I have spent a few weeks in Laos 25 yrs ago.Some of the children in your amazing films are obviously dirt poor,but look so amazingly happy and fun loving.It's a joy to see.I am hoping to be visiting again in Feb/March this year.

My family used to volunteer to teach the Lao children at a Lao Church on Sundays. We always brought treats and stickers after the lessons. The lessons were mostly art projects with crayons, paper and glue. We also loved the smiles on the kids faces. Also the parents smiled too because they said we loved their kids. I learned quite a bit of Lao but I do not use it much anymore because I have Multiple Sclerosis and cannot go out much. Your travels brings back lovely memories for me.

BISCUITS MATE - cookies is so American LOL maybe its the NSW influence when you grew up LOL After the Katherine (NT) Floods in Jan 1998 one of the first things that was given out to those stranded in town for weeks on end was chocolate - not because it is nutritious but because it was a pleasurable delight during a hard and trying time of clean up etc... etc... Sorry guys, we can't give you a momentary respite from the monotonous diet you have and bring a little smile to your face with a once in a blue moon treat as a cookie is dangerous to your health! Mina summed it up beautifully, bless her! Looking at life through the eyes of a child is not too difficult and which one of us as children did not enjoy a treat once in a while. Being born not long after the 2nd World War, I was 5 years old before rationing was taken off sweets so for me any little treat like a sweet or a cookie was the highlight of my life and I remember it to this day! Any way take no notice of the nay sayers Todd and do what you do best. You are an amazing family who bring happiness to those people who have nothing, with clothes survival packs and medicine. (can't mention cookies) These acts of kindness will be remembered well into the future and people will sit around fires talking about the kind farang and his wife and daughter, who came to the village!
