I do not believe enough people have brought this up in the comment section, and because I am a nitpicker it bothers me to see this. When Curly said he would have to hide his cross symbol, the way he said that was so offensive. He made it sound like 1. the majority of us worship some "evil" being (I say majority because of course there are witches that do that). 2. It brings back the topic of debate "does the Bible dislike witches?". The Bible does make it clear they do not like witches, however, I know a good number of Christian witches that believe in God and practice witchcraft. I am sure not many people would take him for real, like I said I am nitpicking, but how hard would it have been for Buzz Feed to gives these people some sort of information beforehand? Apparently hard enough that they didn't even care that they were making fun of a well-established, sophisticated religion. Also, they really need to learn the difference between witch and Wicca.

Sadly, no. They also did a video titled "People Attend a Passover Dinner for the First Time" and it was just as awkward and insulting. The poor rabbi was genuinely trying to teach them about her faith and culture, but everyone was just making light of it and cracking jokes the whole time. Wicca is a religion; witchcraft is a practice. You do not have to be Wiccan to be a witch. There are many people of all religions who practice witchcraft. In the same vein, witchcraft is unique to each practitioner. Even two people who have the same beliefs may not practice in the same way. :)

AmmR - So Paganism is the larger umbrella term for "alternative" religions, i.e., Druidism, Satanism, Asatrue, Hellenism, Kemetism, Shamanism. Basically, it is the umbrelle term for all religions that follow a polytheistic belief, or multi god/dess/dieties. Wicca is actually a path under the Pagan umbrella that follow a specific code and path that differs from the others. Wicca is typically more earth based, but Wicca - since it is still a growing religion - has so many different paths itself.

I can relate being any religion other than catholic or Christian in my sorta small town is really looked down at and people here are so scared of witches as well so realizing that I am Wiccan, believe in and practice magick really kinda sucks because it means that I have to practice in secret seeing as I was born and raised in a catholic family with a best friend who’s very strongly Christian (she got mad at me when I started messing around jokingly talking about talking with entities and deities) like my town is sorta a bible bell (I’m mean this completely literal in the little aprox. mile by mile business area near my house there are at least 5 churches all catholic or Christian in that one little area) I wish I could meet someone like this lady who wouldn’t look at me like I’m crazy when I talking about Wicca and magick like others in my town would but all I can say is it’s ok I will eventually find a better more accepting place with fellow wiccans where I can learn more and become a better person and as always to you and whoever else reads this comment blessed be 😊

Ok dude. This is not okay. Would you go to a catholic church and 'practice Catholicism with a real catholic'? No. Wicca is just as much a religion as that is, and I'm royally pissed that you treated it as a fun little thing to try out for the day. It's not a fun activity, its a religion and a lifestyle. There was no proper respect and I'm very uncomfortable with this. I have been seriously practicing Wicca for a few years now, not as long as many but enough to become deeply in love with this religion. You have to do your research before you try to participate on this kind of thing, you can't just jump into a religious ritual knowing nothing. I know you tried to do some 'research' at the store, but that wasn't enough. Honestly I couldn’t agree with you more. I personally am not Wiccan and I don’t participate in any sort of magic form of religion, but I would’ve loved if they instead took their viewers on a journey of research and actually knew what they were doing and did it in a respectful way. I don’t know much about Wicca, but I know people should treat every religion(even ones they don’t believe in/practice in) with the respect they would like for their religion. This video is actually really offensive. As a Wiccan, I find that they were very immature and didn’t take our religion seriously. I found it really annoying that they didn’t even try to do research or to just let the people talk about Wicca without making it into a joke. Wicca is as much of a religion as any another. When they were talking about “having to hide their crosses and Jesus tattoos” it really annoyed me because there are Christian witches. I am not one personally but there are so many different types of witches and they just didn’t even try to understand.

I just feel that since it’s not as (what’s the right word...) public or common(?) in terms that the average person probably never heard of it or only knows very few things, it is taken more lightly due to the influences of their individual lives. The priestess doesn’t seem to mind and as a person who is somewhat familiar with these(I’m not Wiccan), I didn’t seem to mind either. Once you get into that spiritually, you become simply unbothered by these small things because it’s a stigma or some pop-culture idea(like the ‘classic pointy hat evil witch’. I myself am a young wiccan who is still learning a lot of Wicca culture and I really did not appreciate them treating it like a joke. They laughed at a lot of it. I clicked on this video hoping to learn some more about Wicca culture so I can move forward with my learning but it wasn't helpful at all. I wish that there was more actual facts and they were explaining things more in depth. Also I have noticed people saying this was stolen content. actually they are..... well, its hard to explain but wicca and witchcraft are all part of paganism. pagan is an umbrella term for wicca, the draconic path, shamanism and witchcraft. witchcraft is the practice of a pagan. so in a way they are different, but all in all, they come under the same thing. a guy called Gerald gardener invented wicca, and then said that it was a type of paganism. wicca has only been around for about 77 years. so in conclusion, they are different..in a way.. but are all just different segments of paganism. if you disagree then thats cool. have your own opinion. just argue with history and the high priestess of all witches. i myself am a pagan, and i practice wicca, the shamanic path and witchcraft. so yeah.. it is kinda the same thing, but kinda not.

Magic can be used for the bad or for the good but it is true that some people use magic for the bad. And this doesn't mean that all witches are devil worshippers. In my opinion, I think that magic is a more complex version of science which we haven't discovered how it really works yet. Just like in the olden days, whenever people didn't understand something they'd say it was the work of magic.

Using humor to provide comic relief is one thing, but I feel that Sara and (especially) Curly weren't being genuine with their approach and came across as unprofessional, disrespectful, and immature. I reject the concept of religion, indoctrination, one's religion/"belief system" being determined by what country/society/which parents one is born to, "revealed truth", holy texts being the infallible word of God, faith, etc. These are not paths to truth, or methods of determining the true nature of reality. also, while it may be the case that some aspects of people's religions are not verifiable, many of them _are_ disprovable, or at the very least have no evidence behind them, or any reason for anyone to believe them. worse still, they are often completely inconsistent/at odds with what we do know, and may completely violate the laws of physics. are you really saying that people thinking magic spells(that people just made up)are real is not a ridiculous idea? or does it only become inappropriate to criticize or mock these ideas once someone declares them as their "religion"? what about the beliefs of scientology(thetans, intergalactic battles, Lord Xenu, etc.), or young earth creationism, etc., especially when blatantly wrong beliefs like this, or indoctrination in general can cause harm or a negative impact on someone's life?

My family is probably against the whole idea but I really enjoy what I'm doing. I love the acknowledgement of Wicca but, as per usual, it could've been done better. I think they should have talked more about solitary Wicca because that's more... common, I guess. Maybe touched on different topics like the wheel of the year, book of shadows, and that Wicca doesn't always involve big rituals or even magic. I'm Wiccan and I've maybe tried casting a spell once? It's not always this loud, strange thing that is confusing or "weird". It can be very down to earth and "normal".

So Wicca is both a religion and a magickal tradition and there are many other types of magick that aren't Wiccan at all.

Actually, Wicca is rife with rules and several little ways you must follow as a practicing Wiccan. As such, it is hardly a personal religion. No more than Catholicism or what have you, anyway. The point is, you're following a path set up for you rather than making your own, which is fine. Follow the Law of Three, cast circles, follow the Sabbats. Do what you're comfortable with and what feels right. But don't mistake your religion for a highly personal one when it really isn't.
