We're still banging on about just the right amount at the right time of documentation because ... well, more often than not there is infinitesimal amounts of supporting docs and knowledge. As people move along (through career path, job transitions) often the know how also moves along.

It amazes me that in 2017, when software coding standards and practices are pretty well defined and understood, we are still banging on about the basics of documenting your code/product. What amazes me more though, is the number of programming persons who either repeat existing information on a subject or manage to waffle through many, many pages of waffle on a subject (Linux et varieties seem to be a particular offender) or spend their time writing reams of babble on Gist/Git or memorise 30-odd markdown tags because they hate MS Word, yet seemingly can't limp through their code without whinging. I'm a Technical Author who has spent quite some time trying to prod engineers into documenting as they go along - preferably within the code but on the back of fag packets will do. It's not that I disagree with this woman but I just don't understand why developers have to be repeatedly told the obvious.
