This was deeply personal to Tyler. He fought with the label to keep it on the album. They thought there would be negative backlash. But Tyler was committed to get this message out. He used a very stripped down spoken word approach to make sure his message was clear. And the piano part reminiscent of Moonlight Sonata set the perfect tone. He’s incorporated suicide awareness into a lot of his music, but in a more veiled fashion. He became increasingly disturbed by what he felt was a glorification of suicide, particularly with celebrities. It’s heartbreaking hearing him perform this 😿 But there’s a powerful BBC Radio 1 performance of just Tyler on piano in an empty theater. This song comes from deep within his soul. And I love how he ends it with uplifting encouragement. ||-// Stay alive frens ||-//

@@hannahleaha_ Regional at Best was written before they signed to Fueled By Ramen. The label asked if they wanted to rerelease it, but Tyler decided instead to just select certain songs from RAB to re-record and put onto Vessel. I don’t believe Tyler has ever said why he chose some tracks and not others. But that’s why the other tracks won’t be on Spotify. If you watch their livestream for the 10th anniversary of Vessel, Tyler talks about RAB. It’s a great stream!

So glad you guys had a chance to hear this one. Chester Bennington was a HUGE TØP fan (posting about them and their music on social media regularly - even covering and practing their songs on his acoustic guitar. There are rumors that this song was made in part with his memory in mind. Those are some of the rumors and speculation anyway - I don't believe it's anything that has been confirmed by the band.

So glad you finally reacted to this. I've asked a few times. Neon Gravestones tore the heart out of me the 1st time I heard it. It's such an important track. Not just about getting people to talk about suicide, thus "beating a stigma that no longer scares up" but it also calls out the reaction, mainly on social media, when a young person or a celeb takes their own life. The news is usually followed by pages and pages of posts & comments bigging the person up, talking about how loved they were etc. Maybe we tell our nearest & dearest those things everyday while they're alive and it can do some good. It's been scientifically studied and found that in the young, suicide can spread like a virus. Someone struggling with their mental health sees all the posts and love for the deceased person and it almost encourages or makes it easier for them to do it themselves. The boys touch on using suicide "as a form of a weapon.....thinking I'll show them....". Again, proven fact, beneath a certain age, young people don't understand the permanence of death. I saw a documentary on the subject a few years ago. One 13 year old boy was heard to say to his psychiatrist " if I top myself at the weekend, I can't wait to see how all the assholes at school react on monday"! TOP literally saved my daughter's life. She'd been struggling with severe depression & anxiety for almost 2 years and we believe she was reaching a stage of despair when suicide would no longer be a huge stretch. By fluke, she heard Car Radio, never having heard of TOP before. The lyrics, she said later, touched her soul and made her realise that someone else knew exactly how she felt. She started listening to their other stuff back then and just bonded with them. She saw them live the 1st time they came to Ireland as a support act for another band. She's seen them every time they've come to Britain or Ireland since. I ended up loving them because she had them on in my car so much. For my 50th birthday, we went to their Trench gig in Belfast. The morning before the show, I'd bought meet & greet passes as a surprise. The PR people were telling everyone in the queue no photos, no questions etc etc to keep the line moving. When we got to the table where the boys were signing autographs I said to Tyler " thank you so much for saving my daughter's life"! They both stopped what they were doing and stood up. The PR guys went to move us on but Tyler told them to back off. They came round the table and hugged my daughter 1 by 1. They took a few minutes to chat with her and then posed for photos with her. It made my girl's year! They say don't meet your heros! Maybe you just need better heros!! Great job boys xxx

Truthfully, this was a good one about the subject but it isn't the first from them, they had Truce, Goner, Guns for Hands, and so many more from their earlier albums. A lot of their songs are about mental health and even deeper but he has an amazing way with words and puts the lyrics with a beat where you would never expect the song to mean what it does. That is why so many people relate to their music and they have such a HUGE following. Just want to add that I love your reaction vids on them, thank you and can't wait for more

Love to see you back with twenty one pilots reactions. That song definitely had my heart punched when I’ve heard it for the first time, and I just recently found out that their label thought that it’s a risk, and that it could be taken wrong by the public and ruin band’s career, but Tyler went with a decision to leave it on the album, which was definitely a great choice- i don’t think i’ve ever heard anyone singing about this topic in such way. I saw someone recommended checking their Goner performance at the Fox theatre and i have to say, that’s really a MUST. One of the strongest performance I’ve ever seen, you’ll love it, I’m sure

They did a live performance of Heathens in Romania that they mixed with the Stranger Things theme song. They showed snips of the last season on the screens. In the most recent season, a character was brought back from the bad place where she listened to music (Kate Bush "Been Running up that Hill"). On the screen in the back it says "Music has the Power to Save Lives". It's kind of hard to see and I wish the camera focused on it more. You made me think of that at the end. Their music helps so many people.

Brothers Ryker, I found you guys today after going down a KZbin rabbit hole and rediscovering my favorite band TOP. I really appreciate your dynamic and in particular Kyle's emotional response to Tyler's lyrics. I've been a huge fan of Tyler and Josh for a long time and I highly recommend you do a reaction video to the Drown, Save, and Hear Me Now (among others) from Tyler's "No Phun Intended" album. I'll be honest, hearing Eric say that this type of song was not like other TOP songs you'd expect is frustrating, because the entire foundation of TOP is mental health struggles, faith and using music as a way to navigate contract between the two. Again, appreciate all that you guys are doing and can see from your later videos that you found out what makes these guys so special, but if you have not done so already - go listen to "No Phun Intended", you won't regret it.

There are definitely older songs that have similar vibes/message. It's one of the main reasons I love twenty one pilots so much and started listening to them!! Definitely should check out more like Goner, Truce, Lovely, and Friend, Please (there are so many more tho)! Most of the first albums/self-titled are piano/uke based because Tyler still hadn't learned other instruments. The last lines in Neon Gravestones never fail to make me cry. Makes even more painful when you realize his grandfather died while this record was being created (listen to Legend for that lil bit)

*hugs for Kyle and *hugs for Eric, I certainly missed these reactions from you all, but I'm glad to have another one now. They have sung a lot about mental illness topics in their older music. But this was the first of this kind where it's more simplified in a sense. I freaking love them so much. They constantly try to tell their fan base that they also struggle and that those listening are not alone in their own fights. This came out around the time when we lost Anthony Bourdain and Chester Bennington. Basically voicing frustrations that people are ignored until it's already too late. And then, all of a sudden, we start focusing on it after they are gone. Creating television specials, trying to release their biography early because they passed, buying their merch, albums, etc. Our attention should be placed on people to prevent them from struggling or alleviating them while they are. Not when it's too late. This song always makes me gosh darn sob because of how brilliantly genuine and thoughtful it is. I can't remember if you reacted to it already but it would be wonderful if you could do a double-feature type reaction. My Chemical Romance created a song called Cancer and Twenty One Pilots did a beautiful cover of it. My Chemical Romance has a music video for it and Twenty One Pilots has an official lyric video for it. If you already reacted to one then it would be awesome if you could eventually react to the other one as well when you are in a good enough mental space to do so. I look forward to seeing more reactions from you listening to Twenty One Pilots, and I'm going to go revisit the older ones you've already done again. 💙

You guys REALLY need to check out their deeper cuts.... Everything you're asking them to give you more of, they've given on other, older songs. Truce, Trees, Goner, Forest, Kitchen Sink. Also ones like House of Gold, We Don't Believe What's On TV, Fake You Out..... Every single song they have is different and beautiful and worth a serious listen.

As a twenty one pilots fan, it's so ironic hearing you guys say "this is so unexpected from twenty one pilots" because it's like their whole appeal early on lmaoooo Their most recent album was less emo, but that's unexpected, not the other way around🤭🤭

the whole trench album is so amazing, you should definitely check out the other tracks from it I think you'd really enjoy them. I'm glad you guys really listened to this one, I've seen a lot of reactors sort of sleep on this one which is such a shame, it's such a powerful and important song

The line where it says I’ll mourn for a kid but won’t cry for a king is half not true because of the fact that most people will get sad at famous people passing away while a lot of kids pass away every day

Their roots are sorta focused on mental health and reconciling what "you" believe in. I get that it may not be clear depending on the path taken in discovering their catalog of work. So, really, this was more of a revisiting of the topic than a departure. If there's anything that you can pin them down on it's the emotions more than anything musical -- they do happy-sounding music with heart-breaking lyrical content. If this is a departure, it's that in this case, both the music and lyrics have a more somber tone.

The way media talks about celebrities when they take their own life, is like a huge advertisement-it’s literally a *neon sign* . Don’t know about the US but in many countries the local media doesn’t report on this type of tragedy, in order to prevent copycats. It’s only when celebrities commit everyone is talking about.

Holding on to you by 21 pilots is one those great videos with meaningful words. You will definitely love the song and their video. Another is one called the HYPE but the remake he made in Berlin before his concert there. His voice sounds amazing and also the remake of it as well.

Love it!!! Next song maybe continuing the story? So that would be Scaled and Icy track: Shy Away, then Choker, Saturday and last The Outside. If not, then maybe Ride (so famous maybe you know it) or my fav Guns for Hands
