The moisture will account for a good portion of that weight, so it doesn't really compare at 1:1 with the exact same weight of dry feed.

Definitely does - great point! Should have specified that he’s using 300 lbs dry. So our pickup is probably a little more. I don’t weigh it when I feed. Just got the weight of a few buckets full to make sure I was giving enough daily.

Done homebrew. It can get kinda gross, but the bugs are just more protein. You can put it on plastic and dry it in the sun.

That is a good idea! May end up being more of a burden but might just experiment with it to see if I can make it last a little longer.

Those pigs won’t be ready to process till around 18! Months old. They won’t be a market weight. The AGH stunts the growth remarkably.

We will see. Definitely know it’ll be longer than most. This is our 2nd litter so doing things a little different this time around. Also thought about potentially taking the ones with more of the Hampshire genetics and selectively breeding them. Worst case I switch it up completely but that’s the beauty of doing it for yourself and learning

I used to raise piglets for customers and also to finish off. I would suggest of raising for yourself to go with crosses that don’t have the show growing genetics. I would never breed a hamp that had any AGH in it, the agh will slow down the growth. I am a big fan of the berks, they have amazing meat quality and were not crazy pigs for us. There is nothing wrong with the brewers grain but making sure that still get a balanced diet with the grower mix is essential to the proper growth of your animals.

Appreciate the feedback! I hear a lot of really good things about berks as well. If i end up switching it up at some point I’d strongly consider going that direction. Very interesting to see the difference in characteristics of our cross as our boar is very large like a hamp and sow is relatively on the smaller side.
