13:38 As an Edinburgher born and bred, Edinburgh is arguably _more_ beautiful in the rain! Sure, on the rare sunny days it sparkles but somehow the architecture and Gothic vibe just go with rain and clouds. Dreich! Thanks for the upload. 👍

I am most pleased that you like my home. Forget umbrellas, have a hoodied waterproof jacket and waterproof overtrousers. And, if you don't mind looking a bit weird, goggles for the horizontal sleet. Umbrellas just get scrumpled and are a danger to other denizens of the city And of course a backpack to hold this stuff because the sun may be out in 30 minutes, you don't want to get too hot. If you insist, a hipflask with a wee dram in it helps.(Laphroaig Quarter Cask if you ask me)

Chris is right. Umbrellas are for losers, specifically losers of umbrellas. If you must have one you need the one with the hole in the top to let the wind through (not a joke.)

@@johnnycobb00 I used to live on Arran on the west coast (which I sorely miss), now in Edinburgh (home for decades), but the city is changing, in ways I don't like but won't go into here. I'd like to move somewhere more rural again, an island preferably, but realistically it'll be somewhere within Midlothian due to family connections. I'm visiting Arran in October, an annual jaunt to a village cemetery, but such islands on the west are indeed wonderful places, whether it's Arran, Skye or countless others, and the locals are indeed friendly. After spending three years dealing with my late parents' estate there up until 2022, something I miss about the place is that walking past a stranger on a road who does not say hello is considered unusual. I get the appeal of places like Edinburgh for tourists (or any city), it has the sights, the history, etc. But the social fabric of urban places paints a different picture, cities are places where one can be surrounded by half a million people and still be completely alone. Strangers on buses don't talk to each other, whereas on Arran they absolutely do, indeed not chatting to random folk would be considered rude.

I haven't commented on any of your videos for awhile, but as you're back in my town (albeit 45 years ago or whenever this was filmed) I feel compelled to do so now and all I can say is that I'm truly sorry for what you had to endure! You were indeed lucky with the weather during your last visit and I hope you're not just being kind about still enjoying yourselves this time around. Believe me, I know how depressing it can get!🙁 The pair of you are without a doubt my favourite travel vloggers and it's a crime that you don't have more subscribers. Looking forward to your Highland escapades and praying that you didn't have to put up with anymore storms.

Aww thank you, Ian! That truly means a lot. 🥹 We were being 100% genuine -- we still loved our second go around in Edinburgh even without the blue skies. As for the Highlands: the weather couldn't make up its mind that day. We experienced everything from heavy winds, to rain, to no wind, to hail, to clear skies, to completely overcast skies. But as with Edinburgh the day before, the weather didn't stop us from having a great experience. (Bizarrely, Scotland manages to look just as beautiful in undesirable weather.)

@@qlctravelsEvery year the Queen held (and I assume now the King holds) 4 garden parties. 3 at Buckingham Palace and 1 at Holyrood. The invitees are people who have done good works. My wife has long worked in charities. We were invited. There are a couple of hundred at the tea party including some other dignitaries too. For example then first minister Nicola Sturgeon (a lovely person in person who my wife has met while charity working before).

Look up a video called Hibernian fans sung Sunshine on Leith . You will enjoy it I’m sure . Sympathise over the lost baggage. Happened to us when we went to Vienna. That's when I found out that the "48 Hour" promise by my deodorant was true! 😂 (and fortunately, when we asked our hotel, they provided complimentary toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc., too). Pity about the weather when you arrived in Edinburgh. When we went to Sydney, Australia, we arrived just before a cyclone hit the city! Sometimes it's just your luck (didn't stop us having a good time). 😄

If you go to Skye I think you'd love it. I think of Skye as greedy because it has most of the best Scottish landscape features crammed onto one island - also seals. But if you get the chance, consider looking into a little place called Plockton. It's quite near the bridge going to Skye and it has a micro climate all of its own. Palm trees grow there. Not kidding.

The trams interface on the ticket machines annoys the absolute hell out of me cos it is SO needlessly complicated by showing all the stops... They DON'T matter! The price is the same. The ONLY price difference re. 'stops' is if you are coming/going from the airport zone or not. All the current interface does is confuse the hell out of tourists (and a few locals too) ! 🙄

Heavy rain is usually accompanied by strong gusts of wind here in Edinburgh, I'm afraid! Umbrellas are therefore a bit of a pain - far better a hat with a nice wide brim, under a hooded waterprooof coat, as you've still got your hands free. Add scarves and gloves in winter and you'll be just fine - all of which you'll learn once you move to downtown Leith, huh? Please know, if that's your plan, you're most welcome here - it's only England that has the big chip on its shoulder, about immigration: we Scots recognise that we can't live as part of the modern world just on our own strength, and that we need your skills and experiences to get by! It's also the kind of place that all yout friends and family will want to visit, over and over if they can, so what is there to lose?!! Those Highland day trips you're doing are a reasonable introduction to some of the popular spots, but as I expect you'll be realising by now, the very best places are those that you'll find once you're near enough to go out on weekend trips of your own... I look forward to your other videos!
@qlctravelsАй бұрын
Fun though it is to let everyone speculate, we should probably clarify that we aren't moving to Scotland -- at least not any time soon (although there IS a major Scotland announcement we'll be making in the near future that's unrelated to this video, but is still quite momentous). A few people have drawn the same conclusion about moving to Leith, and we worry that section of the video may be raising expectations a bit higher than we intended, so just know it's nothing as extreme as moving.

As an English, they're a bunch of idiots those people. Unfortunately. What you said reminded me of what Stephen Flynn, of the SNP, said during the campaigning for the general election. We need people, in general in the UK but some English are so prideful they think they can do everything with nothing. 🙄
@iainpringle9993Ай бұрын
We Scots recognise we can’t live as part of the modern world just on our own strength? I agree. That’s why we have the …. wait for it ….. English to help us along and the Welsh and the northern Irish for that matter in the wonderfully strong, collegiate, diverse United Kingdom. I’m sure you agree don’t you? You definitely wouldn’t want to be anti English would you? Borderline racist/xenophobic?!
