This one wasn't as hard for me to watch as fixing the truck in North Dakota. I could really see myself "breaking down" (for lack of a better word) in that one. This time around I felt like we both were able to process, assess, and move on pretty quickly all things considered. Kalyn was just so shot from a day of filming (it really wears her out since she bears pretty much all of the creative burden on filming days) so I was super proud of her when she was able to move forward so quickly. I just wish I had been a tiny bit more patient. "We've gotta get on this" probably wasn't what she needed from me most in that moment. 😂 -J

We were so happy to get a sunset... allbiet a muted one when it came to colors. We had a very quick "Are we filming this or just telling people after the fact" exchange all while still processing the emotions but since we do our best to show real life, even when it's our own mistakes that got us there, and we were already filming we decided to just keep the video rolling. It's always different to process with a camera present, but it was the real us. I have to say...I think more people should run a camera during something like this if for no other reason than to listen to themselves. I thought my tone was a lot more patient until I listened back to it. I was like "Whoah... could have slowed down just a little to let Kalyn process there a little more, Joseph. sheesh" 😂

I'm so sorry this happened to you! You are not alone, others have learned the hard way of forgetting to turn off the water pump. In fact. I think I remember Phil and Stacy from Today is Someday had their shower turn in while driving. We haven't had the water pump issue, but we used to store a taller storage tower in our shower when traveling. When we hooked up to city water at the campground we found out that the bumpy roads had made the tower jump up and broke the cold water shower knob. Water was spraying out of it, but luckily our shower doors were closed and no damage was done. Now in addition to lessons learned from others about turning off the water pump, we also don't travel with large/tall items in the shower and make sure that someone is inside checking all the water faucets when we hook up the city water.

I have been on the road this past week on my way out to Arizona for the winter. I had a very similar thing happen although my pump was turned off. I left my Insta pot on the counter. It slid over to the faucet turned on the handle, and there was enough water left in the pipes to completely drowned the plant that I left sitting down in the sink, lol it’s always something with these RVs. Loved the video. Glad that you visited the petrified forest. I was there many years ago. Kudos to finding the tree that you were looking for.❤

I had a similar experience here on the boat. After a rough day in the ocean, I pulled into a marina and had a puddle of water on the cabin floor. Somehow, the faucet spun itself around from over the sink and the valve opened. Fortunately, the water pump was off and it was just what the expansion tank had in it. It baffled me for days how that could have happened. Finally chalked it up to engine vibration, rough seas and dumb luck.

Goodness you two, I'm so sorry that happened and must have been so stressful. This is education for us soon to be full-timers. An interesting event that the vibration and the kitchen spigot turned your day inside out! You both show a great deal of character and hope to meet you someday next year. Travel Safe and thank you for the great information on this boondocking spot. It does look beautiful!

I did something similar. Arrived at campsite and hooked up city water and turned it on before entering the rig. When I finished setting up, went inside and the kitchen faucet was over the counter and it was on. So, it was running for maybe 15 minutes. Yes, learned that lesson.

I learned from YT videos to turn the water pump off. ....at 67 years old skip the mental drama and address the problem. You two did that.....bright side is it made great content 👍 ....you both love each other is all that matters. ❤

It does, real RV life and I hope maybe someone will see our mistake and avoid it themselves, or at the very least be entertained by our video. 😁 Thanks so much for the encouragement! We are planning some merch someday! -J

Traveling Robert left their water pump switch turned on driving back down the Dalton from Arctic Circle and the rough road turned their faucet on. Filled their gray tank but luckily did not overflow in their camper. They had to make do with a full gray tank and no place to dump until they got back to Fairbanks. I always try to be sure my pump is turned off when traveling.

Glad to see the damage wasn’t bad! The sound of her voice when you first opened the door was tough to hear. With the oil change recommend getting a fumoto drain valve to replace oil drain plug. Way less messy! I have a powerstroke as well and the oil can shoot out.

I advocate putting the water pump on a relay that disconnects power to the pump when the trailer harness is plugged into the truck.

I then Always put a spandex tie to hold the faucet closed... I am happy to see you guys are handling it better as the video goes on.

We rented a Class C RV and drove up to Voyageurs a couple years ago. Because we were in the camper, we saw the faucet turn on because of vibration and used a rubber band to secure the handle to the faucet. We didn't even know to turn off the pump. 😅 So sorry this happened to you! What a frustrating turn to your adventure. 😢
@camustang196616 сағат бұрын
This happened to us several years ago. The roads vibrated the faucet open and flooded the RV. From that moment on, we bungeed the faucet handle to the faucet so it couldn’t vibrate open. And we now ALWAYS make sure the water pump is off in transit…no matter what.

Use a pilots checklist. Airplane pilots always go through a preflight checklist before takeoff. It's a great safety rule. Maybe make a checklist with all that is a must do before you turn a wheel.

So sorry this happened, but what I see is a Rv that’s well constructed with plywood and not CDX or particle board. Life is an adventure and y’all are living it. So glad Joe got his projects done you need to get a dehumidifier it will help dry the camper out. Really enjoy your videos, Joe don’t forget the color matched caulk it’s yours when you want it. I can ship it or if you’re on I-95 coming through Georgia you can pick it up!

Just wanted to say this, while dealing with an overly affectionate cat. If that is your first RV flood, you should be OK since you got to it as soon as you saw it and did not let it sit for days without doing anything. However, I would suggest either changing your kitchen sink facet to a double handled version of the same facet, or make a small modification to keep the water handle and head in place while traveling in case you forget to turn the pump off. As you will forget again, and this does come from experience owning a 1954 Spartan Royal Mansion that had busted water lines that took several attempts to find all the leaks, when we first hooked it to a full time water supply. To the tune of 9 different leaks, before replacing the water line under the sink.

Great video!! Hey you live and learn. I have to say if you had a newer Rig your floor and cabinets would have buckled. That is the problem now days they just do not make them as well as they use too. See you next week.

This is the layout that came with this model. There are a lot of 2004-2005 RVs with this layout (keystone, Jayco designer, and at least one other one) but they are all 20 years old now. 👀 I hear you though, Layout is one of our top 5 considerations for getting another RV if we ever do. Since it's our home we're very picky so We'll stick with this one until we can get/find the next one that will be just right. -J

I’m so glad the water situation was resolved easier than I was expecting. 🎉. I have a question about boondocking. How do you keep your things and trailer secure when you leave the trailer to go into town. It may not be an issue for 5th wheels, but I imagine a trailer could be stolen when the owner is gone.
@OpenRoading18 сағат бұрын
So....Safety. We've boondocked for 5 years and haven't had anything stolen. If someone is going to steal a trailer or a 5th wheel they can do so. They make locks that you can put in the hitch of a trailer or around the pin of a 5th wheel that prevents it from getting hooked up if you are afraid of someone taking the entire rig. Outright RV theft is not common. It can happen... but it's not common. We trust our gut at various boondocking spots and as we've done this for longer I think we've gotten even better at understanding if a place is truly "sketchy" or not. As to the stuff in your RV.... it's the same as a house...locks just keep the lazy thieves out. If someone is dead set on stealing your stuff...they're gonna do it. We lock everything up and so far in 5 years we've had no instances of theft. It could happen tomorrow...or it might never happen. Terrible answer I know... but I think the short answer is, rural boondocking spots aren't actually as unsafe as people think they are. Sure, not as much traffic so a thief might not get caught...but also... fewer people driving by to even know you are there. 🤷🏼 -J

@@OpenRoading thanks. This does help me to think about boondocking in the future. No one has ever addressed this in the videos that I’ve seen.
