And the levadas, if you're not jumping over them you are walking/ riding alongside or under them from top to bottom of this island. Day 2 is basically my trip to Madeira 2023 march. Day 3 the top part I think was the trail that was like 4.1 km long and more than 800 meters decent, steepest thing I ever rode… Madeira Ice is real, I tellz ya… PS! Nice to see Scotty made it into video as well… 😂

That was some really awesome dirt in those last two stages. Trails looked super fun. I bet that hike a bike was rough. I have a race coming up next month with some hike a bike also. Needless to say, I'm not looking forward to it. It'll be my first for that so I've been running steps for about a month now. Good racing you two. Keep rollin. 👍👊

Good thinking! The other thing you may want to consider (if you haven't already) is more flexible shoes. If this is an enduro race enduro shoes work well, but if it's a XC race, you may want to consider either enduro shoes (if there's a LOT of hiking) or a mid-stiffness XC shoe like the Shimano XC-5.

@@sydandmacky Thanks for the advice. I'm currently using 510's with flats. The other option is vans off the wall old school shoes. The race is 34 miles long and the hike a bike is about 2 miles which are long distances for me. My normal races are usually 7-9 mile "sprint" races.

Well, that was exciting! Can't imagine being in a tunnel for 18 minutes after hike a biking for several hours. We were both wearing the Shimano ME7 which is the previous model enduro shoe that has a much more flexible sole than a gravel or XC shoe and our feet were surprisingly fine.

I think I have watched all you race videos. In the first half of the video, the trail seemed to be on the knarlier end of the spectrum. Did you feel somewhat under biked for the conditions? Looking at it makes me think a 130 / 140 travel setup might have been nicer . I imagine you are required to have one step for the full event. Thoughts?

I love your channel and have been a fan since it was just the Mickie Franklin channel. KZbin keeps discriminating against you. I can watch more than a dozen channels and have no issues. But less than 60 seconds of your channel has serious lag and stoppages. I have tried to watch this one video more than six times and cannot as it stops and "buffers", in 2023 seriously this is a choice. F@@k KZbin discriminating against positive content. You are great people, and this should not happen.
