Has anyone mentioned that Adrian Belew WAS the lead guitarist with The Talking Heads for the album "Remain In Light" and the following tour, as well as their Tom Tom Club spinoff. He was also with David Bowie ( Lodger & Stage ), And Zappa ( Sheik Yerbouti & Baby Snakes ). Adrian Belew & Tony Levin have teamed up with Steve Vai & Danny Carey from Tool as the band "BEAT", Playing the music of eighties K.C.. They are currently on sale for oct. appearances. See what this music is like live!

Tony Levin is playing the Chapman Stick, really cool and unique stringed instrument, Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew are such different guitarists, Fripp seems so thrilled and amused with Belew's playing, coming up with things he would never think of playing on guitar and Fripp keeps things tight and focused, gives it a nice through line, his playing is so precise and intentional, incredible band of musicians; another interesting thing to notice, Bill Bruford doesn't have any hi-hats on his drums, Fripp doesn't like hi-hats apparently.

I saw that in TV on a Friday (of course), and bought the album on Saturday! The album is Discipline, and you should check it out!

A deep rabbit hole you opened with this group. So many different iterations over 50 years. Some ex-members there (Belew and Levin) are bringing this three record era with Steve Vai and Tool drummer Danny Carey in place of Fripp and Buford.

I was privileged to see King Crimson in this era, and it was so exciting. I also got to see them again twice last year. This period is very new wave meets prog. If you go back to their early work, they were just as experimental then, developing the Prog sound and also influencing what would become metal. Try "21st Century Schizoid Man," "In the Court of the Crimson King," "The Night Watch," and so many others.

Tony was playing a Stick (or as a critic once put it "that godawful bass/sitar/synthesizer-type thing")

Oh no! Quint liked Prog! 😝 Am I a nerd because I know Tony Levin, Adrian Belew and Robert Fripp right off the bat? Probably! 😂

They might find some of Peter Gabriel's live stuff a great introduction to Tony Levin.

KING CRIMSON RULES

From my perspective, there's not one pre-2000 King Crimson recording that isn't worth hearing. Nominally "rock" bands have never ever been better than this, especially if you're into improvisation (their onstage raison d'etre in the 1970s, esp. when David Cross was in the band)

Adrian Belew and Robert Fripp have both played and recorded with Talking Heads. So yes, there’s a Talking Heads influence here. Historically, Crimson is a chameleon, with frequent personnel changes, with emphasis on experimentation, improvisation, and change of direction.Their first album is generally considered to be the beginning of the progressive rock genre. Fripp later rejected the “prog” label. This is Fripp’s band; he has broken up the band at least four times, restarting with a new direction and new people each time. Yes, there are jazz influences, and also classical, New Wave, and world influences as well. They also pioneered metal before it was called “metal.” Active from1969 to 2022, with long periods between different versions. 13 studio albums, but particularly known for live performances.
