I have done construction almost 40 years and can say that when you set timelines for projects you will often be disappointed so loose the timelines and enjoy the daily journey. accomplishing even a small thing in a day is progress. you have a lifetime to achieve your goals so finding joy each day is job one. as my time here grows shorter, I am so happy that I learned this when I was still young.

What i think is stupid is the state will let you live in a camper but not the cabin which is built 10x better than a camper

I've been following you two since the start of your Tenessee adventure, and I totally agree with "letsgo.." about the ridiculousness of the cabin restriction. Makes no sense. But I'm writing this to help re-enforce your big dreams ! I'm 75, living in N.H., and had always dreamed of being off grid somewhere around here, but due to medical issues and not being smart with money, sadly I'm not. But in my opinion you two have accomplished a huge amount in the short time you've been there. Yeah the camper isn't what you'd hoped to be living in, but due to "beaurocratic bullshit", as we all know it is, you've managed to sustain life through a winter. I realize it's easy to sit here punching buttons on my phone writing this, but I know what it takes to do what you've done as a blue collar guy myself. I envy you two because you're living my dream, and quite successfully I might add ! Keep digging, you'll get there, you know that anyway !! Meanwhile I'll be liking every video you put out and wishing it were me !! Rock on 🙂

The local county wants money, if you have a home of their specified minimum size requirements then they can charge you higher taxes. They can all go straight to hell.

State laws are downright stupid. We live in PA where you don't need a helmet to ride a motorcycle but you need one to ride a atv and utv. Stupid. Should make people really scratch their heads and wonder why we let such idiots control our laws and country. 🤦‍♀️

It's funny you buy land you pay taxes on it and then you pay taxes every year or they will take it from you really and truly you're just renting your own land from the state

Enjoy it! I’m 72 and we took over our small 27 acre Kansas family farm. To be young like you guys would be awesome. We lived in a big Texas city so this opportunity came up and we took it. So enjoy your youth. Enjoy seeing what your doing because I can relate being were chores like your guys. Raised bed garden, built a greenhouse. No animals. We do lit one of our farmers neighbors cattle graze out pasture. Good for the land.

Y’all have done AMAZING in 10 months! It’s hard to see when you’re working hard every day. I know because I’m doing the same. You’re young and have so much time ahead of you (and energy). Be encouraged! I just stumbled on your channel and have been binge watching all the episodes since the beginning after seeing your video on what happened with your shed (temporary home). I was hooked after that episode and wanted to follow your journey. While I don’t have a homestead, I have a home with a large yard, garden and too many projects ahead of me to name, both inside and out. Keep at it. We will. In the end, we will both be sipping tea on the patio of our dreams. 🫖 ☕️

Some advice from an old off gridder to younger off gridders, treat each day and each project as an adventure and learning experience. My cabin is my home base where I come back to when I am not off on some adventure and I keep it simple and easy to care for. Raising animals is fun but also lots of work and ties you down. Dogs can go with you when you decide to hit the road for a few weeks or months. When you get older and you no longer have an itch to travel as much your homestead will take on more of your time and you can get in to gardening, raising animals and settling down. Hope that helps!

Equipment for the ranch. An old Case backhoe would sure help with projects. They are tough as nails. Old ones sell for $10,000 or less. Little paint, new graphics and love can make them look amazing.

And sometimes there is just not enough time in the day to do everything on your list! I have been doing this for 18 years! I just got my outdoor shower that I have always wanted! Lol Life is not the destination, it is the journey! Trust me y'all are doing things really fast! Your big hiccup was the shed they would not let you live in. That really set you back time wise! Find time to enjoy your land! It's beautiful! I remember sitting outside crying one day 6 months into our journey here, feeling so overwhelmed! Lol This journey will make you resilient!! ❤❤

We left a in town 1 acre lot, tiny homestead to 75 acre land farm. Oh boy does it need A LOT of work. The house is a tiny 2 bedroom cabin for a family of 5. It's been 2 yrs, progress is slow when you have little ones. Thankfully our teenager is learning the meaning of hard work and working alongside his dad getting things accomplished. We still have a long road ahead of us before we get this farm up and running the way we want and making some really good memories along the way. Y'all will get there. Making memories and having fun the whole time, AND learning new stuff is the best part of all.

Looking at homesteading now, down the backward lens of being in our 60s with (some of) the hard work behind us (been there, built that, grew that, made that beer), I've been waiting for this video . . . it's brave of you to face the internal difficulties of it (and the exhaustion) head-on, and not just have your channel vanish after a year or two, as many do. Here's a little thing that I did years ago that I'm now glad I did: every week (or every day :) I have a short to-do list, the 10 or 12 most important tasks (new coop door, plant beans, clear out garden bed #6, wash rug, etc), on a quarter sheet of paper, crossing them out as I go along. Then one day, not having accomplished everything on the list before I had to make a new list (to say the least!), I taped the old list to the bottom of the new list. Well let me tell you, this has turned into a fantastic thing! That first year, the list grew and grew, and I just kept folding back the crossed-out parts and continuing to add to the bottom. Every now and then I wrote the month and year on it. At the end of the year, the list was more than ten feet long (!!) and, guess what? MOST OF IT HAD BEEN DONE! Not only that, but the next year, when I was wondering, when did I plant those beans last year? there they are, easy to find, all in order. We now have saved these to-do lists of many years---they are the scrolls of our life, and a visual testament to everything that has been accomplished. Hang in, enjoy the small pleasures

You both are fantastic animal owners, you have chosen a beautiful homestead land to build just the way you like. Everything you have was done by your love and your hands. It is all long lasting and is wonderful to look upon. Great workmanship all done with laughter and I am sure a few tears, hopefully more of joy. You have made your mark upon this wilderness and turned it into a place of dreams and a place of love. I'd say you have accomplished a whole lot this past year including taking enormous amount of hours entertaining all of us. The Lord bless you and keep you always smiling and lifted up. Its the best adventure having gone homesteading. From where I sit progress looks like: an established home, deck, storage shack, solar, water system, great fencing and garden, well built nice looking chicken shack and chickens and eggs, compost bin to envy, driveway, clearing land, puppies that adore you, health, time to take one day at a time, live, love, and laughter. You have done awesome.

I think what you have accomplished is fantastic!! When you take things slow and not rush into/ through something just to get it done and move on to next project then things get missed or mistakes happen! When they move slow you have the chance to see errors and make changes before it’s too late. Making the best out of setbacks is another opportunity to learn and improve yourself!! Ya’ll have come a long way and have plenty of time to continue!! Don’t let yourself get discouraged by not meeting goals, things will get done in due time!!

We are starting our journey ourselves, and I just HOPE that we can accomplish what you guys have so far in a years time. We are much older that you guys, but we are hard working...just my career gets all that hard work and leaves me little energy left for our homesteading efforts...but we are trying, and we will get there...sometime lol. Keep up the great work! Love your energy, truly inspiring! But from an older generation - my advice is to enjoy the journey! If that means slowing down, do so :)

Have you guys possibly looked into relocating the cabin onto a site-built concrete pier foundation? From your videos, it looks like you have it sitting on a block founation. Changing to piers would make it non-movable. Just an idea, and still an expensive endeavor -- I'm sorry you guys are going through this.

It's called patience folks. I've been out here doing it for 16 years the work is never done. Hell you'll spend half your time trying to make things that you've already done better because you found a better more efficient way to do it. Enjoy it while it's good. You know what they say tomorrow is not promised and you never know when it's that last day. I learned that the hard way.

If they allow an RV for living just park the cheapest crappiest RV on the land and say the cabin is an outbuilding. Are they gonna come check every night to make sure you aren't taking a nap in your "shed"? Just rename stuff.

Try having a full-time job and trying to achieve what you have so far. I do what i can on my 30 acres when I can. I wish i had a stay at home partner to help progress things faster to maybe leave my job to provide more sustainability. Things just take time no matter the project.

I hate to say it, because i do it too, but its the booze and drugs that are slowing down the progress. When you got happiness in a bottle, you wont find it in your work. Im doing the same thing with weed, i have too much fun smoking it and watching youtube videos, but the things that really bring me satisfaction (my projects) i put to the side. Its ok in moderation but when it becomes the main goal its where you put away your dreams and visions for a cheap quick high or buzz. Its good once in a while to tie you over but only real things bring real happiness.
