Practice with the family - someone grabs your ankles - slap your hands over your wallets. I watched this happen on a train in Paris. One person grabs your ankles, pretends to have lost their ticket. While you are distracted looking down, their buddy lifts your wallet and leaves the train just before the doors close. Any form of distraction - slap your hand over your valuables.

Also in Paris, right outside the Louvre. As we were helping an elderly lady back up from a rough fall, her purse having been brutally pulled off of her, a young man with lightning reflexes hoofed after the young gypsy miscreant. It was a hard tackle, very cathartic for those of us watching. He returned the purse to the sweet old French lady. I do not recommend his response necessarily, because the older Romanians will stab you and not think twice. In this case the thugs were not on hand thankfully.

Take one and keep it on you at all times! I learned the hard way. Took 2 watches a dress watch and a diver on vacation to Costa Rica. 3 friends and I rented a house. I hid the dress watch in a pocket of folded jeans in the closet. The place had a maid that came 3 times a week to clean and bring fresh linens. Long story short. Didn’t realize it was missing till got home and un-packed.

Sorry that happened to you. I also usually take two watches on vacation (dress and casual) but I never unpack, I ALWAYS leave my clothes in my suitcase, and lock it whenever I leave wherever I'm staying, be it a hotel, resort, or family/friends. The only clothing that stays outside of my suitcase is dirty clothes which I place in a separate plastic bag, and my shoes. It's usually one of my Seikos (Black Monster or one of my Baby/Neo Monsters) and one of my G-Shocks. I also got rid of most of my mechanical watches and only use autos (my Seikos) or G-Shocks with Tough Solar and RC time keeping, so I never have to worry about having inaccurate time or losing power. As cool as smart watches are I can't bring myself to buy one knowing I have to constantly charge it, and that the tech will be outdated within a few short years.

im not attacking you either, i recognize your comment is a joke and see by your profile name you are interested in homesteading, which is obviously super based and i wish you nothing but good fortune in your efforts. Being able to singularly provide for your needs and those of your family is an incredibly respectable and honorable undertaking. The majority of the worlds residents in this day and age dwell in cities, this is the reality. The industrial revolution and it's consequences have been a disaster for the human race. This we know. America's cities have become pretty unpleasant places for the most part unfortunately, many other countries show a model of a better (more enriching, enjoyable) way for the city dwelling majority to live, and in turn create community within cities. Community being something we seem to be losing or have already lost. Those in our country fortunate and willing enough to create a homestead (and hopefully also a community) far outside the confines and fragile systems of the city, absolutely should as it is a more grounded and rewarding way to live. If that is the choice you are able to make and know it will be beneficial to yourself and your family i think its the best possible thing to do, so long as you are not entirely isolated from any community. Community matters, especially for children. So if you read this i hope it made sense, and you can see that I am someone who likely shares many of your same values.

Every screw I've ever wanted to stop from rattling free I put a tony dab of anaerobic gasket maker on the thread. When it sets up it doesn't get solid like lock tite and is still easy enough to break free if you need to take it apart in the future. It works particularly well for things that vibrate like a motorcycles because the rubberyness of the gasket maker moves a bit instead of hardening when it dries

I will happily take classes while employed, but most importantly because I believe in your cause, I would absolutely relocate from Pennsylvania to be a part of your detail and be willing to give up my life for you or your family. Class A CDL and extensive heavy equipment & chainsaw experience- I'm not in a position to name my price, but I'd at least need what I'm making now- which is $20/hr. Id be willing to take a few dollars less since I'm not fully qualified. I was going to go to law enforcement school this year, if you would prefer I wait- I can go become qualified and then join your warband. Imperial is objectively less ideal than metric. Why the hate? Engineers in the US prefer it (minus transitional difficulties)

I can’t believe some people still debate Imperial versus Metric. Metric is so intuitive compared to the idiosyncratic Imperial. Btw, Europe is massive and quite varied re watch thieves!

Cody I'll save you the trouble. Don't bring a watch. They'll have nothing to steal. More interested in cash in my experience. Additionally watches are not what they used to be in terma of common desirability. Hard to resell when everyone has a smart phone in their pocket!

I literally wear a 24 dollar digital watch in ODG from amazon. its water proof, lights up, its simple, has an easy to use timer and alarm and hasnt failed me yet. funny enough i get compliments on it pretty often. ppl think its worth more. I do not value jewelry at all, i just stuff that works and wont bother me if it gets lost or broken.

You mentioned theft right at the start of the video, well pin straps are far easier to steel than the metal band.

I don't know if Europe is a better choice for safety. I've lived here my whole life and since 2015 it's no longer the same safe place it used to be. More than 800 group rapes a year and more than 37 knife attacks a day in Germany alone. As a white it's become quite dangerous in Europe because of the muslims and i'm not a racist, that's just the truth. Stay safe my friend.

So, you switched from a noncutatable watch band to a cutable one, that is easy to replace. That is siomething to think about. For travel, you want a watch that is subtle, not flashy or too shiny. You want a color that blends into your skin., not easy to spot. Since you're bringing the tools to switch bands, you could always do that for when you want to dress up, otherwise I normally don't worry about it. You can always bring a backup watch for that purpose. There is something to say about going cheap. You can get a cheep $10 watch that is "good enough" for your travel, that will do everything that most expensive watches can do. I suggest you get one when you get there. A thief is less inclined to steal something that is cheap and can be bought locally. I would say most people don;t look, yet I did have a company comander spot my Tag Hauer from across the room. It was a cheap knock off, but he didn't know that, and wanted to know how I could afford a $2000 watch, when I only spent $30 on it. Yes, a thief is going to be looking for the expensive watches, so wear subtle, hard to slip/cut off and so on.

I'm in agreement with another commenter about thieves liking shiny things. I went to Dubai for an extended trip in 2022 and left my shiny watch at home and took my Gshock with me. I had a great durable watch with all the functionality that I wanted and did not worry about my watch. I hope ya'll have a great trip....safe travels.
