LOL. Snowed in!!! As someone who grew up in Maine in The County where snowstorm were measured in feet rather than inches, people today just lose it over 2-4 inches of snow. Maine hasn't seen a real Nor'easter that produces that amount of snow in decades. Doubtful we will ever see it again in my lifetime as it seems winters in Maine are extremely tame nowadays.
@marychristensen425410 күн бұрын
If you get one of those big black sleds from the farm stores you can put 4-5 big buckets full of water in it and sled around to the various animals. Also, fill the sled with the ice and dump it one time instead of so many trips. I lived off grid in Montana for many years and learned this trick. ❤

Horses don't always like cold water we used heaters that came up from the bottom. The harsh winters was why we left Maine. We had two storms back to back and the prep work that was needed just to get through the winters. As you get older it becomes very difficult. Good luck but maybe we will come visit in the summer which is only three -4 months long ha

Your work ethic is something to behold. I just read how in Farmer Boy, Almanzo’s dad had to wake up in the middle of the night to run the young cows (I think) in -40 degree temp so they wouldn’t freeze to death. My grandparents were farmers in Quebec, so all of this makes me think of how life was for them, and my parents growing up that way. 🥰

We owned an 1840 cape on 53 acres our nearest neighbors were 1/2 mile away. One December we lost power for 13 days. The house had a spring that ran into the basement from the first house built there in 1784. Like you we heated with wood and during those two weeks we lighted our world with oil lamps. Our spring provided water for ourselves and many friends in our area who were also without power. Those early settlers knew how to survive the harsh climate of NH we lived in. We sold that property to a neighbor and moved to another old farmhouse in the far north of NH. Enjoy your adventure in Maine.

Hi Jenny! Oh how beautiful is the undisturbed snow!❄ It looks so peaceful! Your home looks gorgeous sitting there, like a professional photo in a magazine! Oh Jenny yesss!! More videos would be awesome! I'd love it!❤ Sadly, here in south Florida, the Tampa area, its just been cold & rainy.. although the NW areas like Tallahassee & Pensacola actually got a few inches of snow! But it has been cold enough here to wear coats & beanies, so we did have one week if winter🫤 Warming back up starting tomorrow & next week will be back in the mid to upper 70's😕 Aww the babies look like they're enjoying the snow!🐶 Walter is getting so big.. he's getting so tall! I remember last year, we were still living in Tennessee, it was the week before Christmas and we had a really brutal week! There were A few evenings it got to -6° and the days started below 10°🥶 The reins coming from the upper mountains would almost cut thru you. We lived pretty high up & it was tough when the winds got strong in the winter time. Oh Ok.. Walter is getting very smart & obedient too huh?! Good boy!🐶 Jenny those animals are very we taken care of, that's obvious! It shouldn't matter HOW they get water when its that cold or how the ice goes away.. its done & that's all that matters! Of course I hate you guys have to do it the old fashion way, its so cool & so much work. Bhutan I commend you, first of all for saving these precious animals and fit taking care of them 7 day a week, 365 days a year! They're healthy & happy & loved! It's awesome that you guys do this!!❤ People don't think about the financial part! A happy horse & a happy Matt😊 lol I'm sure it looks like i jump from one thing to the next, babur i type as I'm watching.. Or by the end I'll have forgotten something!😂 Wheww with all those rabbits if they weren't fixed that property would soon be taken over by rabbits!😂 Jenny I really enjoyed today's video! Seeing how you guys take care of the animals & me things work.I pray that everything continues to go well for you guys & that dinner rather than later, you'll have all the things needed to make life much easier & simpler fit you & Matt! See you guys soon.. God bless!🙏🏻

I just found your channel. Welcome to Maine. I look forward to getting to know you both through your channel. Had rabbits and ducks and chickens as a child in an Old farmhouse Not as beautiful as yours but was a perfect place for me to grow up. Your barn is also beautiful. Seems snow here in Maine comes later now , March and into April depending on how far north you are. Has been a bit of a cold winter thus far.

It is very cold up here in Southern Ontario 🇨🇦 too but with a lot more snow! Enjoy watching you Restore your beautiful farm. You have so many beautiful buildings to explore and find uses for them . What is the purpose of the small barn -like structures with the open sides? Is that horse shelters even in the cold winter?
@1807FarmhouseDiaries10 күн бұрын
Those are run-ins! The horses use them when they want. They live a very natural life here and have warm winter coats to keep them snug.
