Happy Canada Day/Independence Day! Hope you all found this one interesting. I've been catching up on a few of this years Eisner nominated books to try and find something unique to showcase to you all, and I was really intrigued with this crime noir comic called The Good Asian, so I will be covering that over the next two weeks. Check out the book on Amazon if you are curious (amzn.to/3QUvc2e). Also here is the full list of this years Eisner Nominees (www.comic-con.org/eisner-awards-current-info#2022%20NOMINEES%20WHOLE%20LIST).

The ending was great and very ironic because here in America the motto against foreign occupation by Patrick Henry is "give me liberty or give me death" in good ole American fashion Amber chose death over occupation just as the usa would do. The ending gives me vibes of someone throwing a tantrum when they realize their side is also flawed and punishing everyone just out of spite. "Cut off her nose to spite her face", or however the saying goes. It feels very petty and makes the whole book seem biased against the US, when the book doesn't even provide a lot of info on the US' side [a lot of that is in service to the ethical dilemma plot twist at the end, and it really brings things down] Overall, it all reads as more of a somewhat naïve rebellious fantasy, rather than a complex story of the harsh realities of war, told from the perspective of rebels who border on terrorists
@houseadams48412 жыл бұрын
Bingo…. Couldn’t have said it better myself. Not to mention, the original premise for the war is so beyond a stretch. America is full of fresh water lakes, not to mention The Great Lakes. A book that glorifies killing soldiers. Who very often are taking orders and are just trying to get by. Maybe the writer should make a book about the Canadian government taking away peoples firearms, telling their citizens they don’t have a right to self defense and throwing people in jail for speech. Seems pretty authoritarian.

@@andreworr4307 I'm not saying her becoming a bitter psychopath is unrealistic [although her alone striking such a massive blow does strain credulity a little bit, given how massive strikes in wars, more often than not, tended to come more gradually or due to larger groups -not just a single bomber] What I am saying is that the way the story is presented seems a bit biased, and possibly like the author sees the young woman as a sort of champion for justice, or whatnot. Which, furthermore, doesn't click from a realistic perspective as what she did was objectively bad and entirely self-serving. She's basically a villain, and that's a realistic outcome of her tragic backstory, yes, but seemingly framing that in any sort of good light just doesn't feel right
