Well, I'm one of the 30 year Feds. 4 years Active Duty USN, then 26 years as an Elevator Inspector (think aircraft elevators on carriers,, etc) Fed Civil Service. Combined into a 30 year career, and retired in 2011. No student loans (never went to college), no car loans (paid cash), house paid off early ( extra paid on principle each month), no kids. Agreed that there is a lot of bloat in the upper levels and in duplicated offices. Used to love going to work and helping the sailors fix their stuff, but then the "bean counters" entered the picture and hosed EVERYTHING. Couldn't WAIT to finish my 30 and bail. Moved out of California and went to Oregon, where I cut my own firewood, blow my own snow off my 1 acre, and am just lovin' life. Great channel - keep up the good work.

I had to go to the DMV (dept of motor vehicles) to register my used boat. Turns out the dealer for the original seller put in the incorrect length. When I asked them (DMV) to change it they told me I had to go the DNR (dept of Natural Resources) to have it corrected. Why do we need two different gov’t departments to handle such a simple thing!

They cant believe what he is doing...... if they paid attention to what he promised in his campaign they would realize he is just following through in his promises unlike the typical politician. We need these 4 years to make these corrections, weed out the wasteful spending, fire the dead wood ect. Then another likeminded republican to carry on another 8 years to truly make the changes we need. Protect our country, bring industry back, reduce taxes to make life affordable again. 6/23 Dave Ramsey, a Christian radio host and personal finance guru, faces a $150 million lawsuit filed by some listeners of his show who allege they were defrauded by a timeshare exit company that advertised on his program. The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington in April, claims Ramsey received more than $30 million between 2015 to 2021 to promote Timeshare Exit Team on The Ramsey Show. The complaint also alleges Ramsey promoted "deceptive, false and incomplete information," in violation of consumer protection laws, while personally earning $450,000 a month from the deal. 6/22 Dave Ramsey’s company settled a lawsuit that alleged the Franklin corporation pressured an employee to resign after the employee came out as a lesbian. The $76,900 settlement between Ramsey Solutions and Julie Anne Stamps concludes one of three federal lawsuits that former employees filed in recent years. The lawsuits, in concert with other former employees speaking out, have raised questions about workplace practices and policies at the for-profit company headed by Ramsey, a finance guru, host of a nationally syndicated radio show and a conservative evangelical Christian figure. 4/21 Ramsey Solutions said in a March 8 court filing that it has fired at least eight employees for engaging in premarital sex in the past five years in addition to O’Connor, and most of them were "not pregnant" at the time; five of them were men, the company said. The company operates an array of Ramsey’s personal finance products, including his nationally syndicated radio show “The Ramsey Show” and financial coaching services. Ramsey Solutions employs more than 900 “team members,” according to its website. From a sane Canadian here, I will keep supporting and watching your show based on the person you are and the way you treat people. Please remember 25% of our population works directly for one form of government so odds are they don’t like what’s going on down south and cannot separate emotion from logic. We have elections pending and happening here and those players are trying to sway some form of patriotic rhetoric to gain politically. I do have reservations on the actual intent of your president, but he has done more to support the majority of Canadians wishes to clean up our border and highlight our lacking national security issues than anyone in our political system here. Saner heads will hopefully prevail and we can actually work together to thrive together. Yes we have a dairy cartel here and hopefully we can trade this freely because it’s not our farmers making the money.

Keep it up Mike. I worked for a defense contractor for +35 years until Biden's vaccine EO. Many of my colleagues had similar length careers while the military people came and went and the gov civilians were mostly useless. That meant we had the institutional knowledge and experience. Half our job was trying to keep the government from making the same mistakes over and over again. Now it didn't always work and we sometimes came up with new mistakes, but hey, we tried. While the defense side of the government was bloated and slow, my sense was that many other areas were orders of magnitude worse. Sadly, my former employer has gone downhill greatly too; driving out many staff with +10 years experience and becoming highly politically connected with the previous administration, They're in for a rough ride now, as they should be.

One of the things that got under my skin was the way middle management types treated new young employees, especially those on work experience from universities whether a small specialised company or a conglomerate. Kids with exceptional talent, quick to learn (ie you know the sort you only have to explain something once) or had brilliant suggestions coming from intellect or just plain fresh eyes, were quite often put down or passive aggressively bullied. Some were even blamed for the incompetence of their manager/mentor. Or the managers took the credit of those they were mentoring. I often wondered whether these youngsters made it in their chosen careers or were they forever adversely affected by the cruel treatment in their first jobs. There’s some nasty people around. And I see them now putting down some of America’s brightest and best, keen and willing young people starting out on their journey in the wilds of work. The type that made America great. Some folk are so bitter, twisted, deceptive, arrogant and jealous, they just can’t help but put anyone better than them down. Agree with you, Mike. It has to be this way.

Mike, I was a Captain in the Fire Department and retired 3 years ago after 37 years. Your comments on people not living in the "real world" are spot on. I realize the morale is low and there are management issues and things are not perfect by any stretch in my former department (I work there part time now). But I worked at a steel company prior to the fire dept and punched a clock. Job security was non existent because it was based on sales people doing their jobs for us to have work to do; the economy dictating that work being needed; ownership reputation; etc. In my department you really had to screw up bad to get fired, work 25 years and get a pension, paid vacation and holidays, and the list goes on. And yet we have people leave all the time for the uncertainty of the private sector. I guess it comes down to individuals thinking for themselves and taking responsibility for their own actions. Unfortunately that attitude is in short supply in this country because we have become so dependant on the government. Not a good thing in my opinion. I could go on but - rant over. Long time viewer - close to the beginning - and love the channel. Ignore the histrionic and keep doing your thing. But you already know that. 😂

Many sticks in the US products are stick from Canada, where that company gets there wood from Queensland for little of nothing and the company is subsidized by the government to keep jobs in there area where there are few jobs. They are selling sticks in the US under our cost. So a tariff on this type of product would level the playing field.

Right with you Mike... several of my school friends are making posts about they are fearful for our country etc... all bad about Trump... and if you say anything they JUMP all over you... I am fed up and 70+ million others evidently were fed up also. I am retired and it is tough with inflation. But this needs to be done NOW. I told two guys last night at dinner that all they are doing with the government is what happens when a business is improperly managed. Cuts have to be made. I owned a mfg agency and sold on commission for small companies . Contracts read termination with 30 days written notice by either party. Some I gave up, but most were lost when a new sales manager or owner came in. Same old story no changes. Us older guys just laughed and said wait one year and the changes will begin and in every case it happened this way. I had only one job with a salary and lost it when the plant closed down. It was then I started my sales agency! Never again would someone else tell me what they thought I was worth. Let my own actions prove themselves in the size of my pay check. sorry for the ramble. oh I am 76 years old and thinking of getting a side hustle.. we need to take care of ourselves.

I worked for the federal government for 30 years. During the Clinton administration, 30 percent of the workforce in my agency was either laid off, quit, or forced to retire. Fortunately, I wasn’t one of them. The point I’m making is that this is not the first time this has happened and, probably won’t be the last. Unfortunately, as new administrations get into office, they tend to hire more and more people which bloats the budget. When a fiscally responsible president is elected, he/she will need to lay employees off. When I was working, there were 1 million employees. It’s my understanding that there is 2 million now.

Alberta here. I will continue watching your channel, it has good content and a lot of common sense. A few thoughts. 1) Canada does not have 10,000 troops of any kind. 2) Tariffs (taxes) are paid by the companies that import the goods and that cost is passed on to their customers. 3) 30 States have Canada as their main trading partner in dollar figures, that is commerce in both directions. 4) The current trade agreement (USMCA) came into effect on July 1, 2020 was signed by Donald Trump and his quote upon signing it was, "Today we are finally ending the NAFTA nightmare," Mr Trump said calling the new trade deal a colossal victory for farmers, factory workers and other countries." 5) Canada already had countervailing tariffs of 25% lined up to apply to US goods imported into our country should the US apply theirs. 6) Tariffs will not fix anything wrong with the US Federal Government. 7) It will be the citizens of Canada and the US who will pay for this nonsence. Our leaders need to grow up. And those are my thoughts. Have a safe day.

I don't necessarily agree with most aspects of the tariff plan by the President. I think its just a way to get parties to the negotiating table (of course way over the top). He probably worked with Canada first and will resolve quickly and be an example to the other countries. It is telling how quickly the tariffs were put on hold. Everything should work out for our two Countries.

Yes, I am from CANADA. Just to set the stage, I have been following your channel for many years and have lots of respect for Melissa and you…for your entire hard-working family. I like to listen to your reasoning on many topics. While I don’t always agree, I respect your positions. As for your political choice (and the country’s choice) in your last election, I don’t agree but I respect the fact that it was a democratic choice. It is not difficult to see that your president has a busy agenda. I understand that he wants to bring back many jobs to the USA. However, I cannot understand how he expects to make it work. In one of his first speech, he stated ‘’Canada and the USA, that would really be something….’’. Just a few weeks ago, that is exactly what we had. Canada and the USA were like fingers of a hand, working together to make great things happen. This is a relationship built over decades. Part of this was done thanks to agreements signed between countries, such as the Canada/USA/Mexico agreement, an agreement that Trump signed himself and actually called one of the greatest deal he had done. However, by the actions (tariffs) he has taken this week (still hanging for next month), he essentially tore up a perfectly legal document as well as break international trade laws. In doing that he has put in peril jobs and livelihood for many on both side of the border (up to 600,000 jobs in Ontario and Quebec alone). He claims that the tariffs are to pressure our government to stem the flow of fentanyl int the USA. USA Federal statistics show US border authorities seized 21,889 pounds of fentanyl in the 2024 fiscal year. Of that amount, only 43 pounds were seized at the Canadian border - about 0.2% - compared with 21,148 pounds at the Mexican border, about 96.6%. Most of it being smuggled by US citizens. I am not even going to go into the amount of cocaine and guns coming into Canda from the USA. To me, Fentanyl from the Canadian side is just a pretext for Trump to continue on his agenda. President Trump lacks respect to everyone. He does not respect our Prime Minister Trudeau or any other official that does not agree with his plans. He keeps calling Mr Trudeau, Governor. Done once in private as a joke might have passed but publicly and repeatedly is not acceptable. He does not respect our sovereignty by calling us the 51st state (not going to happen), by threatening to retake the Panama Canal and Greenland. In that fashion, he is acting in a very similar fashion as Putin. OK, I’ve got to stop rambling away. If we simply go on the subject of bringing back jobs to the USA. As a businessman yourself, would you want to invest millions/billions of dollars in a place/country where you cannot rely on the rule of law being followed, on contracts not being honored, on a volatile environment with a leader who likes to create chaos to destabilize others and who has no clear guideline on which you could draw-up your business plan. That is just the business side. Also, I personally would not want to enter any agreement with someone who cannot carry-out a polite, respectful conversation, who will only surround himself with people with his exact same vision because he just does not want to be challenged. I steer away from people who lie repeatedly and backstab. While I agree that we should let people protest in a calm manner, I have no respect for someone who would pardon rioters who attacked, injured and killed police officers with the ultimate goal of overthrowing a democratically voted government. Submitted with respect but hoping that your president backpedals for the good of Americans and Canadians

When I was a kid, I learned that the only way to work is to own your own business. At 17, my parents signed for a new snow plow truck that cost as much as a new Corvette. They believed in me enough to do that. Winter came, and there was zero snow for me to plow. I was sick knowing I let my parents down. I had plenty of contracts, but there was just no snow. Well, it finally snowed, and I worked for three days straight, only taking naps in a snow-covered parking lot with my head on the steering wheel. After it was over, I walked into my home, and my mom and dad were having coffee. I had cash In every pocket, and I unloaded it on the kitchen table. There was enough there to pay off the loan for the truck. My dad was a union welder and made $2.35 an hour. I was making $100.00 for a 10-minute parking lot clean. That taught me to never work for anyone my entire life. If the government played games with pricing, I would raise my prices for my customers. The government never affected me because I was in charge of my destiny, not some boss above me.

We decided that we would live within our means, we knew what we had to have to live, we wanted to pay ourselves 20% after we covered our NEEDS. Our income for WANTS was put in a saving account. We saved for a car (I saved while in the Navy so I could purchase a car) we had to rent until we had enough money to have a down payment for our first home. It took four years and $14,000 dept to pay off. We still have savings that we have for emergencies and we never relied on credit cards for anything. We have been married for Fifty- Nine years, we don't have the very best but at the same time don't have debt...

Not to change the comment subject but when the your camera was panning around I noticed rust on the floor of the conveyor. Recently I came across a neat trick to help avoid rust. Use food grade phosphoric acid 85% with a dash of rubbing alcohol as a dispersant, put in a spray bottle and shoot the rust. Over night it will turn your rust to a black coating that will help to prevent rust. It works really good. I now use it on all my cars for nuts and bolts, frame, exhaust pipes and mufflers, anything that has rust. Its a lot cheaper than the store bought rust treatment and its food grade. Just a thought. Ounce of prevention.

Negotiating with Trump is like playing chess with a pigeon. He knocks over the pieces, shits on the board, and struts around claiming he won anyway and his supporters will swallow it raw. Regardless of what pressure is put on the governments in the EU, it is the consumers who decide which goods are bought and it is not the European governments. Tariffs do not make consumers buy American cars that are of inferior quality, are too big for European roads and are too energy-consuming. Not many will want to buy foods that are potentially harmful to health with high content of toxic additives and which result in people getting diabetes and not many want GMOs in their food The Europeans are better used to healthy food products than the Americans and there will not be large sales of imported food regardless of tariffs. What will happen in the future, as we now see that the US is an adversary instead of an ally, is that arms production in the rest of NATO/EU will be greatly increased, resulting in arms purchases in the US being greatly reduced. The threats of tariffs and the takeover of Greenland have damaged the relationship between the EU and the US for decades, and unfortunately for the US, it is you who will lose out in the long run. A shame cause since WW2 it has been an ok cooperation even though the USA has made a lot of money from arms sales (jobs) and has controlled NATO (again more jobs), in the future there will be changes and maybe even result in the dissolution of NATO, sorry for the bad predictions, but it will happen and that is what everyone is talking about here in Europe. You have shot yourselves in the foot and will be without friends

As a Canadian, I appreciate your honest content. I'm curious about American perspectives on the current tariffs and their potential impact on both our countries. Here in Canada, our politicians often emphasize our shared history, from fighting alongside each other in World War II to Canada's support after 9/11 and our involvement in Afghanistan. Given this close relationship, I've wondered what Americans think about the idea of Canada becoming the 51st state. While I recognize the significant differences in our systems (banking, mortgages, healthcare, etc.) make this seem practically impossible, I'm still interested in exploring the concept. Keep up the great work Mike!

I am the same age as you and since I left the military in 1998 I have mostly worked "for" or "with" the government as a contractor. I got laid off a few times mostly due to contracts expiring. Fortunately for me I was well known in our community of work, so I never went more than a week or two without a job. I saw so much wasteful spending by the government that I couldn't even list it all, but here are a couple of examples. The military works on a "use it or lose it" budgeting system. When the fiscal quarter was about to end I witnessed airplanes take off from Cecil Field in Jacksonville, Fl. and fly down to Key West just to do a couple of touch-and-goes then fly back just to burn fuel. I had aircrew on another certain aircraft platform talking about flying from Jacksonville, Fl. to Brunswick, Maine just to have lunch and fly back just to burn fuel and add hours to the aircraft (which requires routine maintenance after a certain amount of flight hours). As I said, the budgeting was on a "use it or lose it" kind of system so say a squadron has a budget of say $500,000.00 per quarter, if they only used say $400,000.00 of it they would lose $100,000.00 in the next quarter. That gave them the incentive to make unnecessary flights just to burn fuel and hours on the aircraft just to use all of their budget up.

100% agree with everything you said... as usual. On the work, as a contractor I worked myself out of jobs for basically 30 years. My wife in private sector, went from front line worker to executive with 14 buyouts and closures of the various companies over 25 years. We have really reinforced with our children that a job is a temp position and be prepared for what may come. Gather experience and skills and prepare to move on, either by choice or by force. It is important to gain experience to prepare than it is to settle and be in a job for x number of years. Period. Because, when you have experience and skills you will land. Unfortunately, if you have been in a position for a long time and are not held to account or encouraged to gather skills, like more than a few in the federal workforce or even large private organizations, it IS going to be much harder to move on from an eliminated position. There is no more work for a company 40 years and retire, it's on you not your employer to take care of you, as it should be. Good Stuff I really appreciate the effort you put into the videos! Always makes my day.

Morning Mike, Another Canadian here and I love your channel and your content. You have a right to your opinion and so do I, but if we do not chat about these issues we will never get anywhere with any success. I can tell you that the Republican party would have never put tariff's on, if our "kind of in power government" would have dealt with this board issue almost 9 plus years ago. Yet here we are, deeper in debt and now JT thinks this is important. Like you American's needed a government change, so do we. If we all did our part (Canada, USA and Mexico) we wouldn't have all of these problems. And yes like you say, I am not a political person as well. Thanks as always, Mike!!

I know what you mean by HR and cleaning house, I worked for a well servicing company, in 2015 , 430 employees were let go , the facility was closed, they had a convoy of HR that physically escorted us to our vehicles and watched us leave the premises.

I’m Canadian and I are people are living beyond their means and governments are operating without any consequences of rising debt. Government bureaucracy is killing trade on both sides of the border. It’s time for a change. And both countries need to negotiate. The thing I’m having a problem with is this 51st state joke. It was maybe funny the first or second time it was said. Now it’s offensive. I don’t want to be the 51st state anymore than you want to become the 11th province. I think when trump stays fixated on this it is not helping. I think both countries can sit down and work this out

Take milk, for instance. Within quota, the tariff is 7.5%. Over-quota milk faces a 241% tariff. Other over-quota rates include blended dairy powder at 270%. Duties rise to as high as 314% for other products, according to data from the World Trade Organization. Canadian officials argue that all countries subsidize dairy, including the U.S. -- Canada essentially does so indirectly by closing its borders and capping production. If you’ve got a slice of the quota, though, the tariffs don’t apply. And Canada has given up slices of its market in trade talks. (Including in the Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal that Trump quit.)
