You cannot believe? They've done this the last 2 E3s. Nintendo has been light on E3 since 2013, what with having Directs throughout the year. Many Directs, including the ones for E3, tend to focus on a single game.

What is absolutely baffling to me is that this huge smash segment isn't even a "deep cut". They could have made an announcement that yes, every character is back. Instead we have 60+ introductions. Then they go into a segment that covers minor changes about things even most hardcore smashers would hardly care about. The few things that are significant from this e3 smash are big: all characters back, new mechanics/returned mechanics, and a meme comes to life. While these changes might be important to a lot of people, Nintendo could have easily covered them in a fraction of the time they did it in with a lot more impact. It just makes it even more baffling to have so much fluff in an e3 presentation. Considering we are still half a year away from its release, most of this stuff should have been in a direct at a later date. Just spitballing, but you could have excited people with maybe 1 or 2 of the 3 major announcements and teased a full smash direct for the future. Then the direct could have all that fluff and the rest of the major news at the end. A baffling presentation from pretty much every perspective. I don't expect much more news about smash until right before release at this point.

I agree with their summary at the end -- that this suggests they just didn't really have anything else to show. Like, another 5 second teaser of Metroid won't really fly for the 2nd year in a row, so this suggests the game isn't anywhere near a playable state. Which is fine, game dev takes a crazy long time, but it definitely gives the sense that they don't really have any major 1st party stuff lined up for the immediate post-Smash future.

Clay3613 People weren't even sure if it was just a port with Inkling and BOTW Link. This is a fully new game, with a bunch of major and minor tweaks, additional new characters we didn't know about, and far more returning characters/levels/etc. than we had any idea of. When did we "know this was coming"?

gretz lawrence "a few changes". I don't think you realize how drastic AND how numerous these changes are, on top of adding many completely new things. Updated ports typically have a few minor behind the scenes tweaks and maybe a couple new things. This is a major overhaul of many mechanics, the largest roster of any Smash game, and many significant mechanical changes that will drastically change how people play. The change to how Final Smashes work alone is significant, and that's just a single bullet point on the list.

are you really this blind ? the game is clearly the Wii U Smash Bros that has been updated... there is a huge difference between Street Fighter 1 & Street Fighter 5.... just like there was more of a difference between Brawl & Smash Bros Wii U..... again this is clearly the Wii U game that has been modified.. it's running the same game engine...

We've already been over how this is not a reissue (What with having nearly a dozen new characters, levels, and major, fundamental mechanical changes which you cannot deny), but how do you justify the 3DS? While hardcore fans buy everything, they were for different audiences. You may have forgot, since it seems you aren't the best at paying attention, but a lot more people had 3DSs than WiiUs, so there were more than a few people with 3DSs but no WiiU. Those two versions also had different content, like different levels and modes. Do your research before talking shit and looking like a moron.

All Jeff cares about is content for giant bomb. Nintendo showed nothing that he can use as content. You cant talk much about Smash. He isn't interested in anime rpg games like Fire Emblem or Xenoblade. So what was there? Nothing. Where as Sony showed a load of cinematic bullshit that is not that great to play but is ideal content for GB.

I'm struggling to find how you came into that conclusion. Their content is very little of cinematic games, let alone not focusing on gameplay centred games - much more of indie stuff, smaller games and Mario Maker type of stuff every week on Casual Friday etc. I'm happy you liked the conference, but objectively this was easily the bottom tier conference of this E3. They clearly had nothing to show. Why they spent slightly over 50% of the whole conference on one game on introducing every small change done to a character.

jeff completely favors well done simplistic games. he absolutely does not get a hard on for something cinematic just cause he thinks he can get content out of it. idk i've listen to jeff for yearrrrrs and never got the vibe he only pushed things he thought would look good on his site. the games he praises usually do not line up with what you said about him.

Do you mean "content" as specifically for this e3 panel to talk over? Nintendo had a poor showing regardless. People who don't have a lot of time to dedicate and a lot of games to cover are of course going to bounce off a bunch of large rpgs if they don't stand out over other games. He said the other day that DragonQuest actually looked awesome and he was curious about it too. Anyways, they showed 10-15 minutes of games mostly announced already and then 35 minutes of Smash Bros. For people who don't care about Smash Bros, there wasn't a ton to get excited about.

I am not interested in Smash Brothers. But this whole conference was basically that. There was nothing mind-blowing here.
