We Restored a Vintage Mini Bike in 24 HOURS for a Show (and WON!) | 1969 Powell Challenger Build

Powell Challenger vintage mini bike was one of our 2023 Pate Swap meet finds, and we thought it'd be the perfect mini bike build for the Pull Start Picnic mini bike show! In today's episode, we restore this vintage mini bike by stripping the oils off the paint, scuffing the chassis, giving it a fresh coat of paint, getting the Tecumseh HS40 running, and entering it into a mini bike show! The 2023 Pull Start Picnic was a blast, and we even won our class with our fresh vintage mini bike restoration.

I have the same model Powell Challenger in storage, it was my childhood best friend’s and we could never get it running worth a damn. About twenty years ago he came back to town to clear out his parent’s old garage and gave it to me…now it’s awaiting its resurrection…I am INSPIRED!!!

I loved these growing up. Pull start ,centrifugal clutches, brakes and shocks on the front if you were lucky. I used to swap out the engines as I was growing up, starting at 1/4 horse, but the last engines were 5 horsepower.

Yes!!! I inherited 2 challengers from 72 from my father. I don’t see enough content on these bikes. I struggled to put a predator 212 in mine and couldn’t find much help online. Can’t wait to watch the video

The loose belt with lever tensioner dates back to the single speed & 2 speed motorcycles of the 1890's to 1910's. My late grandfather rode and crashed (several times) a 1910's made example, when he was a young man, way back in the 1920's. His bike had a leather belt, which snapped on one occasion, became caught in the rear wheel and flayed his leg badly.
