They are educated in art history and music but don’ have any education or experience to be hoteliers. They made many mistakes. The walkway for the brides should have been indoors. The main kitchen should have been finished. The exterior of the new additions should look like the original building’s exterior. Taxidermy is distasteful and should not belong in this type of venue. Their fees are too low. Too much money was spent on decorating the rooms but they left the chapel and dining room bare. These two rooms are the most important rooms in the building.

OK, it's Stubton Hall (not Stunton Hall), if anyone is looking them up on the internet to see how it turned out. The "about" page on their website sums up their story. Sadly, as someone else noted in the comments, Kent passed away. Clarie still owns the hotel, and from the looks of it, it is primarily an event venue. I'm looking in Sept. 2022 and they are taking bookings for 2023 and 2024. The photos on the website are stunning.

Something about spending my very last penny on a lavish gamble like Stubton Hall would keep me up nights too. Absolutely, a professional or two on hand would have avoided all sorts of mistakes. The green, Chinese wallpaper was hung wrong, the decorated, scenic part should have been at chair rail height, not at ankle height, where it's hidden by the furniture and too low to focus on. The building(s) from the outside now resembles a somewhat incoherent street in an old town more than a house. Also, very sad to hear that Kent has died, but glad that he saw it finished

Pardon the pun but she's dead wrong about the taxidermy. Weddings aren't just for a bride you want to create an interesting environment for the guests who wander around the building before and in between the ceremony and reception, the animals make for an interesting conversation piece and harken back to the Era in which these country houses are from. It lends the historical authenticity one looks for in choosing this type of country house venue.
@erinsview8919
@erinsview8919 Жыл бұрын
I would agree with her regarding the taxidermy. It is not simply a question of taste. Taste is about liking or not. When it comes to taxidermy, it goes much deeper than that. I find the idea really repulsive and I am not even vegan or vegetarian, I was born on a farm yet I hate the idea of eating a meal under the stuffed cadaver of an animal with dead glass eyes. They just remind me of death. I would understand having them in a library for example so that people who manage to see them as something else can enjoy looking at them but I don't think they should be in a place where people who want to enjoy themselves can not avoid them .

This is a prime example, why buying a hotel franchise, would be beneficial. Best Western as an example, has many historical properties, like this one, throughout Europe. They would help with the design, renovation, brand standards, and even educate the owners, on how to run the property. This is a very complex business, which the owners have no formal training; yet feel it is a simple thing to run: how is this possible?

The squealing about taxidermy in grand homes of eccentric people is becoming tedious. But you have to listen to what the customers tell you. If it doesn't service the business' needs well, remove and continue on. It's not a big thing to fix. Well done to the exhausted couple. It turned out very well indeed. Much better than expected. You have to admire their tenacity.

That awful clock. What a waste of money. They should have spent it on a architect.

At £3k/wedding it’s going to take a long time to make back that £6 million.

the prices now are well over that and go up to 5,000+ pounds, and this does not include an additional fee of 100+ pounds per guest for catering etc. Plus, that doesn't include the cost of bedrooms, should the party stay overnight; the minimum cost of a bedroom is over 150 pounds per night and they require that you book at least 15 of the 20+ rooms if you are overnighting. Weddings can also be held almost every day so theoretically, I think as long as they remain a popular venue, they'll continue to do alright.

I hope they've learnt that hand painted wallpaper doesn’t add value to guests. Lovely in your own home, but a hotel is not your home.

I read the reviews and it appears all the renovations are done, and everybody loves the venue however, the quality of people as staff that interact with the party of many weddings is utterly awful. You really can’t run a business with rude staff especially a big day like a wedding. yes there were people that were completely happy but just as Many that were very disappointed that they had rude staff and other things lacking for that day. BTW these were 2023 reviews.

The hotel, wedding venue is going strong. Husband has passed away but Claire has held on and this hotel receives top scores on online reviews.

Insane undertaking. What a load. so much stress. For what and why? American don’t understand that great things come in small packages. Everything has to be bigger! Chronic consumption syndrome. A handsome yet rather austere building.
