Great review. Regarding the comment on the type of spruce used: I would think that the species of the top wood is less important than the quality of the particular piece selected.

After watching a few times, I like the Lollar. The Duncan stack lost the high end. The other two were everything I expect from a P90, but the Lollar excelled above them.

I just bought an Orangewood Morgan it is one of the most popular guitars along with the Oliver. Maybe you can do a review on the Morgan guitar which is a solid mahogany top and laminated sides and back. Your review on the Ava was great. Hope you can do the review on the Morgan which is a lower cost but very popular guitar by Orangewood

I remember a teacher back in the 1970s making a guitar in school, mostly from a template and instructions and hand tools. Taking nothing away from this guy, but times have changed and I’m sure the school scrap wood guitar sounds nothing like this.

Yeah african blachwood is great but super expensive. I like BR rosewood best, because it is not that dense and heavy but it's also unobtainable these days.

That is stunningly beautiful and sounds impeccable ! I would love to see it up close but it sure looks like absolutely incredible work. Absolutely fascinating !!! I want a Taylor 814 CE but I can tell just by watching the video and listening near the end that that sounds almost identical to the sound I desire and have heard from the 814 CE. Incredible sounding guitar... It's hard to believe how well the sound carries through just by video alone. That tells me live it would really be wonderful to listen to. GORGEOUS 🤩❤

If you change the nut and the bridge on the Yamaha LL16 to bone it will not sound so bright. When it comes to recording it's a killer. It sounds amazing.

On a practical long term durability and repairability stand point do you want a homogeneous one piece neck? I was always taught that this is a terrible way to go for long term durability and repairability! I understand Gibson can not do the joint well but plenty of other's do on accustic guitars. Some companies have gone to 5 piece necks. Thanks for your thoughts on this and your time!

I know I will pay more for a human beings time, sweat and sometimes blood than I will for a machines work. I think that when you want to get $20,000+ for a guitar it needs to be hand built with zero automation every step of the way or I might as well purchase a Taylor for far less! If it is going to be automated the price should be lower. As automation climbs the price point should drop. You can hand fit pre-fabricated parts made in China think about hand fitting a StewMack guitar kit that kit is not a hand built guitar rather a hand assembled guitar! Where is the line in the sand? Next laminated aka fancy plywood guitars become the norm under the stupid marketing of "saving the planet" as if guitar making is just some terrible environmental disaster like lithium ion battiers, wind turbines, electric cars, and solar panels made in China that destroy multiple eccosystems in one fell swoop! No thanks! Keep it old school or your just another Gibson!

Sinker Cypress! Heck yea. I made an electric guitar out of sinker cypress. My late father was a carpenter by hobby, and living in southeast Louisiana, we knew a group of men that owned a mill. They specialized in dredging up old sinker cypress and milling it. We had several large slabs of it. It had a very specific smell to it when we were cutting & sanding it. Hard to explain. It's a breath-taking instrument with a crazy amount of sustain and tone. It has the body of an pre-war gibson acoustic, a strat neck, Schaller locking tuners, an LSR roller nut, and Bigsby roller bridge, P-90's, etc. We got as far as cutting out the rough shape of the guitar, and a few days later, by dad died. I couldn't bring myself to work on it for a little while, but I finally finished it about 6 months after he passed. I used Tung oil for it's finish. It has about 15 layers of Tung oil. It's an insanely cool guitar.

The Eagle Abrasive sanding sheets are a massive game changer. Once you dry sand with them you never want to go back to wet sanding. Also, they’re perfect for waterborne finishes like CrystalLac Britetone (which recommends only dry sanding).

Great video! I might be late to the party, but I wanted to ask - should you be ready to do a fret level as well? If the fretwork is poor, bringing the action to a proper height might lead to buzzing. Would you check the frets first to figure out how low you can bring the action? Thanks!
