happens to volunteers all the time! my local shelter bans volunteers from adopting for the first two weeks because they know everyone will immediately adopt all the dogs and never be able to handle them all. they're not wrong, but I still think about some of those dogs

some people just don't deserve dogs, but sometimes the older dogs unfortunately end up there because their owners have either passed away or can't afford the vet bills. the second goes for special needs or sick dogs as well. they often are there the longest. if you're ever thinking of adopting, and can afford it, consider looking at the dogs that need help the most 😊💕

Just a tip for meeting dogs with cropped ears - Cropped ears are usually pretty sensitive to being messed with. Most dogs will tolerate the slight discomfort, but if you want a good first impression stick with *around* the bottom of the ears and not the clipped portion. Around the ears are usually the itchy spots anyways lol

oh wow, Isabella is so much like my boy Mochi. he has a bit more sass, but the anxiety is the same, and they look a lot alike. Ryan, if you do take her home, I can offer a few tips on working with her anxiety. for now, you're doing great soothing her! and you figured out how to coax her through the hoop really quickly. you're a natural. I recommend a similar approach for the tunnel. if you have her at one end and you go to the other, you can kind of stick your arms and head in and coax her forward. Mochi was afraid of the tunnel and hoop at first too, but was immediately willing to run through with me showing him it was safe that way. after that, he ended up loving the tunnel! ps those are tearstains around her eyes, it's normal! unless there's visible goop, she's good. their tears are slightly brownish and their fur is pretty much colorless, so this will happen. there are certain foods that make it happen more or less, but it will always be there to some extent unless you basically bleach their fur. all it really needs is kept clean and brushed out.

Don’t forget that you can adopt so many other animals! I’ve adopted guinea pigs many times now. The oldest lived to be about 8.5 years old and she was the sweetest guinea pig I ever had. There’s bunnies, rabbits, hamsters, lizards, birds. All great pets for any household
