Yesterday I was playing and the odds were against me, I was a solo sloop and I was doing the flameheart fleet event. All of a sudden a brig came by rammed me and I see all three wearing merchant outfits attack me, it made me laugh so hard because it was unexpected and you rarely see my boy merchants. 😆

You opt into PVP the moment you start or join a session in this game. That's literally how open world PVP works. By extension, that's how this PVEVP game works, since it has PVE and PVP smashed together in a blender. PVP, by itself, is not toxic in this game. Everyone is here to fight unless they say otherwise and back up the claim. I have seen players who do back up that claim, which is fine, since this is a sandbox, you do what you want (including cheating, since you can't be punished for it).

See any bozo can argue that “Well there are options other than fighting and loot finding for things to do in this game so I shouldn’t have to fight” but here’s the thing: It’s a pirate game. And you know who were the main targets of pirates? Merchants, and fishing ships. By definition, they are literally ASKING to be hunted by pirates by being merchants/fishermen. People just need to learn that even if you’re not going to be hostile, you should still be willing to defend yourself. Even if you’re a “Friendly Ship” you still need to be ready to fight back, because not everyone is going to also be “Friendly”.

as much as I hate PvP in SOT (I'm just shit) at least I don't complain about it happening cause I know what I'm signing up for whenever I play lmao it's just so null to complain about PvP in a PvEvP game. also to counteract "I bet pirates used slurs" I can guarantee if they did it was very few that were actually just racists considering freed slaves were common shipmates on pirate ships as they would be liberated from the ships they were imprisoned on so it's very counterintuitive and stupid to be a racist or general bigot as a pirate considering the pirates life was open to anyone from all walks of life so you were guaranteed to meet a black pirate, a female pirate (tho rare ofc but we know of a few notable and POWERFUL ones) and probably even a homosexual pirate, literally all that matters is loyalty to your captain and crewmates, adhering to the code and any given rules governed by your captain. they were pirates not 12 year olds on XBL
