Had a Black D reg mk2 XR2 in 93 after having a faultless XR3i, it didn't stay for long in my ownership, they looked excellent but were wobbly near the limit, naff brakes and slow (even at the time), the XR3i were a far better machine. Chopped the XR2 in for a last edition Helios Blue Mk2 16v Golf, with big bumpers and bbs wheels, which was a far better machine than the Ford's in every department, then went though a succession of VW's over the years.

That is proper!😎😎😎 A mate of mine had a mk2 XR2 on an F plate back in the early '90s. Burton big valve head, Kent cam, twin 45 webbers, k&n filter, Janspeed four branch manifold and exhaust, Koni suspension, but still sat on pepperpots. Mega car.👍 We ended up, upside down in a field racing a Peugeot 1.9 205 GTI. The only thing salvageable was rhe pull out stereo.🤣🤣🤣

Surprised the 45s worked when throttle floored, not enough air column being pulled with a 1.6 motor be ok when at high rpms but low down probably not. Used to tune these back in the day there was more usable power from two 38 dcoe as air column past mains started moving quicker.

@@rice-rocket shame he did that they had potential, as you say bigger was not always the best, but much fun was had finding out the best setup. Its a time passed now with turbos and efi. Just up boost and fuel slope and hope it holds together without doing internal strengthening of rotational mass.

This car brings back memories i loved this ride. My version was a motorsport monster with custom add-ons, but the sound of it sat on big bore 4, full exhaust system and new manifold, it was tweeked and even my dad was scared of it and he loved his cosworths.

So many of these turbo conversions, especially with big power, have such a short power band. They usually only pull for a 1000-2000rpm and you have to change gear. These kinda cars must be shite to drive daily or are out n out unusable. This little Fiesta was pulling from pretty low for AGES! What a pukka little conversion, the fact that it looks like a bog standard 1ltr is the icing on the cake. The ultimate sleeper, it might not have huge power but with its flyweight it don't need it to be mad quick! Very, very tasty!

I've got a VW Golf Mk4 1.4 16V (AXP engine). Despite its relatively high weight, it is pretty nice to drive and its handling is quite good as well. Yeah, I know most people would say "Just a simple car - nothing special." But this car's quality is very high. I also got a VW Golf Mk4 1.8T GTI 20V (AGU engine). I am currently working on it to increase its power and repair some broken parts. When I've finished my work on it, its engine will approximately got 170HP, instead of the "standard" 150HP.

In the garage my brother works at In Swaffham there are a few immaculate refurbished cars in there. There is a spanking refurbed completely standard XR2, exact same colour as this one. Instantly reminded me of this. I took pictures and added it to his google business page, LG Motors its called in Swaffham. He is also half way through refurbing the James Bond underwater Lotus.

I don't know if we ever got a 1.8 Zetec Ford engine here in the States. I know that we had the 2.0 that came in almost every Focus and most Ford Contours (Mondeo) here. The Contours also had the Mazda 2.5 V6 here as well. A buddy of mine had a early 00s Ford Escort SR with the 2.0 Zetec with a 5 speed manual and he modified it, but I would SMOKE him with my turbo DA9 Integra that I pieced together from junkyard parts. I built it from the OG SSAutochrome turbo manifolds that were sold on eBay back in 2003 before the cheap turbos and turbo parts became widely available on eBay. It made 257 whp on 10 psi from an old Dodge Daytona T3 turbo that I bought for $50 from a local junkyard.

ah there she is :) cool little thing, you dont see rs1600i seats very often these days, even less in fiestas. honestly you could put another 100hp through that gearbox and itd be fine, especially with an open diff, aslong as your nice to it and not droppin the clutch at every set of lights etc lol
