"We Swam" from my forthcoming album "Standard Diary"
Welcome to Standard Diary, a personal musical project ten years in the making.
The lyrics, vocals and initial musical sketches were recorded in 2013 at Shampoo Horn. I tinkered with it over the years hence, and worked with Josh Every of Silver City Studios (and StoryRaps musical producer) to produce an album around those initial sketches in 2018-2019. We worked with improvisational musicians Barry Paul Clark and Devin Drobka to fill out the sound with drums, bass, and synths, to create a cross-genre sound that is unique from anything I've ever made before. Josh also added pianos and vocal backups and tied everything up in a bow. We mastered it with Justin Perkins at Mystery Room Mastering.
The plan was to release it in 2020, and that summer I filmed this music video with Director Johnathon Olsen and Director of Photography Derek Schmitt. We filmed it on my partner Sara Daleiden's Aunt and Uncle's land, where we had access to the Wisconsin River, a chainsaw, and their dog Bucky. I wore the suit I bought for Kipp's wedding and will now wear at Paul's wedding. We finished this around the time that StoryRaps came out and felt the vibe wasn't right for my KZbin Channel at the time, so the video has awaited release since then.
As some of you know, my channel has had to take a backseat while I put all of my creative energy into the Washington Park Media Center and my production company, TankThink. Thanks to everyone who has stuck around and been patient while I reconfigured. As I am now beginning to plan my return to regular KZbin uploading I wanted to start by releasing this, ten years after I started it. It is not a children's record, but it is about swimming, and it has a dog, which I think anyone can enjoy. I also feel it has a tinge of nostalgia for youth that makes it feel appropriate for my audience here, who has all grown a few years older since we first met in 2020- during the pandemic or as I refer to it as "the Seuss days". I've missed you all and hope you enjoy this offering as I enter a new phase with this channel.
