Yes!!! This is what a call a book list for so many different genres! I’m excited to have found this video and ya’ll’s channel as someone who loves to be well-rounded in reading and read all genres. I just got back into reading a few years ago after having my 4th child and needing to prioritize time for me. Two other genres I add to my list is Spiritual/Christian and Leadership/Communication (which I suppose would be Self Development as well, but I actually separate the two since I’m looking for specific reads in certain areas of growth). Thank you for this video as I have a lot of great new to me books to add to my 2025 TBR.

I have a recommendation for you two! The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See. It’s historical fiction based on the tale of friendship, loss, forgiveness, and tragedy that occurred on the Korean Island of Jeju between two women who were haenyeo, a matriarchal culture of women who dive in the sea to support their family, during World War II, the Cold War, and the years after. It’s tragic, heartbreaking, and also hopeful and heartwarming at the same time.

Agh Sword of Kaigen is soo amazing! So happy to see Ruin on here! It ruins everyone.... Also great to see The Wolf Den and Beautiful World Where Are You (I think it is Rooney's underrated work so far). I need to read The Will of the Many! Dark Matter is also very hight on my list.... Blood Over Bright Haven is probably the next one I'll get to. The book FOMO is unreal! I'll be adding Greenlights to the TBR :).

Have to say, Bloodsworn Saga was making a case for favorite series of the year for me, but Red Rising locked that award up a while ago. I'll make a new category and make it my favorite trilogy :) Agree on Greenlights for memoir (although it was the only one I read in 2024 lol). Will of the Many wins as best overall for me, unless something tops it in my last 4 or 5 reads of the year. Maddie, I struggled with Empire of Silence, and haven't had the heart to pick up Howling Dark yet (but really want to), so I feel ya on that. My favorite standalone had to be 11/22/63, which was my first read of 2024. Definitely my favorite King novel so far besides the Stand. Great stuff as always, ladies!
@KrisandmadsАй бұрын
Ok you're making me want to try stephen king! We're not really horror girlies, so we've been intimidated to pick on up by him, but we hear such great things! Yeah Sun Eater is a wild one. It is clearly so sophisticated writing-wise. The world-building is all there, the scope is so vast, and the plot has such potential. I've just been missing an emotional connection to the characters, and any kind of personal investment in the stakes. It's getting there though. Mid-series it's hitting for me. Yeah Red Rising is just so hard to beat. Nothing can top it for us, but we read it last year, so lucky for these books they don't have to compete.
@sethsimmons5671Ай бұрын
@@Krisandmads 11/22/64 is definitely one of his more non-horror reads. It reads more like historical fiction.
@chandrabenner6257Ай бұрын
Just finished Blood Over Bright Haven and love, love, loved it but I do think Sword of Kaigen will be my top for the year but I will say Goldfinch is probably going to be a book that stays with me for a lifetime. Last year I read a collection of novellas by Nnedi Okorafor called Binti. If you have not read them I highly highly recommend. One of my favourite classic writers is Herman Hesse. Steppenwolf is a top book I recommend. It is such a crazy mind trip. I’ve read it several times and every single time it’s like reading a new book because you catch some new thing that completely changes what you think happened in the book.
@KrisandmadsАй бұрын
We love both, but agree that Sword of Kaigen is superior to Blood Over Bright Haven. And yes! I feel the same way about the Goldfinch! Binti is definitely on the TBR. We hear such good things! We need to check out Herman Hesse. Thanks so much for the recs!

Here are some recs! Unsure if you've already read any of these but these have been standouts for me over the years. Also would advise you to check trigger warnings just in case there are certain things you avoid in books! Memoir: The Trauma Cleaner by Sarah Krasnostein (check trigger warnings bc it's a lot!) - such an interesting read - a truly insane memoir Science Fiction/Thriller: The Passengers by John Marrs, The One by John Marrs Fantasy/Series: The Poppy War series if you haven't already read it! Historic Fiction: Betty by Tiffany McDaniel (likely my favorite book of the year) Young Adult/Romance: Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz Literary Fiction: Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors Body horror/lgbtq/literary: Chlorine by Jade Song Horrors of the world horror: Any Man by Amber Tamblyn (check trigger warnings this one is A LOT) Genre Bending: a bit of a wildcard bc i'm not sure if you guys enjoy manga BUT - Orange (The Complete Collection) by Ichigo Takano (mix of YA manga, sci-fi element, romance)

Are you including graphic novels? (Which are nothing more than comic books.) Or.....are the books counted only the 200 page romance novels?? Would someone out there help me figure this out?
