Congratulations on the move. Don't buy any furnishing until you find what you truly want. It is okay to leave some areas unfurnished till you can do it right. You already have the minimum that you need. You already have living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bath; and you've already ordered nursery furnishings. Best wishes!

When I moved i labeled with different colored sharpies on white duct tape. I put the tape around the corners and each color was for a room. It was so easy to unpack and get the boxes in the correct rooms.

I love moving! I'm 74 and I've moved 22 times since I was 18 .... and I lived in our last house for 25 years. I think it's such an adventure. We moved 3 years ago and my poor husband thinks this will be our last home. Apparently he still doesn't know me very well, LOL.

Wow ! Congrats ! So exciting ! I cannot wait to see it along with your new little bundle of joy ! A new home is just full of potential and I'm sure that you will amaze us with your organizing ideas and your great decor style ! I absolutely love when you share where you bought your decor items. I'm officially requesting a decor oriented-video with links so that I can create something similar in my home since I love your style so much ! I personally have moved a lot of times during my 7 years of being a university student. I have never used any kind of wrapping paper to wrap fragile items, I've always used rags, towels, blankets and sometimes even clothes to wrap anything that could break. I also either wrote in detail what was in each box directly on the boxes, or just numbered the boxes and created an excel list with exactly what was in each box. It's especially good when you have a bunch of your friends helping you out so that you know exactly where each box should go. I have even went so far as to assigning tasks and writing these on dry erase boards so that everybody knew what they were supposed to do. It's especially good when you have a lot of people helping for unpacking boxes, moving them or cleaning rooms...this way you don't have a ton of people asking you what to do next :)

I either put just a bunch of tasks (in priority order) that people could choose from and setup the whiteboard (s) facing the entryway so that it was one of the first things you saw when you came in. You just cross out when items are done. When I had a LOT of people helping, I put them in groups on the whiteboards and assigned them different rooms (for exemple : group ''A'' assigned to the upstairs living room : a person in charge of cleaning the windows, a person for dusting....a person for cleaning furniture or even walls / cupboards / closets...a person for vacuuming....and someone for cleaning the floors). When the helpers are done, they just switch to the next room (or they can start unboxing stuff). It's surprising how quickly each room can get done with just a couple of people who each have their own task. This way, when the others came in with all the boxes and furniture, the rooms were pretty much ready to unpack in.

Those big plastic/vinyl shopping totes with woven handles that so many retailers have. They are cheap & handy for certain things - you can carry over your shoulder and one person can easily carry.

Happy for you all! Since you are super organized it will be unlike most moves where people underestimate the amount of stuff they've accumulated and have no idea where anything is because it was hastily thrown in a box and not marked lol. I went to help my brother in law and his wife move once and I am not kidding - we arrived and nothing was packed. I asked where the boxes were and she tossed me a package of garbage bags. I've been busy when someone is moving ever since.

OMG that is my nightmare situation!!! I have been packing so far in advance and making sure to be very mindful with what goes in which box to help make it a bit easier to unpack! My brother did the same thing to my mom when she showed up to help him move out of his freshman doom! Nothing packed....

We moved across country when I was 9 months pregnant and had five kids. We rented a Penske truck and did it all by ourselves. It was so much work but we have lots of fun memories from that time. All this to say, you can do it and it will be so lovely for your family!

Ahh this is so exciting! Huge congratulations! My one piece of advice on the Uhaul - rent a truck that is one or two sizes bigger than they recommend per your apartment size. We didn't do that on our last move, and we almost had to do two trips! 😅 I can't wait to see your whole moving process - and your new home!! 😄

I'm also moving in a month. For me it will be from a rental to the first place I will own (at 45yo). It's only 2 km away, so I'll be going a bit back and forth in September. My brother has a small lorry and I will enlist friends to help me move (and paint the flat before I move in). May I suggest renting a Penske truck (if it's available in your area) vs U-Haul. U-Haul does not have a great reputation for long distance reliability. I used Penske when I moved to another state and it went seamlessly for my family and me.

Some of our neighbors gave us little essentials like some nice mrs. meyers soaps, dish towels, etc. they were perfect to help us get set up and to fill all of the guest bathrooms we didnt have enough stuff for!

Congratulations on your new house!🤗👍💕 I know you mentioned that your gonna be living in the same state as your husbands parents but are your parents in Nebraska too? If not why didn't you move closer to your mom and dads place instead? Just curious since us women like to be closer to our own moms. Oh by the way.... you can get free boxes at Walmart when they unpack stuff in the store. My daughter bought a house as well and she's moving too and that's where I've always gotten them from. Always for free. Just make sure they don't break down the boxes. Just stand by them or go around asking for some as they are unpacking stuff. The post office has some smaller boxes for free too. You know the ones for shipping things? You can put medicines in those and makeup stuff and the junk drawer stuff. You know, little things. Walk around the stores. The workers rather give you the boxes then have them do the extra work to break them down and carry them out. So your actually making there jobs easier on them. 👍👍🤗💕I've never had to pay for boxes. I've always gotten them for free. Check the dollar tree too. And other stores like Dollar General.
