Hey everyone, Jesse here. I think I missed the mark on explaining something in the video so I wanted to clear it up here. This is the biggest step we've ever taken and we need to give it everything we've got. But we are not putting our content behind a paywall. For years now, we've been posting free content on KZbin and IG / FB; along with exclusive content on Patreon - all of which takes a ton of time, energy, and resources. So for a temporary period, we're simply putting a pause on our free content while keeping our Patreon going as it has been. My goal with this video was to invite you to come along for the journey, but if you’re not able to, I COMPLETELY understand. We'll see you soon and we'll absolutely share what we learn during this period! 🤘🏻 J.

I don't feel like you missed the mark at all! Makes total sense, but thanks for elaborating for anyone who might've misunderstood!

I'm not familiar with your Patreon content, so as a casual YT follower hearing "we're stopping 'free' content, but posting more than ever on Patreon!" seems... confusing at best. But, if your Patreon content is cell phone updates and things like that - then great, I think that makes sense. Maybe that is the disconnect. Anyways, congrats on the equipment, and I'm sure I'll watch your YT vids again when they resume.

I do genuinely hope you succeed at what you're trying to do, but I'm hopeful that you understand why your announcement has left a bad taste in our mouths. It's not that your content is all moving behind a paywall temporarily, which we could easily understand, but that you're not willing to admit that it is. It seems dishonest to frame this as "going dark".

I sincerely hope this works out for you. At the same time, I can't help but think keeping people in the dark while you are making your biggest steps forward might be counter-productive. I was one of those folks who was clicking refresh the day the Inner Core was launched because I believed in what you were doing. The only reason I was that committed was because I was able to be invested in your progress and vision. I know you said explicitly this wasn't a case where you were saying you were going dark and then would post again in a week or two, but I hope you will reconsider... especially considering you will already have content available for your patreon folks.

@LakeDownz9 ай бұрын
Really enjoy your videos and the effort that goes into them, and love your mission. It's a crucial one, no doubt about it. But this "going dark" thing isn't the move. Trash Panda and its cause needs all the attention and exposure it can get. The time and effort spent creating these great videos is the cost of making people notice, follow and become engaged. Telling a story while also selling people on an idea. I'd never even thought of recycled discs until I found your channel, and now I follow the journey closely. "Free content" is a relative term here since your viewers buy your discs, watch ads and spend their time watching and engaging. It feels bad being left in the dark when we know you could post the occasional short update, since you're doing it elsewhere. I really hope you can hype people up again in 2-3 months or however long this work will take. Anyways, I sincerely wish you good luck with the new machine!
@jasonrleeVideo9 ай бұрын
I applaud the effort over the years and the successful products. I understand the business decision here. But even if you "go dark" I hope you still have a plan to document the development and learning process even if you can't share it until many months from now. I was drawn to this channel by a guy trying to make something from nothing out of his garage. The successes, failures, and learning moments were your best content. If content has to be delayed no worries. But it would be a huge missed opportunity to not capture that learning process in the coming months and share it freely down the road. The journey is just as valuable to us as the destination. Even if its delayed don't hide the journey.

I work in plastic injection molding for (Mostly) RVs. That being said I love the process, learning about problems and solutions, the ways different plastics work (never knew you had to dry certain plastics until 4 years ago). Now with all of that love for this industry that i have, the main thing that upsets me is the the one way ticket that is plastics. Raw material to product, product to consumer, consumer to landfill. and the amount of waste is astronomical just from the plant. So I dont see just a guy working for a simple dream to make recycled discs. I see a dedicated man making the first stepping stone for the whole industry. First recycle a disc, then the world. Youve proven it is possible, and i am happy to be both a patron and to help hang on that lever for years to come. You are a true inspiration.

@cliffphotographs9 ай бұрын
This is a very interesting video… If there’s any confusion on Trash Panda’s end as a company regarding why this doesn’t sit well with most consumers: I think the problem with the whole thing is that the *choice* of “going nocturnal” genuinely seems pointless. It doesn’t make logical sense. In my mind and as an average disc golfer, Trash Panda doesn’t post on KZbin very often in the first place. There is an occasional video updating us on random different stuff. So coming from the consumer perspective, I feel like I’m hearing “Okay so *we won’t be able to* make any of our normal free content because we need to focus ONE HUNDRED PERCENT OF OUR EFFORTS on figuring out this injection molding machine thing, but if you want to support our patreon we’ll STILL be posting on there WEEKLY AND MORE THAN EVER BEFORE as if nothing ever happened to distract our time, energy, and talent elsewhere in the first place.” *There is obviously still time, energy, and focus being given to those who are paying for it.* So in reality, the burden of creating content isn’t really changing at all. You’re redirecting whatever little effort that was coming to KZbin, all over to patreon behind a paywall. TP as a company is choosing to do that. My problem is that it doesn’t take THAT much effort to make one video a month updating the world for free, while still doing your normal paid patreon content. We can understand saying “overall social media interaction is going to be reduced.” We don’t understand “free content is pausing temporarily, paid content is increasing - because we need to focus.” I hope that is being made loud and clear, and TP learns from this. Genuinely not trying to be a hater. I’ve enjoyed following Trash Panda for the last couple of years, but this channel can come across as over-dramatic when it hyper focuses on different developments like this. The significance feels exaggerated to the average person. Obviously this has never been done before in terms of recycled discs. We get it. But if so many other disc manufacturers have figured out injection molding, there’s no reason TP can’t.
@TrashPandaDiscGolf9 ай бұрын
@cliffphotographs your comment is extremely well spoken and doesn't read like a "hater" at all. You and many others were left feeling this way from the video and for that I am truly sorry. If I could go back and offer more insight into the logistics involved in creating public content versus patreon content - which is designed to be more raw, lower lift, bts style - I absolutely would. As always, hindsight is 20/20 and I greatly appreciate your thoughtful comment for helping me understand and learn from this video. -Jesse

I understand your thoughts on taking time to learn the new equipment. I think the posting more then ever on patreon is not the way to go. You need to look at the “free” mediums as advertising. They aren’t free. Think of them as a cost (time) invested by your company. I purchased the Trash Panda discs that I have because even more so than in the goal of a sustainable sport, I saw your passion for this goal and wanted to support “you”. Without the videos I have a feeling that there will be a lot of people (disc buying customers) that will be less emotionally invested in your product. I guess I just wanted to remind you not to think of the KZbin and socials as something you’re giving people for free but instead as a marketing and advertising business expense. Finally I wanted to point out something: If your goal is to reduce plastic waste, the top patreon perk of a disc every month doesn’t make sense. I just feel that the majority don’t need or will not be throwing them so even recycled/recyclable that actually might be increasing the amount of unused plastic out there. Best of luck to the future of Trash Panda

MVP has revolutionized disc golf with the overmold technology. Maybe you could get down with that with your discs. That isn’t moving free videos behind a paywall, it’s leaving the existing videos they’ve been doing behind a paywall and stopping the free content monetarily. The content posted to Patreon is much less scripted and more behind the scenes talks and sneak peeks, and therefore probably requires less editing and time for uploading

@@RettHill You're right, TP can and SHOULD do as they please or see fit for their business. I'm personally expressing a little disappointment, call it entitlement if you want. Here's some context: Jesse's approach to growing his business heavily focuses on his storytelling and he's said as much on LinkedIn. He literally calls TP a Story Brand and he's made his fan base a part of it from the very beginning, making sure to be open, transparent and inclusive. TP's story is truly exploding on the dg scene, especially now as they are finally getting into proper manufacturing. Acquiring injection molding technology is an inflection point in the story, a MASSIVE plot twist which will significantly impact the future of disc golf if they are successful. Having the door shut at this exact moment can feel like having a few chapters redacted from an amazing book or movie your are currently invested in. Except the story is real life and is the literal setting of a milestone in disc golf history, especially in today's climate crisis. Lots of us are really invested into this story and have been actively following the journey with whatever means we have access to. For some, it's free content on social media. For others, it's through a paid platform like Patreon. It sucks, as a fan, to be sidelined because I can't afford Patreon or have to prioritize other paid subscriptions for my career and personal growth. I'd love to watch this story unfold in real time instead of on Netflix in 15 years.
