I am so happy I scrolled and found this comment! I brought this to my women’s group a few months ago- and told them “it wasnt exactly written for domestic abuse; but it’s my anthem; I listen to it before I read his emails:before I write back: before talking with my lawyers: or when I need to remind myself that I have done the work and I am not the same person that fled finally after 16 years: with nothing but $400, 6 suitcases: flew home to Hawaii within 36hrs with my 3 amazing kids last July… This is my battle anthem- and I think it can be yours” after stating all that I played it- on the speakers and then we started ending a h meeting with it since every woman had downloaded it, even when I miss a meeting, they play it! I have heard the a few ladies have shared it at the women’s shelter and it other safe spaces- When she dropped the official video- a massive group text went out for a special meeting and premiered the video- we were all signing and yelling and I wish I had recorded it- we all felt like we had taken the power back and we knew our worth. I wish more people would react to the lyrics first to really hear what is being said and the emotions that come through and then her amazing talent. And then react to the official video- because (1) she worked really hard as an independent artist and didn’t have a large budget and you can’t tell that all- she should be so proud of it. (2) the video is epic- anyone who has ever been bullied or abused- you might not physically react- but we have all had the thoughts of how we would physically respond to seeing them again or what we dream we could do to the bully or abuser - it’s the difference between therapy talking things through but can sometimes make you feel guilt for feeling rage or revenge wishes and a support group- well: support group means no judgement and usually responses with- girl I have had the same thought so many times- making there be no guilt and feelings valid This song and video- is that epic support when you need it. Truly- as my one year anniversary of finally leaving and starting the journey of deprogram from the actuality of being married to an actual narcissist- finding my self worth and finding the courage to fight back- I wish this song would spread even more. I love the official video!
