call "lightness." But I agree that saturation is a more precise term. I think this word difference might partially be a regional thing, too.
@roman3mp1r392 жыл бұрын
as a graphic designer, you actually have it backwards lol even in photoshop, brightness is defined by how much white is in an image while lightness is absence of color/saturation
@CdreSkippy2 жыл бұрын
@@roman3mp1r39 Photoshop's misuse of the term Brightness may well be the source of a lot of the confusion regarding both terms. Academically, brightness isn't officially a property of color, but it is often used to describe how "intense" a color is and is closely tied to saturation. Lightness is more accurately called Value, but both refer to how light or dark a color is in terms of white and black. The bean on Arin's shirt is Bright, while the shirt itself is Light.
