'We're paying a very high price'. Wives of fallen Ukrainian heroes Yurii Ruf and Taras Bobanych

Iryna Dadak is the wife of the fallen volunteer, poet, and public figure Yurii Ruf. Every day she comes to visit her husband's grave at the Lychakiv Military Cemetery in Lviv.
On April 8, 2023, Iryna is met there by Nataliia, the wife of another fallen soldier, Taras Bobanych, better known by his call sign "Hammer," commander of the 2nd Battalion of the Right Sector Volunteer Ukrainian Corps.
April 8 is the anniversary of Taras's death. The graves of Ruf and Bobanych are located next to each other.
When Yuriy died, Taras posted the following: "Yurii, Yurii... It wasn't supposed to be like this... Far from it! Thank you for everything! See you in better worlds". They met 'in better worlds' a week later.

That's one high honor to have a maternity hospital named after you, me thinks that is preferable to any of the highest medals you could earn especially after death. If I could I would chose a medal or a maternity hospital named after me If i died over a medal 100%. I think every kerbstone, school, factory, airplane, house should have the name of a fallen soldier/citizen written on it. It would cost a damn fortune but what cost is it to a life lost fighting for their homeland. And maybe all the war criminals can also be remembered on trash cans and toilets. Just a thought : )

My goodness Ukrainian people continue to surprise me with their resilience and dedication to the homeland I understand patriotism and the idea of nationalism but nationalism can be taken too far as witnessed by the rabid maga folks in my own nation but Ukraine Is at war with a bully neighbor who's been trying to subjugate them for hundreds of years so it only makes sense that patriotism and national pride Is flourishing when this is all over a whole generation will have to rebuild their mutilated cities which will create more animosity against Russia so I think healing will take many decades and not just for the people who lost loved ones but from the amount of integrity and sheer grit I've seen from average Ukrainian people in interviews I think they will only come back stronger especially if they are all like this wonderful loving wife and mother carrying her husband's legacy to keep his memory close for her family and others put simple she's amazing and strong and a shining light for humanity

the ukrainian government was oppressing the ethnic russian's in their eastern territories. Outlawing their language in their schools. How were the ethnic russians oppressing ukrainians? They are the minority is Ukraine. And the minority are the oppressed. As it is in any nationalistic country. The war in eastern Ukraine is about wiping out all the ethnic russian, who are in fact ukrainian citizens. Ukrainian nationalist's dream of a ukraine free of all ethnic russians. You need to study the history of the hate behind the nationalists in Ukraine.

Wild nationalism, be Ukrainian, Russian or American is not identification, but usually discrimination enforced by strong men. The simple fact is we are all simply human, and how about we identify just as that. I appreciate that these men fought and died for the country they love, but the symbology and hatred they promote, does leave me feeling uneasy, even though I know the bulk of the Ukrainian people don't follow this path, over all it does not seem positive to the Ukrainian cause. It’s easy to say that from the outside. Given the long, horrific history of Russian atrocities on Ukrainians, it is not surprising that people feel hatred towards Russians. American nationalism is not the same as Ukrainian nationalism at all. We are indeed all human beings. Human beings who don’t want to be murdered and tortured by our neighbors. To then say it is discrimination to hate that murderer and have strong, hostile feelings towards those specific people who are literally trying to kill you and your children is a wildly naive and unexamined opinion.

Ukrainian hate for Russians in general is very much understandable, more so than ever with this latest attack by Russia, something I have often commented on myself.. But understandable and a "good thing" are not one in the same. And I am not just talking about general nationalistic feelings or love or pride for the place you live either. I specifically am talking about "wild" out of control nationalism, the one that demeans other people's origin or culture, and puts your own on above a pedestal all others (we are superior etc, Z symbols, swastikas or N symbols etc - many dress images used in this documentary gave me very early SS feelings too, or did that slip by you?). This type of demeaning behaviour is exactly what Russia is doing to Ukraine too, but in Russia's case this is full blown, systematic and at a government level. So if the reaction to that, is to simply mirror that crappy behaviour, then in fact you just become the monster that Russia made you out to be all along, resulting in a simple (but "understandable') viscous cycle of hate & death, that the international community will ultimately not support (this gives Russia a win BTW). And you may want to deny it, but ultimately that is not a good thing for Ukrainian society to be living like that. Sometimes helping a friend is also about telling them something they may not want to hear, I am an ardent supporter of Ukraine, and living in a free society, I am happy to provide my input and perspective, which may not be as unique as your forcefully put point implies. So if what you or I have said is well said or not, let's just say we said it, and that is fair enough.

Nationalism is the same anywhere you go. It's about ethnic/racial cleansing. You need to look up the meaning. And indeed, the ukrainian nationalists and militias have been bombing and shelling the towns and villages in E Ukraine, where the majority is in fact ethnic russian ukrainians, since 2014. Where did you acquire the idea that the russians have committed atrocities on the Ukrainians in W Ukraine? There's been a civil war ongoing in Ukraine for almost a decade now. The west ukrainians against the east ukrainians. If Ukraine could somehow win and wipe ukraine clean of russia's operation in their east, they'd kill every last ethnic russian in their easern ukraine. Is that what you want? You want ukraine to win back that territory so they can continue on with their ethnic cleansing of ethnic russian ukrainians?

"Чукрен та чухраїнці" "Чукрен" Сива-сивезна старовина… Отоді ж таки, як жила-була на світі Атлантіда, гонів із сотню за Атлантідою, трішки вбік, праворуч, була друга казкова країна, що мала чудернацьку трохи назву Чукрен. 3валась так та казкова країна через те, що її населення, люд, тобто, її Божий, завжди чухався. Дитинча маленьке, як тільки починало було спинатися на ноги і коли його чи запитають про що-небудь, чи загадають що зробити, зразу воно лізе до потилиці й починає чухатись. І так ото чухається все своє життя, аж поки дуба вріже… Через те й країна та звалася Чукрен… Власне кажучи, перша її назва була не «Чукрен», а «Чухрен», але згодом «хи» перейшло в «ки», а правописна комісія той перехід «хи» на «ки» затвердила. Так назавжди й залишилася назва тої країни «Чукрен». Жили там люди - чухраїнці. Усе було вони чухаються та співають. До співів були вони великі мастаки. Співають було цілими століттями. Спочатку в них пісні були дуже короткі, мелодійні і з глибоким змістом, а потім, як уже було заведено «Всечухраїнський день музики», почали співати «Корита» : Ой, корито, корито, Повне води налито.
