From a recent Alamat performance in Naga, Bicol, the guys shared some insights on the Day and Night MV and choreo: 1. The mermaid here is a Magindara from local folklore who sports a tail akin to that of the Butanding (Whale Shark). Donsol, Bicol is dubbed the whale shark capital of the world because of the high number of Butandings in its waters. Although similar to the Tagalog Sirena, the Bicolano Magindara is not the same as it apparently doesn't consume children. The latter was mentioned in the Ibálon, a folk epic from Bicol based on the Indian Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharta. 2. The choreography incorporates elements of the folk dance Pantomina de Albay, a courtship dance from Albay, Bicol. The song also mixes Tagalog and Bisaya for the lyrics; hence, the words for Day and Night here are not the Tagalog "Araw at Gabi" but the Bisaya "Adlaw ug Gabi-i" Hope these help! This MV was inspired by the Mermaid folklore from Bicol and the Visayas called Maguindara. They said that the first and last tone of the song was the voice of the Maguindara.
