With Apple's latest announcement of macOS Big Sur at the WWDC software conference in June, Apple gave us a real big challenge to recreate their newest default wallpaper. Apparently Catalina wasn't a hard enough challenge. This year we had to follow the legendary crack marketing team 4000 feet above the Big Sur coast in a helicopter to capture the shot.

the whole "imitators" thing was just a prolonged inside-joke about their naming (not wallpapers), calling back to Craig's first time on stage.. He kicked off a discussion of "Yosemite," by poking fun at the "crack product-marketing team" that develops their names, saying in his presentation that they stuff them in a van and that they first came up with a bunch of wild names like OS X "weed" among others. Since then he has come back to that theme most years at WWDC as a way to jokingly explain the way they get their names for the next OS.. Look up "The History of Apple's Crack Product Marketing Team" on KZbin, its pretty funny, and his comment this year will make perfect sense.

They can't fly it off the coast of Big Sur and they also can't fly it above FAA altitude limits to get the exact same shot. They _could_ physically do it, probably, but then they couldn't make a monetized video without potentially getting fined by the FAA.

@Oli Shore I'm not quite sure which object you are referring to, but you can't see Saturns rings in such a wide angle shot. Still, Jupiter and Saturn are both in frame, with Jupiter being the extremely bright spot to the left of the Milky Way and Saturn the less bright object directly to it's left. The object i think you are referring to is actually the Lagoon Nebula, which is a star forming region about 4100 light years away, but still inside our own galaxy. It just looks a little bit like a planet with rings due to a lucky arrangement of bright stars.
