Dominic is on the right side of history but saying that "we were all in the dark" etc. is just ridiculous. This only applies to non-experts. Experts in this field knew exactly what was going on, and some were speaking up, just look up Sasha Latypova.

No, wrong. Weird Al yankovic does not have to pay royalties for parody. Parody is protected under copyright law and so he owes no royalties to these artists. That being said he typically asks for permission from them. There is a difference between simply reperforming a song and doing a parody of a song. Again a parody is protected under copyright law and he owes no one a dime. This is why Amish Paradise was able to be made and make weird Al money even though Coolio didn't want it out there. He had no rights to the song because it was a parody. He probably plays his songs because he wants more people to become familiar with his songs and not everyone else's songs. To show people that he is a musician and that he can come up with original stuff.

Oh my God, this complaining about not making money and Twitter did. Without Twitter's reach nobody would even know about your song existed. To compare it to long ago when if your song got popular you'd make a lot of money is so dumb. Fact is that a long time ago no one would even know your name. You'd have been extremely lucky to have your song hit anyone's ears other than your family.
