My best friend is a luthier, he's also an ER doctor. He built one for me. He had a stock of re-purposed Brazilian Rosewood (old beams from a Brazilian house). He built a cutaway triple 0 with a Brazilian back and sides and a sinker redwood top. Abalone binding, ebony bridge (with my initials inlaid) & ebony fretboard and Mastodon tusk saddle & nut. He didn't charge me anything. I turned him on to guitar playing back in 1980 and I think he was paying me back. Pretty nice guy. Beautiful guitar that plays like butter. Just subbed, looks like a cool channel. Thanx!🎸

In 1992 I built a mahogany kit from Martin. Then in 1993 I apprenticed with Mossman and made myself a walnut dreadnaught. Both still going strong 30 years on.

Love seeing others' builds and hearing you guys talk about them. Finished my first guitar build this year and felt like I'd never do that again. Then saw your 3000 y.o. series and it made me want to start another, but I think I'll wait a little while for now (or maybe just until you finish! lol). Keep up the great work!

Great video and I watch all of yours. I can’t thank you enough for the information that you so generously provide. I built guitars in the 1970’s and I learned that musicians are mostly poor so I had to get a job that was somewhat less fun. I am now retired and am working on a 2nd and third guitar for 2023. I will need to figure out how to sell them at some point but doing it for the joy of building instead of trying to make a living with it is very freeing.

Bought the dread kit from SM when on sale along with some books and started to prepare to build. Thought I would start with something easy, so built a dulcimer. Then a ukulele, enjoyed so much, built 4. I have started the guitar, installing binding now, and planning guitar #2. Have built 3 more ukes while waiting for glue to dry, etc..

For the war stories of luthiery.. I'm on a 3-month course at Crimson Guitars, and on my third (last) build I was at the stage of drilling the ground wire from the bridge to the control cavity using a very long 2mm drill bit. And yes, I went all the way through, out the back of the instrument... twice... Third time lucky, I guess...

Today is my first visit to your site. In ether 1970s I had a goal to build ... but never did. Who knows. That said, as a hobby player I have some desire to learn to set up the rig. I ordered my first semi hollow guitar and it hasn't arrived yet but before I saw your site. The things I have heard people say is the bone nut notches are too high and I (one) could file them down and put a slight V shape toward the top and things to make the string slide and not sick. I have other guitars I would like to learn to set up better too. I will visit your store site but would like to perhaps buy a complete kit for set up .. and learn to sent intonation etc. // I am glad I came across the channel. 70 .. with injured hands and feet from a car crash last year .. so the easy action and part reason for the semi hollow ... I normally play acoustic ... pat

I've seen some great guitars built from "just a kit" ... of course, I've seen bad ones as well. For the beginner, a kit is definitely a great way to introduce the future luthier to the ins and outs, without a huge investment up front for tools.

Hey guys, I'm watching your video on decorative inlay work because my friend put a dent in the soundboard of my old Ibanez acoustic dreadnought, and I've been thinking about using an inlay to hide it...but I don't have any experience with inlay techniques. So I'm hoping that you can help me out with this. Thanks, Collin.

@DRChevalier you found the channel, but couldn't figure out how to navigate away? As a subscriber, did you ever consider going to the main page and click on videos ... HOLY $hi7 there's a bunch of videos to watch and learn from. Instead of being bored by other' building, watch those. Oh, by the way moron, you should really get influence from other builders -learn all you can from all who are willing to teach you. Learn from other's mistakes and your own. It's the only way you will be better than you are. What tips and skills did you learn from the 3000 ear old build?
