Growing up, my dad owned a specialty cheese store Cheddar's Wheel. They had a soup and sandwich special every day for lunch. There were homemade breads too. It was next to my mom's store, The Needle Nook. 🪡 Back in the 80s when malls were cool! All the rage. My parents were gems and I definitely owe my love of good cheese to them. Anyway, all that to say they still swear by the old style adjustable wire cheese slicer. I love mine too. ♥
@acountrylife2 жыл бұрын
I have a wire cheese slicer, but the wire is broken (has been for quite some time) and every time I go to the cheese factory I forget to buy a new one. They keep them behind the counter at the cash register. Out of sight, out of mind. I bet you spent a lot of time at the mall.

Good!!! I like to add cabbage too ( like you, I use what I have on hand). Your making me think, I need to get on my soup kick (I Love it, doesn’t matter what time of year). How do you like your Lodge cast iron pot? I've been wanting to get a heavy, enameled cast iron pan. I like the price of the Lodge pots, but was wondering about the quality.
@acountrylife2 жыл бұрын
I really like mine and use it a lot. The enamel is quite stained, but still performs well for me. I've heard from another KZbinr that they don't like how the bottom curves upward and prefer their other enameled cast iron that has a big cooking surface and the sides go straight up. I have a 7.5 quart and 6 quart and use them both often.

When I was growing up we weren't allowed to serve ourselves, everything cooked had to be tried. And if we ate all on our plate, it was okay to ask for seconds but, they couldn't be wasted & had to be eaten. We weren't allowed snacking between meals either. I think these rules stem from my parents coming from large families with many mouths to feed. Other side of this; I'll never forget the time I was left to sit at the table because I wouldn't eat liver & onions. My mother never made it again after that difficult & trying episode & I still won't eat liver. 😒😁
