Hello, about the lack of berths in South Italian marinas perhaps I can give a likely explanation. In the last 5-10 years most of the marinas (or at least the ones situated in most favourite places) have been colonised by Charter companies which have occupied 80% of the free berths with their huge boats especially catamarans, so leaving no room for private boats. I live in Sardinia and I saw this trend with my own eyes. Marinas which untill last year offered a good amount of berths to passing sailors are now filled up with charter boats. In summer those boats sail around but in low season they are stuck in the marinas occupying all the space available.

Might be so! We are just so unused also to this type of pricing, not inly the ack of availability. Not beig able to find the price so we can decide from it, but eealisong it changes by day!? At one place they were at least honest to us, telling that if it is bad weather or a storm coming the price go up a lot. We find that to not be good seamanship as it takes advantage of people in bad position and makes it hard to plan to be in a good position according to weather forecast. It's no longer a matter of if you plan sailing well but how much money you have. And to give a price of 120 euro per night in low season, even if it's the last place they had, is just not right in our opinion.

Very interesting that you had issues with the Italian marinas. We might skip Italy. I hear only bad things in relation to marinas.

Marinas does also not always mean what you think, sometimes it is only the name of the town and sometimes it means it is a quay you can tie up to but very often no toilets and showers, but still equally expensive...

@@sailingtilda we usually shower in the boat so we don't really need bathroom in the marina. We are with 36ft that has a nice sized head with shower.
