This album changed the whole scene in 1978...Everybody after tried to copy this and failed
@johnmcmahonBXLA9 ай бұрын
People are still trying to copy Eddie after 45 years. None of the contemporary Instagram shredders today can write just one of these catchy, well crafted, sophisticated yet fun sounding bangers. It’s pointless really. He was an Alien and will be still highly regarded for centuries to come. Just like Mozart
@djmylesmatisse9 ай бұрын
Just think about this...when producer Ted Templeman was working on this album, he didn't think David Lee Roth was a strong enough singer and wanted to replace him for the first album with Sammy Hagar. How crazy is that? Ted and engineer Donn Landee worked with just Dave on vocals away from the band because they didn't want the band to know Dave was struggling. Ted never approached the other Van Halen band members about replacing Dave and by the end of the recording session for the debut album he realized Dave was in fact the man to front the band. In fact, when Van Halen and David split in 1985, Ted refused to produce their 5150 album with Sammy Hagar unless they changed the name. That's how strong Ted was that DLR was the ONLY singer to be their frontman. Today? Ted thinks Van Halen wouldn't have made it the way they did without David Lee Roth.

Van Halen I was a punch in the face! There was nothing that sounded like this before. Eddie's guitar work left listeners saying. "What?!?!" On every track. David Lee Roth's bombastic vocals were so unique. Michael Anthony's bass and harmonies have become legendary. Alex's drums backstopping the whole group. There will never be anything like VH I... ever.

My feelings are the same regarding Fair Warning and the debut- both are out of this world. The debut has the unbridled energy and jagged edge of one's youth. Fair Warning is the finely honed and polished blade of a samurai warrior who has mastered his skills.
@jakeenan9 ай бұрын
Eddie had the vision, the freedom, the formula.....and was also blessed with three band mates that not only got it but ran with it too. That's why each generation continues to discover their music.....it's the past, present and future all rolled into one. Only the best of the best can conjure up that magic.
@artis19699 ай бұрын
Ed did what he did because of the other three completely holding up their end of things. As strange as it is to say, what's remarkable to me after 46 years is really focusing on everything going on outside of Eddie's masterful playing. We could debate the Sammy era as much as we want. But this is the truest and best version of the band, these four guys and Templeman at the controls. They could do it all, whenever and however they chose. This record only gets better over time.

Great reaction! This is my favorite song on the album. The part of the song”throw your headphones on” then that riff right there to me is greatest riff in rock history. That’s my opinion of course. But that is Van Signature to describe them in a nutshell. I mean if you had to describe them in one song this is the one I’d use. I really appreciate you doing this album and Fair Warning. I’d like for you to go through all of the VH albums. You’ve taught me a lot about their music. Things I didn’t quiet get you exposed. It’s like now I listen to it and it’s new again. You should also check out Mammoth WVH. That is Wolfgang Van Halens band . He is Ed's one and only son. He plays all the instruments on both of his albums and sings every note you hear on the albums too.. No one will ever take Eddie's throne as King of course. However, his son is very impressive. Check out "Dont Back Down", "Another Celebration At The End Of The World", "I'm Alright" official videos.Start with "Dont Back Down" and watch them in the order I listed them in. Each one plays off of the previous video.

David Lee Roth was the singer on the first 6 albums. Van Halen, Van Halen 2, Women and Children First, Fair Warning, Diver Down and 1984. Then in 1986 Sammy Hagar replaced Dave as the new singer of VH starting with the album 5150.
@ronstewart63629 ай бұрын
The first 6 albums are Dave on vocals. In order there VH 1, Vh 2, women and children first (3), fair warning (4) diver down (5) and 1984 (6).... Then comes Sammy Hagar or Van Hagar some might say and thats 5150 (1) 0U812 (2) for Unlawful Carnal knowledge (3) Balance(4). All good but just different from early VH. After this theres VH 3 with Gary charone voclas and then in 2013 they recorded a different kinda truth with Dave on vocals and Eds son on bass guitar ( very good album IMO). Enjoy the journey. Oh id do VH 2 next .

Do Judgement Day, Poundcake, and Is This Love?, all are available as live videos. All three are with Sammy on vocals, and that’s no “dis” to Dave’s vocals whatsoever, but these rock hard with great live production late in the band’s career. 🤘Van Halen debut album, senior in High School when this and Tour came round. All the stars aligned, and the game had changed. Still surprised album didn’t chart higher. 👈
