I have heard a story about the gliders the U.S. Army bought during the war. When they let the contracts for the gliders they started to look for a company to build them, the problem being that anyone with experience building aircraft was ALREADY doing so, so there was capability left! The Army Air Cops thought for a while realized that did no NEED an aircraft manufacturer and that there for specific skills that they needed to mkae the gliders; like welding steel tubing, making a light structure, wood forming, etc. . They then hunted to find manufacturers with space to fulfill those capabilities, two of the first they found were CASKET MAKER AND A COMPANY MAKING REFRIGERATORS!!! (neither of these things is particularity well know for its flight ability!)

My grandfather and great uncle bought two of those Waco gliders after the war as surplus. The aircraft came in three large crates each. They parted the aircraft out and disassemble the oak crates to build their homes in Nazareth PA. I have pictures of my grandfather pulling the gliders out of the crates. And yes, I’d love to see a supersized version.

Glad to hear the free plans aren't going away. I'm in Canada and as much as I desire to buy kits, the shipping, taxes and duty to get them here are stupid. Three years into the hobby, the planes I fly most are hand-cut, FT planes running on FT power packs. In terms of the plans, I had an idea while flying the other day. Add a donate button. Or several at different rates. If I donated 5 bucks for every plan I've downloaded, it would be 100 bucks or so I'd be glad to donate. Rather give it to you than a shipping/brokerage company or my government as taxes. While I appreciate the free plans, time is money and your team spends a ton of time on these models. A donate button would make it easy for us to give back. Worth considering. You've paved the way for me to successfully fly large, fast, expensive planes. Would have been a longer, more painful process without your help. Hard to put a price on that but with a donate button, I could try...

Looks like you've got a torque issue with your popup power system. Being that the motor is directly over the center of pressure and offset from the body there's not enough tailplane to counteract the torque and the plane is rotating around the wings. Moving the motor forward or back even a few inches should reduce the effect but I think this is what Josh is talking about at 11:24

Love these new planes. I am fortunate to live just over the hill from where the Whiskey 7 C47 lives currently. Recently they started back to giving aerial tours in it and I have seen it flying several times these last few weeks. I cant wait for the new episode where you do some old school FT magic with some history, some building and some flying. A lot of us REALLY miss that style video over the screamy anime gurl new hotness. I also came across a nice piece of aviation history and posted a suggestion for a new build with some history NOT in the super popular air craft types for those wanting some diversity. Could be interesting to see what you can do with that after this next video maybe.

Hey flite test, just gotta say how happy my 8 year old son and I are to have found your channel. We are going to start learning to fly soon. We had a couple plane ideas for you to try. XF5U/V-173- shouldn’t be hard, but a really neat plane from just before the jet age Piaggio P.7- this is a challenge, flying boat that sat very low in the water, but utilized hydrofoils to help lift the body out of the water, then the pilot works a clutch system to move power from its water propeller to the air propeller. Would be really cool to see how well it would have flown as well as take off and land. Grumman J2F duck, a neat float biplane uses for recon and search and rescue. Can’t wait to build some planes.

For the fly by snatch launch ... You’ll need length of surgical tubing in the line used to pick up the glider. That will absorb the shock so the glider will smoothly accelerate. The right length of surgical tubing will smoothly recoil so the glider does not get whipped or catapulted off the line. Finding the right length of surgical tubing will be the trick.

Guys, you overlooked a version of the Waco CG-4A called the PG-1, PG-2 and the GP-3. All of those are twin powered versions of the CG-4A. I am planning on building the PG-2 because it’s directly based on the CG-4, which I like the lines the best and the motors are mounted on the wings, not the struts. The PG-3 has a new nose that made it more streamlined and raising the cruise speed from 100 mph to 117. I hope to use your twin power pack “C” on a 8’ version to get scales performance. Also, if you make is as a monster kit, I would order one of those.

1:45 might be a lot easier to have a wooden rod or roof lath to divide the pressure for glueing the wing. 2 or 4 hands are the same like single fingers just small spot that will glue well while the rest will have a thicker glue line. And that will change the line of the wing, the profile will be different depending on the pressure spots. A lath makes it also easier if you work alone. I wondered why I had never seen such lath in use to divide the pressure a lot more better and similiar.

Also a lot of versatility for carrying or dropping cargo, paratroopers, etc. I love flying large gliders with telemetry glider and Vario installed. Brian
