@warburjg3 жыл бұрын
I had that type of key controlled electricity in Korea. Usually the front lights still work without it so you don't have to fumble around when you come home late and it's dark. It solves the problem you always have in hotels, they don't need the AC on a motion sensor. It stays on because your key is inserted and you're in the room. While conserves energy while you're out. The first time we saw it we pulled it out to go to bed and sweated the entire time! Haha.
@joceg59633 жыл бұрын
my husband and i have travelled a fair bit, the key in the slot for power is pretty common all over the world, in our experience. we're always surprised when you don't have to do it. could also be that the majority of our travel is in Australia, where it seems to be in every hotel/motel that uses card locks

The "insert key for power" is very common. The power will turn off 1-2 minutes after you pull out your key, so you can grab your things and walk out the door with the light still on (very useful at night). I think it's a lot better than having motion sensor for AC, because you know there's a human in the room when the key is plugged in.

We had the insert card for power in punta cana. I think most of the resorts are like that there. You can honestly use any card in the slot at least we could there. So a piece of paper worked. It turned the air off if it wasn’t inserted and it was hot!!

We use the key card facility in U.K often. There is a delay when you remove they keycard. Up to 15 mins once removed. People leave cards in to keep air on going etc. Only item that doesn’t switch of is the clock, toilet fan and fridge. Some of the new keycards need a magnetic key as well. So adding a normal bit of cardboard in the slot won’t work. The key cards have a very small magnet inside to trigger the switch when inserted.

The room key thing kept out A/C on all night which was so nice compared to the motion sensor

I stayed at a hotel in Bath, UK, that had those lights with the key insert - figured it was a way for the hotel to save on electricity. I'm sure guests accidentally leave the lights on all day while they're out and about. Seems like a reasonable way to mitigate a little wasted electricity.

In the UK most hotels have that slot for your keycard. Usually there will be a 10 minute or so delay between taking it out and the power going off so when you leave your room and take the key, you won’t leave any power on in the room! Then when you come back you put the card back in, and the power will turn back on and you won’t lose the card!! Great idea really Xxxx

The insert card for power thing is newer to the US, but becoming more popular. There’s a timer in it so the power doesn’t got off right away and you have a few minutes. We were there for 11 nights but had luggage for a three week trip. On first walking in we wondered how we would get all our stuff organised but it really wasn’t a problem. The washing machines and driers were easy to use and not that expensive but you need to pay for the detergent as well. We only went to the Universal parks so just used the complimentary buses which were great. We used Uber to get to Walmart. Have a great time.
