I'd love to have a "formal" introduction to all the animals. Like what is their story, what is their fav. food/toy. What kind of home would suit them etc. Basically a profile so that people see them and can find a dog to adopt easier. Also rescue content.

Are these hybrid wolves ever actually happy with their life? I mean the wolf in them must always long to be free roaming, with a full pack as they were meant to do so in rescuing them are you giving them a life or just keeping them alive? I am not trying to be contrary I really want to know what you think. I don't have an answer within myself, other than for stupid people to stop the breeding and other stupid people to stop buying them, but watching them, and the other 2 that you rescued, is absolutely soul crushing.
@ladypoly23043 жыл бұрын
It's for the best interest of the wolfdog hybrid. It's not as simple as black and white where one can either let them roam free as wild animals or they will not be able to lead a contented life. If you let them roam, they may carry bad genetics that if they should mate with the wild wolves may endanger that species, they would also pose risk to humans which we know always end in tragedy for either or both parties as Tye mentioned. Sanctuaries like Tye's are the only option for these kind of animals much like domesticated foxes from fur farms etc. They provide safe haven for them. Enclosures may be enhanced for more space and enrichment to keep the animals stimulated (hope more funding comes their way). The real solution is what you mentioned, no more breeding and patronizing of these practices.

Wow. You guys are amazing. I'm so glad you're able to rescue them. But I'm so angry that people continue to be stupid and heartless enough to breed from wolves! Haven't we got enough wolf-like breeds FCOL? GSD, Belgian shepherds/malinois, husky, malamute, rottweiler, doberman... And so on! Tbh, what seems to be an American passion to own inappropriate animals as pets stuns me. Wild animals like big cats, bears, wolves, and totally unsuitable small animals like slow lorises which, btw, are not acting in a cute manner and having fun by putting their arms up when being tickled, it means they're terrified. And the desire to own one is so much that they're being taken from their mothers in the wild (usually after killing the mother, if not more of them in traps and the like), and they're going extinct as a result. I'm not saying that the US is the only destination for inappropriate breeds as pets, not by a long shot, but it must be one of the worst (especially in the west). And no matter how many sad stories, or tragedies there are as a result, nothing is done to protect these poor creatures. Of course, if someone gets bitten by one, or killed, that innocent animal who was probably acting to protect itself, ends up dead. 😠 No one is protecting them, except, of course, by rescues such as yourself. But you shouldn't even _need_ to be doing this in the first place! I get mad enough at people who dump domesticated dogs, but I do know that rescues would need to exist even if that behaviour stopped because owners end up in situations beyond their control - like dying 🤷 - and some species like cats & dogs get out of their homes despite having a loving place. Curiosity will always cause problems like that (though microchipping would be a huge help when it comes to finding them. It's now mandatory in my country to have your pets microchipped. Even my son's tortoise - he "inherited" him from his late grandpa - has a chip. If you love your pets, chip them!), so animals will get into trouble irrespective of the humans around them. But FCOL, stop with this ridiculous notion that wild animals will make great pets if they're one generation from the wild, either by being born in captivity or crossbred, such as these wolf-dogs! .😡 Sorry, I can't help but get angry when I see the need for shelters such as yourselves to have to come to the (let's be blunt, bloody expensive) rescue of animals which shouldn't even exist. And it's not those poor pups' faults. I wish you every ounce of luck with them and hope that they eventually come to trust you. At least they're in the best of hands. Much love to you and your staff, and of course, your various animal friends. 💕

It’s horrible that humans breed/sell/buy wolf hybrids. I’ve met some people who had them - it never works well. The hybrids cannot be socialized or trained like dogs, and they are almost impossible to housebreak (wolf urine has a very strong, unpleasant odor and it doesn’t come out of carpet, upholstery, curtains, etc.). They chew up everything. Wolf-dog owners are at high risk of being hurt or killed by the animal. They are extremely dangerous around children because they are unpredictable. Homeowners Insurance does not cover injury/damage caused by wolf hybrids. Be prepared to pay out of pocket if your (or your tenants’) wolf-dog hurts/kills someone or damages property. I worked for an insurance company and would read the reports. One woman had two adult wolf hybrids she’d raised from puppies. She came home one day and the wolves were “lying in wait.” Instead of greeting her happily as they usually did, the wolves attacked her, ripped her throat open, tore her jugular vein, and when she was dead, they chewed on her limbs. It’s a sad but not uncommon story. :(
