Have you considered a different Chevy dealership? In my experience it's best to have multiple offers for the same car. To save time go to a different Chevy dealer and tell them the price you were offered and that you want it lower. You can make the Chevy dealers work against each other without them knowing.

Best thing to do is get pre-approved at a Credit Union or bank. Then you buy the car through the Auto Club. They have brokers whose sole purpose is to buy cars on behalf of their members. They typically will check all the dealers within a 100 mile radius to find the best price. The dealers don't pull the scams on them because the Auto Club is a high volume purchaser. The car shows up at their office. You inspect it for yes or no. If yes, you cut them the check from your bank or credit union and drive off. All warranty work is handled at your local car dealership anyway. You can even buy extended warranties from your bank or CU and they are typically cheaper than at the car dealership. You can even get gap coverage which covers the gap between what your insurance will pay verses the actual amount you still own on your loan if the vehicle gets totaled out in a wreck or is stolen. The one downside is if you plan on doing a Trade in you can't with the Auto Club. But you would make more selling it private party than through a dealership trade in anyway.

Always haggle on the total price and never the monthly payment you want, because they can manipulate the year/ amount however they need to to make that work. And, yes, would love to see Orlando fun stuff outside of the parks!

Agree with you Rebecca, they adjust how many years the loan is (aka how many years it will take to pay off the loan) making that number smaller, which means you pay more than the car is worth due to interest and fees at the end. The most stable way to do this is buy a car that is already in your price range, pay it off. Once paid off put that monthly payment you would have into a savings account till you have the money to put down to your dream car to make it affordable or to buy it right out and have zero payments. (sorry to hijack your post rebecca, but you have a smart point and I wanted to add my two cents, cause interneting and things haha)

Glad someone said this. If you argue about monthly payments they just change the term (number of months you're paying for) and the interest rate. The price of the car fluctuates only by like $100. If you argue on the total price of the vehicle you can get $1000 off the car, without much effort. Warranty plan is a nice feature to have, but not strictly necessary. We have a dealer extended warranty on all our vehicles, as a peace of mind thing. Rule of thumb though, is buy a car you don't think will need a warranty. Don't buy one that might not be the most reliable and slap a warranty on it. Hope they opted for a low deductible though, that way they can finance out most the the price, without being blindsided.

Car dealerships love to work off the payment, not the bottom line. This car dealership was likely going to get your monthly payments down by putting you on a 72 month loan instead of a 60. I'm currently in the market for a vehicle too, and honestly I would just go off the bottom line. If the price of the vehicle doesn't budge, neither do I

Correct. Dealerships will be fast to get you to a point of how much per month. It's their game now. You might say well I can afford 300 per month, and then they will mess with rates/ loan term to get you to your payment amount, even if the price of the vehicle doesn't change one bit. I want the price of the vehicle lower is the bottom line.

Josh Fontaine sad thing is most people only car about one thing. How much is it a month. not the dealers fault, it's the consumers fault. Saying I want a,lower payment and saying I want to pay less for the vehicle are two different thing. Don't blame the dealer. Say what you mean. Sad thing is people do say what they mean. You guys. ALWAYS get pre-approved for a car loan. Go to the bank, credit union, etc. and walk into the dealership with a pre-approved loan. The loans through the car dealerships are often not very competitive. And, the old "how much can you afford a month" is an old gimmick.

Anastasia B I learned that lesson the hard way. My boyfriend and I walked away from the car we really wanted because we went into the dealership completely unprepared. Two months later we were pre approved through a credit union, got all the paperwork in order, walked into a dealership, and walked out less than an hour later with a car. I will never try to buy a car without having a loan in order first.

Honestly... I'm getting anxious listening to you about these car negotiations. And that's why, for the last 15 years, I have only bought through CarMax. There's the price - that's it. No pressure. They check out all their cars (to high standards) so you know it works and works well. You find a car from across the country (if you want) and they'll ship it there for you. You have like...3 days? ... return no questions. And 7 days to exchange for something else. (NO PLACE gives you that.) . . Some people say that their used cars are a little more expensive than a regular dealership - but it's the trust and no wheeling/dealing feeling you are being ripped off and manipulated that I don't mind paying for.

many years ago I worked at a car dealership....and heard all the tricks, one thing never do up front...do not tell them you have a trade-in...often a salesman will then add what they are giving g u on ur trade to the cost of the car....it's one of the first questions many salesmen ask to know if they need to boost the price.... I am glad I am not the only one who had an emotional roller coaster when buying a car. I spent 5 hours in the Chevy dealership wanting to buy a Camero. they were giving on many numbers and stuff. Until the 2nd week with the car, the guy in charge of finance in the dealership gave me the monthly payment I am comfortable to pay with a decent interest rate. Also, I got out at midnight so the fact you guys got out at 11 am made me feel good about myself.

My first car was a tape player, after going through many tape/aux converters I got a new radio with USB. I got a top spec on my new car and it came with aux, I miss my USB system but I did buy a really good chunky cable from Amazon and its lasted a year and counting and I plug that in to an mp3 player. Car shopping is such a pain. I've only bought second hand and my sister bought a brand new car and we've both had problems. Hers broke down within a few weeks, mine had problems within a few months (luckily it was covered in the warranty)I also had a paint chip that wasn't covered over in the check and work they did prior to selling the car to me so they sent me the paint pen in the post rather than fix it for me (told me that was going to be a couple of days but I had to chase them for that). I hope your purchase goes smoothly though!

I'm glad you took us on your car buying journey. It was fascinating to see how different the process is to buying a new car in Australia. We generally can't pick up the car straight away. We need to wait for registration to be done if we don't already have custom plates. Normally, a 24 hour wait. Longer if you want windows tinted.

We got on line after going to local dealers and found what he wanted. we found exactly what he wanted 5 hours away from us. we drove there and picked it up to save 1800.00 . plus they even topped off the truck with gas that we drove there. I got it at a very sweet deal also. Saved my son a lot of money.

Never negotiate on the monthly price. If he busts out a "four square"... walk away. That is how they hide other fees and more interest and whatnot, while presenting a desirable monthly payment but in the end, he's ripping you off. Check out car buying tips on Edmunds.com. Ask if they'll show you a copy of the invoice, or what they paid for the car. Make an offer based off the invoice price.

Been driving all electric since December 2015: BMW i3. Love that machine! Kind of looks like a concept car I actually get to drive every day. Got a 3-year lease, since I know batteries are getting better and better. I have a range extender, but have never used it, and have not put gas in the car since signing the lease. Love driving in the future! I am in Kansas City, and we have a great charging station infrastructure, but I mostly just plug in at home every night. Haven't attempted a road trip yet, but considering one at some point. Welcome to electric driving world!

I used to work at a Nissan dealership. The best time to purchase a new vehicle is the end of the month. Salesmen try to reach monthly quotas and are more likely to be flexible on the price. Regardless, hope you enjoy your new vehicle.
