Have no idea why it is so pleasant to follow ya’ll. I could write a paragraph of all the details but just let me say it s been great watching the boys grow up over the years, and the fun and sweetness of Buggy joining the family, Ben’s great storytelling, calm voice, clear explanation of how to do stuff, and endless know how in all the aspects of building a homestead from animals to growing plants to iron work. And then there is Meg. Such a lovely person, great friend, sweet guide for her family an also her lovely voice. I’ve learned so much about good cooking methods and how to make hard recipes into simple methods, and wonderful meals. I know life is not “perfect” for the Hollars, but for a little while watching your channel, life seems to be just the way it’s supposed to be 😊

My dad and a friend of his were going to dig out and burn all the rhizomes of Johnson Grass in our non-fluffy soil in the Texas Panhandle when I was a kid. They worked for three days and gave up. In some places it dug deep then traversed sideways multiple times in multiple depths off of the same roots/rhisomes so that they dug over their heads. They filled and burnt a bunch of 55 gallon drums with rhizomes. We had less for a few years.

Hi guys! Ben. I just wanted to complement you on how awesome of a father you are. Meg is pretty awesome also, but how you are raising your boys and buggy, to help you farm, is just amazing. I don't see the twins helping much, maybe they do off camera, but your two younger boys are very kind, caring and helpful young men. They seem to be right there when you need them. They jump in on whatever you need help with and I don't think I've seen you needing to ask them much. They are going to be your hands when you need them for sure.....and your sweet buggy, she is daddy's helper. I know that you know those two are special, but I wanted you to know, your audience also sees it. Love your family and you're all in my prayers. PS, Meg, I cook right along with you, lol. You have a knack for country cooking and a lot of us can learn a lot from you. Love, love, love your bread....and, I just made your pastry. So good 😊

I’ve always understood that the presence of grubs means healthy soil. My brother and I managed to farm about a two acre plot at my moms old place by hand and the rotor tiller. Great memories! That was when I was in my 20s and I’m 78 now. Keep up your hard work and caring for the family. God bless bro!

Johnson Grass has 3 ways to reproduce. 1. By seed. 2. By leaf nodes. If the stem is leaned over and the spot where the leaf begins on the stem makes contact with the ground. 3. By rhizomes. Or, any minute part thereof.

I really enjoy all your videos. This one brought back memories of working my grandpa's farm as a kid. Johnson grass was a constant battle. No matter what was going on if we saw a clump we stopped what we were doing and dug it up. That stuff is evil. Have courage though and remember. There ain't no Johnson grass in Heaven.
