Japanese Americans were rounded up and made to live in camps for a time during World War 2. These people were mostly born in the USA and were citizens and there was no evidence that they were acting as spies for Japan.. I don't know if you are familiar with the Star Trek TV and films, but early cast member George Takei was put into these camps with his family when he was just a little boy. Read about it on Wikipedia.
@robclark88892 ай бұрын
You do realize that the U.S. did that because they were concerned about the safety of the Asian Americans due to backlash. Not only that, but how many spies were actually captured while doing that. The true citizens were able to weed out the ones who were against the U.S. They didn’t play. They understood why they were separated and they did everything they could to try and show which side they were on.

As sad as the concept might be, it had purpose. You see the thousands of people marching in the streets, shouting threats and causing trouble? Look at all the violence in the media lately. Most of it because two foreign countries are at war. Now imagine you’re actually at war with one of these countries, how much trouble would these dissidents cause then? Do you want to fight a war in both the foreign country and your own? Do you want your troops to get killed due to a lack of equipment, because the factories that make it or transports that deliver it are sabotaged? Or the enemy knows every move you’re making because of the hundreds of spies relaying information? Do you want to be continually looking over your shoulder, or remove the potential threat? The other reason was their protection. Imagine your father or brother was killed how would you feel about the Japanese kid in your class? You might try to take out your anger and frustration on him. Lots of people were treated badly by ordinary people who were suffering a great amount of loss. There was a lot of anti Japanese and german hate long after the war ended, i saw the effects of it when i was a kid.

@@python27au All of those _would_ be valid points if they were treated with any amount of decency. They were not. If they were "marching in the streets, shouting threats and causing trouble" then yes, I could see some grounds for detainment. The vast majority were not. They took everyone from normal, hardworking men to pregnant women and children, and they were taken from the comfort of their own homes. "The other reason was their protection." is a fat load of propagandist horseshit considering they were mistreated horribly. Unsafe, uninsulated barracks in an area where days could get over 100 degrees and nights could drop below freezing. Extremely unsanitary conditions, poor diet and overcrowding that led to rampant outbreaks of dysentery, typhoid, tuberculosis and more. You can say whatever the fuck you like, but there is absolutely no justification whatsoever for the violation of a person's basic human rights.

Anything that can be taken away is not a right. As for control... We only need to be controlled because we're forced into positions where criminality is necessity, and government is oppressive and cruel. In a society where no one is hungry there would be far less criminal behavior to be controlled. Less hunger means less theft, and less bigotry as there is nothing to blame on any groups. Tension also decreases which cuts down violence and even overall mental health. A society without worry requires no control.

Ethnic Italians & Germans in the US were also interred/concentrated, but nothing in the amount, about 10 times less, compared to the Japanese, simply for the fact it is easier to visually recognize Asians (including Asian stereotypes & prejudice in the US) than others who looked more white & with more European sir names & also harder to differentiate. 09/19/24

The Roman playwright Plautus agreed with Elie in this case; "Lupus homo homini est, quom qualis sit non novit" ~ "The man that is unknown by the other man is not a man, but a wolf." Thomas Hobbes, arguably the first modern conservative truncated it to "Homo homini lupus" ~ "A man to a man, a wolf" and used it to argue that centralised authority (a king) was needed to keep freemen from killing each other over petty issues, and to keep nobles from treating their peasants like pigs. In any case, we probably need to believe that we have something in common with each other- Otherwise, we have no reason to treat each other the same. That's why Carlin is exposing a pretty dangerous truth there. Some people can't seem to find the humanity in others without some kind of authority figure telling them not to.

I find Curtis Yarvin's arguments for monarchy interesting, although I'm not fully convinced. Particularly nepotistic monarchy. Democracy clearly has its faults(e.g. The US government and the easily controlled dogmas/narratives of the masses which cause mass murders of children, sometimes doing this on the side of their supposed enemies according to these narratives). A king or queen that wants their progeny to rule after them is incentivized to not make the lower class so impoverished or subjugated that they revolt and kill off their bloodline. A representative democracy allows for people to lie themselves into positions that make them enormously wealthy at the cost of many children to "protect democracy." They use democracy as a euphemism for the empire's hegemony in order to convince the public that what they're doing is for the Greater Good.

Raising the right hand is a leftover tradition from the past when they used to mark the palms of guilty criminals, often by blade or hot iron, to identify what type of crime a person has committed. The judge would ask for a person to raise their hand to see if they committed a certain crime, think if a witness has been found guilty of perjury, or if the defendant has previously been found guilty of the same crime as the one being adjudicated, then the judge can make rulings during the trial and/or adjust sentencing accordingly.
