@@CrosstalkSolutions Chris, thanks for taking the time to respond. I didn’t know that TikTok videos were longer, as I don’t use it. I think that Facebook and Instagram have similar issues with the length of portrait videos. It’s odd that KZbin and other major platforms don’t allow the uploading of portrait orientation videos that are longer and default to landscape video. KZbin should allow you to opt for video either orientation when uploading as a regular video imho. They’re missing out on content as a result. It’s not as if the files are any different or larger because they’re turned 90 degrees.

The folks talking about the suction cups breaking glass are full of nonsense. How do they think glass gets handled on the production line? They use suction cups to install the glass in the vehicle and in the manufacturing plant that makes the glass. Last time I had a windshield replaced, the guy used hand-pumped suction cups to help him handle the glass and put it into position.

This is a good point.
@bigtundra52642 ай бұрын
they are probably talking about wind pushing on the starlink while mounted on the outside of the sunroof. good suction cups will have such a grip that in a theoretical scenario the force of the wind driving down the road could be enough to rip the starlink off together with the glass. Only in a theoretical scenario of course.
@NPzed2 ай бұрын
Neat! Love the EMF meter. Its always interesting data points. I think the bigger concern about mounting that unit on your sunroof inside is what could happen in the event of an auto accident. That appears to be a hefty metal object at head level. If that dislodeges during an accident that could be a KO.

I literally threw my Mini on the dashboard during a trip from Anchorage, AK to Fairbanks, AK and had connectivity the entire time. That is essentially traveling north. On the return trip (I went via Glenallen, AK) I had some service dropouts. My guess that is because the vehicle shielded some of the signal and I was going opposite of the satellites. The app show to point the dish north even here. All in all, it’s pretty impressive to have multi-Mbps connectivity in the middle of no where AND be completely that low power and portable.

It is interesting to note that some window tints may have a metallic content to them. We had this issue with rear windows in certain vehicles where the glass mount antenna would not work because of that fact. Antenna Specialists developed a system where one could test the glass with a capacitance meter and a "probe" which was basically the internal coupling box of their on glass antenna. Moving on to the Starlink system, I do not know at what frequencies these system operate on but I do know that anything above 850 MHz will be affected by metallic tints in window glass. Another factor one must consider is the operating frequencies and power outputs at these frequencies. There are some FCC guidelines as to antenna placement vs power output and frequencies to protect the individuals from excessive RF radiation. Good rule of thumb, the farther away you place the antenna from a human, the better.

Glad to see starlink mini works in motion. The download speed is outstanding but upload is little disappointing me. I'm curious how video calls are working during motion usage.
@felaxchow2073 күн бұрын
Short answer is yes with caveats. Keep in mind that it requires a line of sight to the sky (LoS) with a little to no obstructions. With the current constellation, it does a fairly good job of working around it. The Roam plan is best effort service and when you run into a congested cell, your service may degrade a bit. In my use case, I was able to carry on a Zoom video conference call via my iPhone at roughly 720p through the Starlink mini sitting on the dashboard of my car traveling on a State Road at 65 MPH from Sebring to Port Saint Lucie Florida for over 2.5 hours. There were some dropouts along the way, but it was able to recover without too much of an issue. The other caveat is that if you’re hypersensitive to high audio frequencies, I would recommend to mount the dish on the outside of your vehicle or the high frequency switching buzzing sounds it makes will drive you crazy. Knowing the area that I was traveling through is normally a 1 bar to SoS mode cell service, I was willing to put up with it.

@Merializer2 ай бұрын
I'm pretty sure the meter you used doesn't measure RF though... Most likely it measures electric fields (V/m) and magnetic fields (µT). Tried and tested many. Also, last time I checked the safety limits for RF were more like 61 V/m for at home and 137 V/m for at work. For electric fields (what you measured) the limits are 5000 V/m for at home and for at work at least double that. You mixed up RF and electric fields because what they sell often doesn't match what they claim it does. A Starlink mini uses Wi-Fi which you can't measure with that device, but since this product also uses Ku and Ka band, according to ChatGTP, it will communicate between that device and satelites between 12 - 40GHz. It is not cheap to get a meter that measures the latter frequency range. This is often sold separately and won't measure common RF like Wi-Fi.
@doojin-bek2 ай бұрын
Electric field should be less than 10V/m for long-term exposure, and it should be less than 2V/m during sleep. 61V/m is actually quite high. I think high frequencies between 12 ~ 40Ghz will be largely blocked by car steel. Even glass will block most of high frequency radiation. Thus, if you can affix starlink on top of steel roof and somehow cleanly route an ethernet cable to a computer inside your car, then you will minimize EMF exposure.. I also recommend some sort of grounding for eliminating electric field from starlink. But, I don't know how one can ground starlink to the actual ground in a moving car.
@Merializer2 ай бұрын
@@doojin-bek You seem to confuse electric field limits with RF limits as well. The limits you talk about are better electric field limits yes, alternative limits people can use but non-official unfortunately.

@@Merializer How is RF EMF measured in V/m? Everyone seems to use different units than V/m for RF.
@Merializer2 ай бұрын
@@doojin-bek Many meters for RF are using units like µW/m² or mW/m² for example, this is true, but V/m is also used sometimes, see: Acousticom, Acoustimeter2 for example, but also the Cornet ED88T can be set to measure using V/m unit for example. Official limits for RF are also available in the V/m unit. You could ask ChatGTP (A.I.) for more info on this if you wanna learn more.

And will seriously hurt anyone that it hits. That's a lot of mass to be flying around. My mom got rear ended by a car while driving a full size van when she was stopped waiting on traffic. The garage door opener that was clipped to the sun visor went flying. Hit her in the head, leaving a laceration and a serious headache.
