i came home to my cat on the verge of death two days ago.. i took my baby, Marie, to the vet and she was poisoned... my neighbor constantly kicked her and yelled at er and harassed her... she’s being charged animal cruelty, abuse, harassment, etc. it hurts a lot...

My cat Lucy is 19 and half years old. I saw her being born and held her for the first time shortly after. She is hopeless at catching mice, she is a nag when her food is not served when she wants it, insists on sleeping in my bed with me during the winter and even more so since she became geriatric... but I love her and know I will miss her deeply when she goes.

When a wild animal trusts me I feel so grateful. Its such a warm special bond to connect like that. And when she got so hurt she knew right where to go. She did not die alone on the side of the cold road. She knew she was loved. Thank you for being there for her.

They should have taken her straight to the damn vets to be HUMANELY put to sleep! Not left her in their house till she died from severe pain and bad injuries. They're disgusting for doing that. If they're breeding fowl and have cats, the most decent thing they could have done was take her to the vets. They were disrespectful to "their most beloved pet cat". I see this a lot with farmers. They do not want to spend any money whatsoever on any animal, wether it be a pet or not, and to me, that's cold hearted. You have a pet, when the time comes, spend that godamn money and show those beloved pets some respect!

Just wanted to mention about your chickens that you raise and then later use as food. At least you raised them in a kind nurturing environment, unlike the caged chickens that are cramped into a small area and had there beaks broken not to mention all the other horrific things done in the factory/farms!!! So sorry for the loss of Belle. I'm very familiar with cat loss, hurts like family. Had to wait 6 years after losing 5 cats in 7 years prior, before just recently getting a kitten again. One was our cat from the year we got married, at the time 16 years old, still can't think of him without tears of missing him. We do our best to learn to live with losses, no matter what kind, but death truly cheats us out of love when it comes to people and pets. As to those that bring negativity to you in comments about culling your chickens and turkeys. I say, "why don't they?" Some say it's not for everybody, but I say, if you eat chicken, beef, lamb, cow, deer, elk, turkey, rabbit, sausage, bacon, pork...then at least have the heart to understand what you're eating. Too much disconnect between people and the food they eat. Now we have bigger fund raisers for animals than humans?!? Tree huggers, nature lovers, earth savers...but no one really knows what they are talking about. Life cycles...death gives back in life...done right. The way we've been doing it for the last 50 years...death breeds lethargy. It's sad. We were meant to experience all life has to offer, take it in and let it shape us. Not form opinions about something we never really experience but watch on some cable channel as a means for people to raise money. It's sad that so many people actually believe that book learning, and watching TV gains them experience and a voice. I'll never understand that. Yes, everyone should kill their own supper and breakfast, plant their own nutrition, and experience what life is about. It's about life...death takes on a different meaning when you experience it's rewards. It's been said...people really act like their meat is grown in a test tube and frozen before it lives...sadly they aren't far from the truth if they eat Tyson chicken, and mass cow and pig farm meat. But that's not how it was meant to be. We were meant to feel some loss and therefore gratitude to the animal that feeds us. Store bought meat has made ungrateful people. Lisa Vanvalkenburgh, I agree with your comment about people having a disconnect with their food. We live in an Agricultural state and not in a huge city. Many years ago, when my sister was in junior high school, she had an argument with her friend over where milk came from. My sister who had had milk straight from a cow knew that was where milk came from. Her friend, an obvious city girl couldn't believe that. She swore that it came from the store. She just couldn't wrap her head around drinking something that came out of a cow. It was funny but a little sad that a kid that age didn't know where milk came from. Apparently this same girl didn't know where steaks and hamburgers came from either. About a year after the milk argument she was caught releasing cattle from a pen at the local slaughter house. I guess that makes her a "cow hugger."

So sorry to hear about Belle. We have had a few cats get hit on the highway and a dog die from cancer. All buried on the farm. Of course we have lost chickens. Hardest part of homesteading/farming is death. The chore trade off sounds nice. :)

I know that pain ~ that heart ache. 2 years ago in April, we lost our 14 year old Jack Russel - Peanut. He was my birthday gift 16 years ago from my husband. He was truly my best friend, buddy, side kick & protector. He saved me twice from being bitten by poisonous snakes (once even taking the strike himself & nearly dying). He gave us more laughter & pure joy & devotion than you can imagine. He literally was @ my side almost constantly. We had lots of chickens, but he was our only pet ~ but literally a family member. I wish I could tell you that my heartache of losing him has gotten better, but I can't. He left a hole in my heart that is still there. I do hope your heart break eases as the days go by.

I’m familiar with the loss of a cat, I had my magic for 18 good years, I grew up with her, my mom had her before I was born..... Rest In Peace belle.... your out of pain now... I’m so sorry for your loss but it’s nice to have people to relate too... But the orange cat seemed to be grieving as well... I cremated my magic... I sleep with her every night. When ever one of my gold fish died my mother and I would bury them, and then plant flowers over the grave, and said that the animal would watch over us threw the flowers.... so now when ever I have to bury an animal, I just lost my Garter snake Milo, we put flowers right over his grave. My other animals even my reticulated python is grieving Milo, my was loved by all, he was such a sweetheart and a snuggle bug just like my fox snake foxy, people say animals don’t grieve over other animals but they do, I’ve seen it...

Oh, so sad. I had a cat that was mine, then he was my mom's (when I left the country), then he belonged to my brother & sister-in-law & nephew - when he died we were all so sad, he was an amazing cat. We buried him in my brother's back yard & we planted tulips around his grave & tomatoes (he always ate the worms off our tomatoes).

Man, what a bummer! I feel your pain guys, I had a pet cat Moe, short for Moses, that I found while on a canoeing trip with my dad. She kept me for 18 years, all throughout my bachelor days. In the end I had to put her down because of kidney failure. It was one of the most emotionally difficult days of my life. Before anyone tells me that's not worthy of major emotional distress let me just say that I know I am fortunate beyond most people's experience in life in that up til Moe died I never really had anyone (human) die that was as close to me as my cat. Sounds crazy because most 40 somethings typically have had someone they know pass away, but other than some distant family members or people that I may have known but weren't really close to me, it was my first loss that jolted me emotionally. Just another day on the homestead I would imagine. But from loss comes new life and new opportunities for others to move into the void left behind. I am glad that this video started off with Becky talking to us about the ducks. Becky you seemed so comfortable in front of the camera in today's video, of course your smile has a tendency to make me smile so...thanks for the smile! :-)

Little do city folk know there is a breed of chicken that grows so quickly its skeletal structure cannot keep up. They eventually cannot move to food and water and that's not a quality of life either. Funny how these people screaming animal abuse think their burgers and chicken patties grow on trees!

For my ducks I used a large extremely large plastic bin with a lid I cut a hole in the side of it and put two of them in the chicken coop not only did the chickens use it but also the ducks and they did bury their eggs but they buried them inside the large plastic bin container. The container stayed clean and it was easier to dig through the pine shavings

I have two questions for you folks. Question 1, Why when you found Belle, didn't you take her to a vet, to ease her pain or end her suffering? Question 2, and why didn't you bury her deeper? So close to the surface of the ground will allow the decaying smell to be strong which will attract predators.

Well like they said, they found her that night, all the vets may have been closed. and from the looks of it, it looks like it was very cold and the ground may have been frozen. So there for its hard to dig, even with a tractor. and they may have not buried her that deep because for video purposes. they wanted to share them giving her a proper grave. and if she was stepped on, kicked, or even ran over they may have started heading their way to the vet and she would have passed already. and most predators wont go trying to dig her up.

Its kinda hard to go to the vet at night after hours. Not alot of vets are open pass 5. And moving the animal around streeses the animals even more. I rather have my cat comfy and die in my arms then at a vets office

Most vets you can call after hours and if they aren’t available they can refer you somewhere that is. They probably didn’t want to spend that kind of money on a “barn” cat.

We’ve always had a great bond with our previous cats & dogs. Our current dog is an almost 4-yr old Golden Retriever and we hope we have him a few more years yet. We have our first flock of BUFF ORPINGTON (egg layers) - Born in Minnesota on 03/18/18 and shipped to the Northeast Kingdom of VT that next day. First egg laid: 07/28/18, last hen to start laying: 09/09/18. Gave several dozen complimentary eggs away and this week started selling. Very exciting times. My husband and I have 5-jobs between the two of us, in addition to working our small piece of property, but working our small bit of land gives us joy!!! Next up for the day, to get all 10-Hens out from their coop run, onto fresh green grass under the care of a POP UP POULTRY TENT ;). WE have predators in the area both by ground and air, just trying to protect our investment/feathery friends. WHITE HOUSE ON THE HILL, love your channel. Thank you for your commitment to showing what you folks have learned. I hope to be able to learn how to use YOU TUBE and share our area of the U.S. along with happenings on our small homestead with hopeful interested viewers some day.

Losing a pet is hard! I have found in my life that losing a pet helped prepare me for the time when my parents passed away. My grandmother once said that “death is a part of life”. I didn’t understand it then, but now I do. So, any life is a blessing from God. Even our animals.

I remember when I lost a chicken that was only couple weeks old. I cried for 3 days. She was just so precious to me and I had gotten to know her personality during that time. Belle is in a better place now. She's happy.

It's always sad to lose the good ones. You did right by her trying to keep her comfortable. She was loved. Our cat, Sasha we had her from 6 weeks old and she was one month older than our son who is 27 now. She passed at 21 year old. She was a house cat and acted more like a human. She is on the mantel in the brass kitten below the painting our son made of her and drawing my sister-in-law made of her too. She touched a lot of lives. Calli and Gracie will be 17 this year both house cats also. They have some medical issues but have great lives and we love them to. Haven't graduated to farm animals can't where we currently live but take about 30 steps one way and you can....We are on one of those lines between city and county. And our location is more county than city. But we can still raise food.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your cat but I can't help but ask why you didn't take her to a vet to ease her pain and suffering? I think that would have been the humane thing to do other than keeping her warm.

Make 1'x2' hex chicken wire panels and an extra. Place the panels under your wood shavings and feathers. Lift one panel and Use the extra to replace the the one lifted and sift the material onto the new one and repeat until satisfied with results. Its a good way to find the eggs.

I got emotional because I own two cats myself so it’s hard to think of losing them one day, I tend to get emotional whenever I heard a cat hurt or dead since they hold a special place in my heart.

I've given over 48 hours for my emotions to level out after watching this video. I've followed you for a while and enjoyed the journey until 2 days ago....but after the suffering and woeful neglect of an obviously hurting pet, I cant. It's one thing to raise your food, but an animal that is a pet and ALLOWED... YOUR CHOICE!... ALLOWED to linger is such a state for HOURS on end is inhumane!!! Why didnt you take the cat for euthanasia to shorten the protracted suffering? It's not like the poor darling could take herself to the vet and begged to be put out of her (incurable?) extream SUFFERING! It's not in me to be one of the crazy people to say I hope something similar happens to you or a family member, because I dont. But I do hope you will be better caregivers in the future with a mind to how you'd like to be treated if you were in their situation. If you are going to responsibly husband these animals that means more than a warm blanket if they are hurt.... it means shortening all suffering if possible. 7 I'm unsubscribing, but I hope you will take these words to heart and be better caretakers of your animals/furbabies/charges.
