The 1st song you reacted is from Wacken Open Air (Germany) in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). Floor has the greatest voice I have ever heard, and I've been around for 79 years. She has ruined me for other singers because they don't measure up to her versatile, powerful and pitch perfect voice. She is the 3rd front-woman for Nightwish so the studio version of this song is a different singer. Floor officially joined in 2013. Tuomas keyboards/founder/composer creates the vast majority of their songs. He is quite poetic so different people will sometimes have different ideas of what the song is all about. He likes that. I hope you continue your Nightwish journey as I have enjoyed your commentary and enthusiasm. 😊🤘

@@lisalynn6498 ​ I usually say the greatest female singer, but I didn't on this comment. I have heard several songs from Dimash and it's for good reason that he is known as the 6-octave man. However, I'm not a fan of male singers that sing a lot in the upper registers. He likes to throw those whistle tones in also even when the song doesn't call for it. He's a great singer, but just not my cup of tea. As for selling a song emotionally and telling a story with gestures and facial features Floor's at the top. She's a High Sensitive Person and that trait shines on through her performances. Plus she can growl and beat him up in a cage match. 😂🤣😂 😊🤘

Hi Eric and Kyle, that was a great patreon request. I remember recommending this to you as well. Nice to watch you reacting to it and liking it! Nightwish is a Finnish band, but their singer, Floor Jansen, is Dutch. She's been with them since 2012 (there have been 2 female singers before her). Floor is an incredible vocalist, one of the best female vocals in metal today. Know that if you listen to the studio version of this song, it will feature a different singer; Tarja Turunen (she was their original singer, 1996 - 2005). Also, even though their albums versions are wonderful, they are at their best live. Always very tight and entertaining. And there are lots of good quality live performances to watch. Nightwish's music is very diverse. They have the epic songs (like the one you've just heard), but there are also the very heavy songs, as well as the more celtic sounding ones for example. If you continue to listen to them, you'll find out. Their songs are compelling, with beautiful compositions and very poetic lyrics, written for the most part by the keyboard player, Tuomas Holopainen. @@Rykerroad hey Eric and Kyle, NW is one of those rare bands that are better Live and with Floor Jansen every song on this Wacken 2013 set list is better & standard setting, I have been to about 100 Live shows in my life and this Wacken 2013 even from a KZbin video is the best I have ever seen. This band and singer would be Mega stars worldwide if they were Americans or even Brits, sadly the N.Americam music/media industry is focused on pop garbage and are either ignorant of this band and singer or arrogantly just ignoring them.

The bass player is also an amazing vocalist and there is over 20yrs of amazing music for you to discover. Live is the best way to watch them, you can see the enjoyment they get from doing it, also the are a whole, there is no one person better or more important than the other, they're all extremely talented musicians. Great reaction. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of around four octaves +. When listening to Floor sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres, and is a Master vocal coach. She often refers to herself as a vocal nerd. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. the studio version was recorded with their first vocalist....Tarja....the Waken concert is their third vocalist....Floor Jansen. The studio version is beautiful....but has a slightly different ending and Tarja is a fully trained Opera soprano. Enjoy.

Tarja is classicaly trained in "Lied", not opera. The difference is that "Lied" is classical singing with a small ensemble like a chamber orchestra, but opera is with a full orchestra. In both styles there is no microphone. Tarja has done some arias from operas with a small ensemble, but so has Floor. Neither of them has ever sung with a full symphonic orchestra because they simply do not have the training. This is not to rag on Tarja or Floor, whose voices I have appreciated for over twenty years.

(And I expect many more will follow) You just heard Floor Jansen (pronounce Yahn-Sen). Although the band is Finnish their 3rd female vocalist isn’t, she is Dutch. Floor was born on Februari 21st, 1981 in Goirle the Netherlands. At the age of 16 she started her career as (initially) just as background singer from the Dutch metal band ‘After Forever’ in 1997 but real soon she took over the lead until early 2009 and the band fell apart. Parallel she studied at the Dutch Rock Academy in Tilburg starting in 1999 where she graduated in 2003 and spent two years on classical training with the National Conservatory. She studied Musical Theatre and one year Opera. She plays guitar, piano and flute and has completed 12 years of music studies. She’s a Light Lyric Soprano and her vocalrange runs from E3 to D6. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ‘ReVamp’, which was disbanded in September 2016. In August 2010 Jansen was a guest in the TV program De tiende van Tijl. In that program she sang an aria by Puccini. From October 1, 2012 (while she was within ReVamp, but recovering from a burnout) Floor replaced Anette Olzon as the singer of Nightwish halfway their Imaginaerum World Tour. You can watch this same performance with the lyrics to help you understand the powerful feelings In the lyrics. To me the lyrics tell a story of a woman who in the beginning of the song is fondly remembering the love she use to share with someone as she recalls swimming in the same moonlight waters …. Then hence the title of the song “ Ghost love score “ … their love is now just a ghost of what it use to be … the score is the type of music it’s written as in telling the story of this lost love in different scenes or chapters. After the fond memories in the beginning after the guitar solo and the instrumental bridge … she now is in her anger stage and her tone gets darker and talks about their lost love in a upset way now all while still singing that her “ Fall will be for you “ as she still can’t stop loving him even though it’s taking her down !

There are no bad songs and each one you hear is very different from the other. And each one will become your new favorite. That might sound ridiculous but we have seen it over and over again. This is a live band. This is a rarity that the live music is better than the engineered versions. Stick with live. General Gabriel should arrive to give you a road map and a history to help you on this most magical of journeys. A few of my suggestions outside of this concert venue, Yours is an empty Hope, Wembley. (The cruise ship video is not as good) How's the heart, Planet Rock Acoustic version and I want my tears back, and Dead Boys Poem, Buenos Aires Argentina. Enjoyed your comments and Audio/Visual presentation. One piece of advice. Never stop a Nightwish song in the last minute. That's when the magic happens. Welcome to the world of Nightwish.

@@nicod1361 That's why I said that it is a ***guide ***, it is not a bible. Every reactor is free to make his own choice, but.... there are a number of wrong speed, cut too short and other lesser videos available on YT. If the reactor chooses one of those videos, the Army is upset (to say the least) that they reacted to the 'wrong version'. As far as I know there are no 'wrong' versions in Gabriel's list. Are there better performances, better mixes available on YT, hell yeah, I don't doubt it. And it is part personal choice and preference. For example, GLS. I prefer the Buenos Aires 2012 version, although the Wacken 2013 videos is the most reacted to. Once they are 'hooked', It is up to the reactor, if they are interested enough, to check out other versions.

personally, I love it when reactors react to Nightwish with the lyrics on screen (while still doing the live performances of course). I just feel like it helps them appreciate the poetry of the music better. Plus, as they said, for some it's not always easy to catch every word. Just my two cents. P.S. If you pause, it is appreciated if you bring the video back about 10 seconds to recapture the flow of the song.

New subscriber here. Great reaction. In case anyone hasn't mentioned it yet (and since you asked) it is pronounced "Vokken," to use phonetic spelling that we Americans recognize. The "pipe organ" is just a fancy keyboard stand holding Tuomas's Korg synths. It is modelled after a famous sculpture at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. The flaming bull's head is the logo of the festival venue and has nothing to do with the band. I'm anxious to check back again and follow you guys on your journey down the Nightwish rabbit hole, should you choose to continue it. Happy listening!

Info dump for you below!😁 Nightwish is a glorious rabbit hole of awesome, with world class song-writing, musicianship and arguably (or unarguably to most who've heard her enough😉) the best and most versatile female vocalist alive today (maybe ever), the Valkyrie Queen of metal herself Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen). Floor is a classically trained soprano and has a vocal range of more than 3 octaves (D3 to F6+). Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had (and my personal favourite), she was only with them on tour for 10 months at this point and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today. The other vocalists are - Tarja Turunen - (1996-2005) - (Finland) - Very operatic focused vocals. Anette Olzon - (2007-2012) - (Sweden) - More pop-centric vocals. Floor Jansen - (2012-Present) - (Netherlands) - Extremely diverse vocals, from deep growls to full on opera. The other band members are/were - Tuomas Holopainen - Song writer/composer and Keyboards. (Finland) Marko Hietala - Bassist and vocals. (Finland) Emppu Vuorinen - Guitarist (Finland) Jukka Nevalainen - Drums (Finland) Retired in 2014 due to health issues Troy Donockley - Multi-instrumentalist and Vocals. (United Kingdom) Kai Hahto - Drums (Finland) - 2014 to Present Floor herself is Dutch and is another glorious goldmine of awesome as she has a lot of non-Nightwish related stuff (including 2 other bands, After Forever & ReVamp) that she has done that is all pretty amazing as well. She is also an absolutely lovely, funny, smart and grounded person (in fact all the band members are exceedingly down to earth individuals). She has her own channel here on KZbin where she regularly posts covers of songs. The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter/composer and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen. The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is EXTREMELY varied. The "Symphonic" backing tracks of their music is composed in the majority by Tuomas and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. This was the 13th song in this particular set, Floor is belting notes like that the entire set. Nighwish are almost always better experienced with LIVE versions of their songs if at all possible. Most new reactors are better off sticking with the Wacken 2013 set to begin with as it offers a taste of a lot of what Nightwish has to offer, they have multiple concerts though all of which are superb. Some suggestions for more songs for you to continue your journey would be Romanticide, Storytime, Ever Dream, Ghost River, I Wish I had an Angel, Song of Myself, Dark Chest of Wonders, I Want My Tears Back and Amaranth all from Wacken 2013 (pronounced Vacken). Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point, 82,000 people were in attendance. Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version. Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make a lot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way. Prepare for the Nightwish army to arrive and enjoy your Nightwish journey, I know I did!😎🤘

Great reaction and I subbed for more Nightwish, Please take a deep dive down the rabbit hole. You won't regret it. And I have to agree with all those comments about sticking with live performances. They really are much better live and a lot of their songs were written for the other vocalists and so there are not many studio recordings with this vocalist.

As amazing as that performance is, it only gets better. Floor is quite possibly the most amazing singer active right now. Her voice, her sustain, her presence on stage. I hope you do more Nightwish. Check out more. Try Storytime, Ever Dream and Romanticide from the same show. You can't go wrong with them though. Always do live for them. They are amazingly better live than studio. Nightwish live is the best. Floor Jansen (Dutch vocalist) is the singer of Nightwish for 8 years now. She can sing opera, classic, Metal Rock, grunt, growl. Foor sings live every not perfect! She is a fully trained classical vocalist (which includes opera) at the Music university in Amsterdam and after that she finished the Rock Academy in Holland. There is other singer like Floor! Nightwish is a band who have fun on stage but play extremely well and spot on.
