Thanks for the cool reaction! Beyond the lyrics and the great sets, there's another layer of meaning and symbolism here that is often missed. As you may have guessed from the Trojan Horses at the end, with the earth map behind them, this video draws a lot from Greek mythology. For example in the first scene of Rosé, we're seeing references to the myth of Persephone and Hades and the myths about the seasons, dying and rebirth. (The seasons motif is repeated with the summer "How You Like That" scene and the winter "How You Like That" scene.) Jisoo in red on the white spider legs may also represent the myth of Arachne, with the odd white legs of the chair she's sitting on representing spider's legs. The wings of Nike (Goddess of Victory) are represented in the penultimate scene where each of the Blackpink members stands in front of the wings to represent that they are returning in triumph from the ashes of previous defeat. (This is followed by a humorous reference to the opening lines of the Superman TV show from the 1950s..."Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! No....It's Superman!!!"). The end of course shows them in front of the Trojan Horses (representing Kpop as the vehicle they used as a means of stealthy conveyance?), having successfully exited the Trojan Horses and now entering onto the world stage as who they really are.

Really enjoy seeing you guys fall into the K-Pop rabbit hole. I, too, was introduced to K-Pop because of Blackpink. I am a HUGE fan, and love seeing those K-Pop misconceptions disappear one (or two) new fans at a time. I am also a HUGE fan of BTS (I am what they call an ARMY-BLINK) referring to their respective fandoms. If you are amazed at the overwhelming talent of these 4 ladies, you will be equally amazed to discover BTS. I suggest you start with "Mic Drop, the Steve Aoki remix). You will not be disappointed. The BTS Army will soon follow just like the Blackpink Blinks did. Note: these 2 fandoms generally don't "get along", but ignore that. It's about bringing awareness to this genre of music and give it the RESPECT it deserves. Enjoy the ride!

Their music videos are impressive and have a lot of meaning as well! This song is about Kpop taking over the world, Blackpink wanted to introduce their music in US charts with this single. The music video starts with the statue of Niké, the goddess of victory, and Lisa saying "Blackpink in your area", like they arrived to conquer our country/music industry. The chorus says "how you like that?/ You gonna like that". At the end, Rosé sings "you should have ended me when you get the chance" which I think it means that we all had kpop underrated and we didn't saw Blackpink sucess coming. Rosé is posing in front of Niké statue like the wings are her own wings, and then the four girls say: "look up to the sky, is a bird? Is a plane?", a famous quote from Superman, like their success is flying to our country. Then we can see the four girls dancing in front of a map (US is the most visible country), and there are 2 Troy horses in the back, referring to the invasion of Troy (again invasion, conquer, the goddess of victory). Blackpink were announcing their success in western countries right before it happened!

Some recommendations of them! Whistle, Kill this Love, LoveSick Girls, Playing With Fire. (These all have a music video with subtitles) Pretty Savage, Love to Hate me, See you Later, Crazy Over You, Forever Young. (These are b-sides and do not have a music video but should totally watch the lyric videos) You should check out their dance practices Also check out their live performances, they are out of this world as they have their own band that travels with them. Brings their songs more to life than usual.

Love your reactions. Blackpink lyrics will often have nonsensical words ( dudu dudu, ratata ratata, doom doom) as it let's international audiences sing along. The dance practice to this song (How You Like That) has more views than the music video and is the most viewed K-pop dance practice ever! The dance practice video records about 600000 views a day and exceeds a billion views.

Love to see you guys diving head first into this band, they dont have much songs, but every one of them are top quality. Eric should listen to Dududu the Japanese version, because Lisa and Jennie raps in english and as an hip hop head youre gonna like what Lisa says in her verse on that. lol. Also If you want to switch it up a bit, i recommend checking out some of their live concerts. This one: "BLACKPINK - 'SOLO' + '뚜두뚜두(DDU-DU DDU-DU)' + 'FOREVER YOUNG' in 2018 SBS Gayodaejun" and this one: "BLACKPINK - 'Kill This Love' Live at Coachella 2019" are must sees.

You guys are great! 😀. I’ll keep saying it…. Watch live versions from their virtual concert during 2020 pandemic called “The Show”. Live band with them and added a lot of electric guitar. Try that live version from that show for “d du d du du” and “How you Like That”. You wont be disappointed. Yeah they are the whole package…. Talent, voices, beauty, swag, dancing, and the insane production value of their live set videos. By the way, their new full album “Born Pink” comes out on Sept 16 followed by a World Tour including 7-8 shows in US! Rumor is the new album will have a “explicit parental warning” label which is unheard of for K-Pop. The “girls” are ladies now and they are coming out kicking ass and taking names!

Note: if you do their debut MVs from 2016 Boombayah and Whistle, just remember that they were just beginning and let's say they were ages 19-21 at this point so what were we doing at that age. lol Also Whistle has some CGI but after that they really been building sets for all their videos, as you can see from their "Making Of" youtube videos of each MV, and when you watch their "Dance Practices" of each of their songs, it adds yet another dimension to see how good they are with choreo. Lastly, they are unbelievable live performers. Watch their DDu-DDu-Du remix live from tokyo dome, in front of 55000 people and their presence, as well as "Kiss and Make Up" at the same concert. Their cover of Miguel's "Sure Thing" live is wonderful too. They are also FOUR ambassadors of high end fashion houses which a lot of videos cover. footnote: BlackPink is a play on their "Black" darker songs and "Pink" lighter tones to show their versatility. As you can imagine they can do a slower song or ballad and kick as on that too. Enjoy the Blackpink revolution. You are lucky to also get their second new album release in less than two weeks. You should have a youtube reaction to their first FULL album called "The Album" and listen to all 8 tracks with their KZbin Lyric videos that show you the lyrics to the songs they haven't made MVs for. Plus they show who's singing to get to know their voices more.

I really like the journey eric went on in the first BP reaction video that took all of about 7 seconds lol. I'm half-korean so I never understood why us Westerners in America had such a weird perception of Kpop ( I've been listening to it almost all my life ) but I really appreciate you being so willing to just admit your bias, that's really huge and I respect that a lot. That being said I'm hearing some common themes in terms of some your guys' interest and while I stan Black Pink, I'd be really interested in you reacting to other Kpop as well. If you want cinematography and visuals, it's just another level in kpop. I don't wanna state the obvious but BTS is like you know the top of the top kpop boy band wise these days and I've seen some requests for them in your comments but I just want to echo to realllllly get a feel for them, to start with NOT their 3 English song lol I love those songs but they're just not representative of the boys' range. AND also I could recommend countless of other kpop groups and artists so if this is something you're into, I'm excited to help with the journey! welcome to the kpop rabbit hole!

With this video, there's a subtle theme of Greek mythology. Persephone, going down to Hades, looking up towards earth. The different changing scenes are different seasons, something to do with Hades permitting her to visit upside. Jisoo in her red dress, sitting on a spider bone chair, etc... People who are into mythology catches so many references.

The one thing that you will always get with majority of kpop videos is great visuals. Their music videos are unmatched! A couple other really good kpop groups that I like. Female groups, “Mamamoo”, “Aespa” (this group is pretty new, almost a year out I think). Then Jessi, she is a rapper, and she sings also in some of her songs, she is Korean but grew up in New Jersey I believe, but she is in South Korea doing music. Male kpop groups I like “NCT 127”, “SuperM”, “Stray Kids” but my favorite is, BTS, their are three songs that they recently made that are all English, “Dynamite”, “Butter”, “Permission to dance” are very pop sounds, the first two were done for fun during COVID-19 lockdown, and last one was at the end of the lock down. They don’t really represent who BTS is musically, the videos were cool, fun and happy, and visuals top notch, but far from what they really do. They don’t really have a genre, they do it all. I noticed that you like lyrics and word play, their three rappers, one in particular RM (that’s his name) is a lyrical genius. I would start off with “Mic Drop”, and “On” Kinect manifesto film. Those two songs have all seven members. The three rappers RM, Suga, and J-hope have cyphers 1-4 (do the color coded lyric), “Outro-Tear”.

Hey guys, probably echoing some other comments, but: *HOW YOU LIKE THAT* is about coming back from a dark place stronger than before. There are many Greek references in the video, a few examples are: The winged statue in the temple represents Nike, Goddess of Victory. Rosé (silver hair), in the beginning, is portraying Persephone, Goddess of Vegetation (plants, flowers) and the daughter of Zeus. One day while she was out gathering flowers, Hades, God of the Underworld, abducted her and dragged her down to the Underworld where she was forced to become his wife. The video shows her in her beautiful image, surrounded by flowers, as well as how she became, dirty and grey, staring up at the world through a hole in the Underworld. She was eventually allowed to return to the surface for part of the year, which is why we have Spring and Summer. Jennie (maroon dress) under the umbrellas is surrounded by dancers, their hands are "spiders", crawling over her face. Directly after this, under the burning umbrellas (they're rotating too, by the way), Jisoo is seated in a chair that is spiderlike in its design. The Trojan Horses at the end are a message from BLACKPINK to the world. They symbolize the fact that BLACKPINK, like the Greeks, will emerge and take over the global music world. If you look at the last scene you will notice that on the inside of the dome it looks like there's an organic growth over parts of the ceiling. It's actually a map of the world that the group is going to dominate.
